@psperanza in the book Wiseguys, Jimmy Burke was known to have a love of ketchup. He put it on everything. De Niro was channeling the guy in this scene
My favorite part of the whole movie is at 1:40 when DeNiro says his "delicious" thing. It's so earnest and he seems completely oblivious to anything they just did or what they have to do after they leave. He is just REALLY enjoying some fine homemade spaghetti. I don't know why, just a personal thing I guess, but I absolutely love that part.
@Merely The video I had didn't have that pixelated shit at the beginning. The upload process 4 years ago did that. Youtube's fault, not mine. And I think if I update the video with a new one I will get it taken down.
I don't believe it was intentional, but Tommy completely dissed Henry with the "cornuto contente" remark. Henry should have got him back by saying, "you know something Tommy? You're a real funny guy".
@whatsgoingon07 Your right...It's an Italian thing..I do "NO" wrong in my moms eyes, even when I do wrong...lol...I'm obviously not doing these kinds of things but Italian moms are a rare breed...Not sayin non Italian moms aren't..If that makes any sense at all to ya?
@whatsgoingon07 lol its not about being sweet. Usually sweet mothers raise poor children due to the fact they are naive and let their sons get away with shit... udumbbro
to me, the priceless moment in this scene is when, at 1:56 in this video, Jimmy tells Tommy, ''why don't you settle down?!?'' - that means: your mother is right, and you gotta stop fooling around at your age, seriously!
and this guys saying "whatta you want from me" hahah Pesci is a fucking maniac in this movie but its heartwarming how he is so loving to his mother... like a little kid haha
@SomdeReggae yeah it's weird how he can be so violent in his work life and then be caring to his family. It was sort of the same when he played Niki in Casino. He took good care of his son and made him breakfast every morning, but then he'd be out robbing and killing every night! He always plays his characters well :)
I was given a custom made picture (poster size) of the painting in this scene for my birthday. I framed it and put it on my living room wall, where it will stay forever! Most epic gift EVER!!!
Martin's mother acts just like she did in her son's documentary The Italian American! She was a great addition to this film and Casino. May she rest peacefully!
Tommy is a classic case of a sociopath. And his mother is such a sweet lady. What the hell happened? Like the Belladonna flower, sweet but spawns death.
@CaseyAnthonysArmy LOL true! I cooked dinner for a South American girl once and she wanted to put ketchup on the pasta, I almost choked!! Where did this custom come from??
@tryandlisten No clue. I'm guessing it was used as a substitute for tomato sauce when it was too expensive or hard to get.
I'm South American (Brazilian) but have never known anyone who put ketchup on pasta, lol. I knew people who put ketchup on rice, and I tried it myself - though I find it weird, it's actually not bad.
@BasementBeginnings No what happened is that in the film Jimmy (played by deniro) is irish, so tommy's mom makes him potatoes and some eggs and gives him ketchup for it. If you watch scorcese's little discussion on the scene he explains that.
@nitinopp I know Jimmy Conway is Irish, I was just referring to the thing tryandlisten said about cooking dinner for a South American girl, and where this custom came from.
Oh, and I didn't know that was potatoes and eggs, the other guy said it was pasta.
When they laugh at the mother's painting and they start laughing because it reminds them of Batts was hilarious. The way they laugh at it, - like it's a casual joke - blows my mind every time. Meanwhile, they guy is in the trunk of the car as they eat lol
scorsese`s allways put his parents in a role or even a cameo appearance on all his movies ..... vinny is scorsese`s father in the dinner in prison scene making the sauce
LOL Martin Scorcese's mum back then is exactly how my mum is now. Short little Italian woman that whenever you go visit her, she'll cook you a 3course meal and then break your balls about being single
@shargor No dude, Italian mothers dont tell you to go home and get your fuckin' shinebox, they tell you to find a nice girl and settle down. Watch the clip, Mrs. Scorcese opitimised the typical Italian mother perfectly
Fuckin' Pesci...maybe George Carlin was right -- Carlin didn't believe in God, but if he had to pray to anyone, he'd pray to Joe Pesci...only because he looks like the kind of guy that can get things done!
