  • i fell asleep lying on my trampoline in the summer once with my ipod. I woke up to this song, the sun felt warm on my skin and everything was perfect.

  • "In their cocaine fuelled electronic cabarets I'll be the man at the bar drinking overpriced whiskey from a bar maid who's to good to catch my eye" great line

  • I have never heard this song before today. This afternoon as the sun went low and the full moon took it's place i found these words and music by accident.... and I don't think I'll ever be the same. I can;t even explain it as of yet. I just know I broke down and sobbed. I wanted my family and friends near to sit by a fire and tell stories and drink beer until we fall to sleep... I wanted to listen and try harder to be a better person... knowing as of this point it will never be enough.

  • Thumbs up for kopistop

  • @streytv THEKO PIS TOP

  • I am never tired of hearing this song...calms me, connects me to memories, causes me to consider social ties and the consequences of my own ambition. 4 years of listening, still the top of my iPod Most Listened Playlist, and an artist I have shared and will continue to share with friends...usually by way of introducing this song first. Thank you James Yorkston. Pure poetry.

  • is a connection with my soul :)

  • i wish he did more with just speaking...

  • I remember hearing this in and ad for strongbow on tv, I went through hell finding it, but it was worth it, that was over a year ago and to this day its still in my head and i doubt it will ever leave

  • This song is one of many highlights of The Year Of The Leopard - I had no idea there was a video for it! The moving pictures are absolutely perfect.

I saw James Yorkston live a bit ago, if you like his music you should definitely try to get tickets sometime. It was an incredible gig, just Mr Yorkston alone on stage for two and a bit hours of pure perfection.

  • Absolutely wonderful.

  • Reminds me of The Postal Service meets A Space Boy's Dream by Belle & Sebastian.

  • wow

  • cool work !!! 5 stars

  • this is incredible, i love the contrast between the lyrics and the landscape of the song.

i only found this out about 10 minutes ago, and i think it's probably the greatest thing that's happened to me over the past 6 months.

  • just pure gorgeous. this is what summer sounds like. xxx

  • Just love this tune and the James Yorkson/reporter band amalgum is perfect.

  • Magnificent! I was a bit late on the scene, but heard this track on the radio and now I'm seeing him live tomorrow!! :-)

  • Wow.

But more like a poem than a song. Which is why i liked it.

  • Sorry they are in inverse order.

  • For those who could not hear the lyrics, here they are:

I watch the park quieten from the hotel window, I hear you softly sleep amongst the cars and saluting songbirds,

For a city whose size had scared me for years right now it's a feeble evening row, not un-similar to a beach evening ending

On the table to my left there's a magazine with a picture of dead money, making a mockery of what I'd call art

  • But what would I know about the scene in the city that has swallowed up friends, lovers and family,

Just give me a village the size of a teacup

You're happier here spread out with your eyes closed,

I feel I should order a drink in celebration to welcome the summer, whose first day is ending

Should you wake you'd catch me of course and ask me the wisdom of drinking once more

I cast me mind back to yesterdays wedding where we got drunk and fell over

  • I did my best to be polite to a family I'd never met, but on numerous occasions, I guess, I could have tried harder

Of course by the end of the night I was a best friend with everyone and every ones wife but right now I couldn't remember their names no matter how hard I try

  • As the sun glares through the hotel window I wonder of our future and where it will lead to,

I wonder if you'll be laying there 10 years 20 years 30 years down the line

I'll still be staring out at the street confused about love and life,

It'll be interesting to see if anyone every bought those songs of mine if anyone heard those words that I never got quite right,

  • I think I can be honest in presuming the world is not exactly going to be leaping out its bed to make me rich using my songs in adverts selling oranges or lemons,

Who knows I may end up owning the whole street, or more likely sleeping under tree in the park opposite

Would the runners keep me awake or would I keep them asleep

I'd hope I have the sense to move back home, as lovely as today is, I'd imagine the winter would be rather cold

  • I'd been told for years that the devil had the best tunes and that the devil lived down here whereas us country folk weren't worth the salt from the road

Ex pat magazine editors who choose to loose their temper on the easily persuaded northern town dwellers

And sure enough 99 percent of the people I meet have scant regard for entertaining me, it seems I'm too old too slow too quiet and just wrong

    And I'm glad.

  • In their cocaine fuelled electronic cabarets I'll be the man at the bar drinking overpriced whiskey from a bar maid who's to good to catch my eye

She only works here two nights a week, the rest of the time she's a singer in a rock and roll band

I bet she'd change her tune if I told her my album had peaked at number 172 and that I also had friends who worked in bars and that didn't define who they are

Though it certainly helps their capacity to drink.

  • But I've strayed off the subject

Now I'll be leaning over and waking you up, and you'll squint at me through the cracks between your eyelids, woozy with cider

As if you're asking exactly where we are and exactly what I wanted.

And I'll be happy because we won't be taking anything too seriously.

  • very nice song indeed!! also check out

boards of canada - melissa juice

  • very interesting, lovely and artistic i really enjoy this!

  • absolutely beautiful.

  • Yah, it's not so easy to understand what he is saying, but i like the tune...

  • i can only hear the odd word - ive got the dubstep version and wanted vocal clarity, this has not helped. ie "the devil wrote the best tunes, the devil bluueri hgla bblure immasdoeqwi"

  • "the devil lived down here" or something.. after that I don't understand what he's saying...

  • I think it's good...

  • This is getting really old!

  • this is really good

  • and he's kind of got the laidback easy swing of a young steven adams

  • sexy voice indeed. reminds me of rab logie.

  • Very cool video, and very moving.

  • sexy voice

  • this song is amazing and the video is even amazinger, just listen to it a few times, its great the things you pick up, simple but deep at the same time. makes you think
