Acer Aspire Timeline First Look (NCIX Tech Tips #45)

The timeline I'm getting is the 4810T which seems to be the same as this except there IS a DVD drive. It was advertised for 750 euro but is on sale for just 400 Euro. For a notebook this powerful for a cheap price like that I don't think I'll find anything better, any ideas??

i just got the big brother today the 5810t and the battery life is not even close to 8 hours,it last me 4:30 hours with light using,but i like it so much

what if you want to install software from a disc how do you do it without buying a optical dive? someone plz help!!

If you have another computer home you can share the CD/DVD drive on your network by right clicking and goinh into proporties on your drive in My Computer. The go into Network in you laptop and find the location of the shared drive. You can also map it so it actualy shows as a drive in Computer.

I've been using my 4810T for about 2 months now and love it ! Very quiet, runs Youtube videos with ease and performs all tasks easily.

How do you format the OS if it has no optical drive? Also is the singlecore version quick enough for things like (MS Office/Firefox/Youtube...) or will things like streaming videos be choppy?

well netbooks arent powerhouse servers u know. so obviously if ur gonna like watch 25-30 utube vids at once its obviously gonna be on 100% load,choppy and heating up other than that this is the ideal thing for portable people that travel all the time and for ppl that laze on the sofa to play games and stuff. u can format anything without a disk drive or even an os for that matter just get an external(usb mostly) drive(if it duznt support u just have to configure it in the bios)

perfect for office, enough for 720P youtube video streaming.

This is exactly what I've been looking for. A light and quiet netbook with lots of battery time and an HDMI port. Would be a great accessory to bring to lectures.

Believe me, it is not quiet !

Sometimes the fan gets very noisy to cool down the system.

But indeed, it is light !

I found it to be very quiet. I didn't use it on a soft surface or anything though....

I also didn't do anything TOO CPU intensive, so that may be a factor as well. If you're encoding video on it or something, then it's obviously going to get a little louder.

I have this, except it is the dual core SU9400 version. It is great because it uses the same amount of power as the Pentium SU2700 in this (10W), yet has more power since it is a dual core.

So the only thing that makes this NOT a netbook is the NOT Atom processor? everything else is pretty much the same.

BTW, how's multimedia performance like sound editing etc on this? You didn't talk about sound card capabilities or video.

I recently bought the 14". I can definitely say it's worth the (low) price. The computer is extremely robust in compare to others in its category, also its energy consumption is very low, and while running Photoshop, firefox, a movie and download it heald up to 5 hours of battery.

It's a mean piece!
