First of all, there is no Afghan nation. By 1985 the Soviets severely crippled the Mujahideen supply forcing them to retreat on all fronts. The Mujahideen spent much of their time fighting each other, they were too divided. Hardly world champion in resistance. Moreover, the Soviets pulled out because Gorbachov was out to please the West. The Soviets were not in Afghanistan to stay like the USA/NATO, nor did they go into Afghanistan with a deep hatred for Afghans like the USA/NATO.

No they did not. The Russians were supporting a modernizing and progressive regime against the CIA's cutthroats. The Soviet economy fell due to decades of bureaucratic mismanagement. The Soviet war was not directed at the Afghan people unlike the U.S/NATO war, and did not imagine it to be a piece of cake. I have Afghan friends, and know some Afghan history. The Soviets had no permanent bases in Afghanistan, again unlike U.S/NATO, and the others who foolishly declared war on the Afghan people.

There is no war between NATO and Afghanistan now. The war between NATO and Taliban government is won many years ago. Now it is a war between Afghanistan/NATO and Taliban insurgents, mostly crossing from Pakistan and doing hit and run attacks.

Soviets had over 150.000 troops in Afghanistan and lost 15.000. ISAF has 55.000 troops in Afghanistan and lost ~1000 in ten years. Ivans are just butthurt for losing war like this, and wish for NATO to lose it too.

For a conservative muslim country, female advancement was something unacceptable. As a result, the Afghan Mujahadeen (sp) began attacking the Afghan state in hopes of toppling the communist regime. I have heard that this was the reason for the Afghan civil war. Anyone ever hear this?

First of all, there is no Afghan nation. By 1985 the Soviets severely crippled the Mujahideen supply forcing them to retreat on all fronts. The Mujahideen spent much of their time fighting each other, they were too divided. Hardly world champion in resistance. Moreover, the Soviets pulled out because Gorbachov was out to please the West. The Soviets were not in Afghanistan to stay like the USA/NATO, nor did they go into Afghanistan with a deep hatred for Afghans like the USA/NATO.

No they did not. The Russians were supporting a modernizing and progressive regime against the CIA's cutthroats. The Soviet economy fell due to decades of bureaucratic mismanagement. The Soviet war was not directed at the Afghan people unlike the U.S/NATO war, and did not imagine it to be a piece of cake. I have Afghan friends, and know some Afghan history. The Soviets had no permanent bases in Afghanistan, again unlike U.S/NATO, and the others who foolishly declared war on the Afghan people.

There is no war between NATO and Afghanistan now. The war between NATO and Taliban government is won many years ago. Now it is a war between Afghanistan/NATO and Taliban insurgents, mostly crossing from Pakistan and doing hit and run attacks.
