How to adjust your scope for different ranges

help me is this right say 100 yards 1/4 ...................1 MOA is 4 inches so 4 inches on my elevation is 60 clicks is that right

@treverlid87 1 MOA is 1.047" at 100 yards. For the sake of easy math it is 1". so, at 200 yards, its 2', 3" at 300, etc. If you have 1/4 MOA per click turrets, 4 MOA dialed into your scope would = 16 clicks. Or, about 4 inches at 100 yards, 8 at 200, so on.

how do you take shots beyond a scope's max elevation using mil dot holdover? Say 1300 yd shot. You turn your scope for 1000 and you still need holdover for 300. How is that computed?  Thank you

I got my .270 bore-sighted out to 100 yards with it's standard scope,but when I got a new sight I manually sighted it in.Just dead-center the Cross-hair with the center of the target,fire,and use the elevation and windage adjustments on the scope until your lined up with the shot placement/point of impact and then take a shot to the center.Should be bang on.

I really need to get my 30-06 out to a range and sight it in properly.. The only thing I haven't really done is long range shooting. Mainly pistol and skeet shooting.

More accurate than your scope adjustment, if you have the BC and muzzle velocity. Milsurp, you may have to guess the BC.
