Here's what I just don't understand about this match; Why did we have to have a time limit draw here? Is this ROH's way of keeping the belt on Aries whilst keeping Tyler Black elevated in the bridesmaid position as opposed to being in the midcard with fellow bridesmaid Roderick Strong? Why has ROH given me any reason to follow this feud after that ending? If they do decide to put the belt on Tyler, how on Earth are they going to make him look more of a threat than they did tonight?
there's many differenty dynamics to that time limit draw; primarily Joe was not a chickenshit heel champ, Aries is. As so, he was able to make Tyler Black look like a World Champ in the context of that match. However, if Tyler did all of that in a title match that he couldn't win, why should I think that it'll be any different at
The "chickenshit"heel dynamic has been around for ages, and in many cases has helped out matches. Again, could you argue that Aries' antics may have dragged this match? Sure. But to argue that it completely hurt the match to the point that it wasn't a good match? I don't see how that argument could be made, because the match still accomplished its goal of telling a proper story, something Gabe tends to over look in his booking.
I have no issue with Aries doing the chcikenshit heel business; in fact, I was really starting to get into it after he kept trying to get DQed at the end. My point is, Tyler Black will never look this good in a title match again, so why on earth would they not give him the here? Any match from here on out he will never look this good, so why should I as a viewer pay money to see another Tyler Black shot at the title? ROH has made me believe Tyler will never win the big one with this match
How would that even be possible? Of course Tyler could look as good, if not better, the next time around because the outcome will have to be he wins the title in a big and fashionable way. Tyler couldn't finish off Aries in his usual ways, and even failed at obtaining the victory emulating Danielson, one of Aries' greatest nemesis in ROH, surely he'll have to dig deeper, learn some new tricks - ala Nigel changing from a European grappler to a hard hitting striker.
the way they would have to book Tyler Black from here on out is of a guy who slowly works his way up the Pick 6, since Claudio and Hero won't be doing singles matches anytime soon. He has the lingering memory of being oh so close to the belt yet again. He gets past Aries to get to Kevin Steen (hypothetical) for the belt at GBH VIII and then wins it. However, what should make me believe that Tyler is the guy if ROH nevers pull the trigger (they've had a year). I can only take so many "this time"s
Again, how many times has CM Punk brushed up against the title? How about Aries and Danielson during their bids to become the first ever two time ROH World Champion? What of Homicide? How about Colt Cabana always being nothing more than a bridesmaid?
You make it seem like ROH hasn't got this history of pulling this "this time - okay, it wasn't, but maybe next time" mentality. Can it be frustrating? Sure, but Tyler is still young in his career unlike some of the others listed.
Did Punk not walk out of his match with Joe looking like he's ready for the title as well? That he came out looking like a viable World champion of the company?
We eventually bought into Punk as a champion despite coming up short against the World champion on three different occasions, why wouldn't the same apply to Black? What's different here? The challenger came up short against the champion in big fashion, and looks more dominant than the champ. Where's the difference?
CM Punk had a ton of momentum because he would go out and deliver whenever he had the oppurtunity to. A guy like that who comes to my mind in 2009 is Davey Richards. Now, does Tyler Black have the momentum that Davey Richards had all this year? The gripe with Tyler is not Tyler himself, but the way he's booked. Indy fans are not huge on the "shoved down our throats to be the guy" push. I liken his reaction to Lince Dorado's reaction when CHIKARA in 2007-2008. It's irrational, but its there.
Davey was booked as a Tag Team Champion - how on earth could Tyler compete with that kind of momentum? Tyler doesn't have the options like Nigel did to win a secondary title, because there's no longer a secondary title.
As for "shoved down our throats" that would be Erick Stevens, not Tyler Black. Black was pushed BECAUSE of the fans rallying behind him all those times he encountered Nigel, and came so close to dethroning him. That wasn't booking saying "this is our guy, love him or else."
First half of GBH I was in the General Idiots section - it truly lives up to that reputation - and the second half I snuck up to the balcony.
And sorry, I don't remember you actually. I barely get a chance to meet anyone at the shows either because no one recognizes me or says a word to me that I assume no one recognizes me.
well fucking said i am completely agreeing with u on this match the crowd shat on this for no reason towars the end it seemed like a little dragged out
