ok look, i m from india and we are not that intelligent or anything, and our education system is bullshit, its a manufacturing industry, not a school or college, and just a few days ago indian 15 year olds ranked 2nd last in the math, science and reading skills, compared to entire world, so that means they r really fuckin dumb as well, so yeah, fuck this stereotypes, we are a billion population and a bunch of the top cream gets selected in these colleges means nothing to me.
I am an indian....i topped my high school in computer science....guess wer i am now.....the us of a!!.....this is the land of freedom....the indian education system is designed to breed slaves not masters!!
What Bob Compton does is to compare top 0.5% Indians & Chinese (& they are in billions) against average or below average American kids. Down deep Indian educationalist would like to bring their standard up to SAT, but they know it is not possible in foreseeable future. India’s high school dropout rate is around 68%. 12% to 20% have access to higher education. India does have remarkable progress in several area, but all is eaten up by population & slums are the one creating population problem.
@Pmd9013 I agree with you in that India and China have a lot farther to go. However, you are ignoring the numbers -- even at their dismal rates of graduation, they are still churning out enormous numbers of intelligent and well-educated students. At the end of the day, it will come down to sheer numbers.
Parents in charge of America are Federal Reserve System criminals. The American government is not accountable to its people, and is not responsive to public opinion.
It is not in their psychopathic interest for the bulk of American children to be educated properly, only their own murderers-to-be. Elites don’t need technical skills, they only need to know how to murder people, plunder & enslave them.
Indian students must be encouraged to have a greater exposure to life generally including sudies, work experience, sports, etc. Just studying the books to achieve good grades is not everything; mental agitility and thinking process are more important!
Our corporations have betrayed us. They higher professional mythmakers like Bob Compton to mislead and demoralize us. And they will ultimately force our country into third world status if they are not required to stop engaging in labor arbitrage.
They feed you this crap and create these myths based on half truths in order to avoid criticism for what they are really doing. It is not our higher education system that is hurting the economic prospects of out graduates (our universities are the best in the world) it is the a-holes who offshore the jobs to save money. You end up with Americans paying tens of thousands for engineering and technology degrees at universities and being forced to flip burgers to pay off their loans.
@sebwingfield There is no incentive for an American man to become or remain a scientist. Years and years of study & debt, to be relegated to a bilge assignment. It is a massive discrimination to pay off a bachelors of science degree by sweeping, scrubbing & brainless toil. This while all the advertising supportees run off with tens of millions per year, with no education to speak of. It’s stupid society.
Do not believe them when they say they must destroy the economic opportunities of their fellow US citizens and give them to foreigners because that's where the "talent is." There is already a surplus of talent for those jobs here in the US. The only reason they offshore, and they import labor, is because it saves them money (they can pay less benefits, there are tax advantages, lower salaries - look at the damn numbers and open your eyes).
@sebwingfield It isn't about "saving money." There is no money. Federal Reserve System just prints up fraud-dollars and hands it out to thier Debt Syndicate criminal friends. The reason science & engineering suck in America, is because of a pure discriminatory hatred of us by the War Mongering mass murdering felon elite.
This is total bullshit. The relevant question is not whether Indian high schools are churning out more competant math science students than US high schools. The relevant question is whether the supply of graduates from US universities falls short of the demand. The answer is NO! The supply of qualified applicants already exceeds demand here without changing our system at all.
EDUCATION = FAIL! We skip the basics (health, First Aid, Truth, reading, maths) but start immediately on Physics, Science etc. When you look @ what LIFE expects from us, school/education system doesn't teach us that. so we fail @ LIFE! but when you look at what CORPORATIONS expect from us. we succeed. U know what is most important. Also: education is being edited. example: Why do we have Economy lessons yet no one understand how the Monetary system works?!!? I am studying this, its Shocking!!!!
I am an Indian, now a Canadian resident.High school in India KILLS....it is tough tough tough...the last three years when you prepare for all sorts of competitive exams plus ur curriculum.
India excels in Math and Science...but you have to come to North America if you want to learn something about lingusitics,or medieval Europe ...the University courses here have an amazing variety!
There is also a problem with the culture in the US in terms of education. In the south for example people are often against intellectuals. Intelligence is seen as a negative. In this culture teachers have little if any power to enforce rules in their class, discipline students, demand respect, etc. The result is disrespectful students that end up stupid in America. In other countries this behavior = a good thrashing.
i am Indian but i would say the university studies and flexibility provided in US is too good then India. But at school level India is more ahead than US.
America is more based on entertainment and we already have more things that other countries wish they had, thats why we dont take education as seriously. If we where to have stricter parents and less objects such as tvs, video games, and extra activities in school i think we would have less distractions. But, judging from the countries state now i think we will have a long way to go before we become even half as smart as indians or japanese kids.
@tennismaster3211 Are you kidding me!! Kids have no homework in elementry school. Algebra is considered advanced course in 8th grade. Have you ever seen a Indian or a Chinese kid get home and turn on their xbox first?
@tangerinegirl59 yeah, but you gotta admit, Asian parents are strict, and strict parents make more succcessful kids. Like in my algebra class, some american kid got a c, he got so happy he hang that on his refrigerator door.
It's true that asian parents are generally more strict, but I'm white and my mom would beat my ass if I got a C!! She acts all disappointed at my Bs!!
Not necessarily, doesn't it really depend on the perspective of the viewer?
If it is, Carmel is the wrong school to be "dissing" because it is one of the best schools in Indiana, with 97% of students going to a four year college after graduation.

Really, India and China are powerful and no doubt catching up to the US, but face it, we are still a world power and have very high standards.
For those of you who question what is taking shape with India and China emerging as global powers in IT and science, please read The World is Flat and do some checking before you demonstrate your ignorance. The amount of IT openings that go unfilled due to the limit of H1B visas is staggering, that is the primary reason IT is being sent off-shore. By the way, the salary structure in India for IT professionals is not as far behind the US as you may think, and is closing rapidly.
The comment about Bill Gates not being able to find qualified Engineers in the US is nonsense. I used to work in IT recruiting and I know lots of unemployed Engineers & Programmers. The reason Bill Gates & other US corporations are taking those jobs overseas is purely money & greed. Lower employee expenses means higher profit and higher stock price and thus more stock options for the senior managment.
I agree that we have plenty of highly-qualified engineers and programmers in the US who Microsoft can hire. It's all about bottom-line and hires in India are willing to work for a lot less due to economies of scale.
Oh yeah dear, have you been watching too much of Lou Dobbs? I run an IT firm , can you send me the resumes of those several unemployed engineers & programmers so I can save on my costs to process the visa petitions of foreigners ? Can they write a Hello program?

A more rounded education is the only way to develop "big picture" thinkers. To achieve this, education needs to become more meaningful and engaging - more tech....
College education in India falls behind in providing the training required for research, even in IITs. Such is not the case in the US. The US has much better researchers and a much larger research output than India. I am an IIT student and am experiencing this first hand.
What you are saying is true, but can be easily argued. USA has better infrastructure which understandably India does not have, thus students have a better "opportunity" to get trained properly. BUT, it does not mean that infrastructure alone will produce excellent graduates. Student need to have a solid grasp of mathematics to avail that training to the fullest.
This documentary is talking about the high school performance of students in India, China and USA and not college level.
Teslapower220 is correct that the US has the market cornered on research positions and output. However, what they fail to realize is that these very positions are not being filled by Americans. They are being filled by foreigners. Foreigners who then compete with undereducated Americans.
