I'm looking forward to dissecting when I hit a grade where it's to be part of the curriculum. I understand that it can be seen as cruel, but I find it very interesting. Cats are not something I would like to dissect however, because I have two myself. Eyes and small rodents, I'm okay with though, as there are already a high amount of rodents anyway. A student should have the right to say no though. Not even just because they find it cruel, it could simply be because they are uncomfortable.
I wish last year my teacher allowed us to not dissect a frog it was horrible & i was almost sick in class i skipped the rest of the days we had to do it I would not be a part of something like that & before we actually dissected the frog we did online dissection & i learned more from that then the actual dissection i was there for & i found out that next year i have to dissect a fetal pig next year I dont care if i fail if i dont do it im not going to
I can see why people hate dissection so fervently; the truth is, some people do enjoy looking at the inside workings of a real, once-living creature. When I got the chance to dissect a pig's eye I became more sensitive to just how amazing animals and humans really are, and that's something I didn't get from a screen. People should still do human autopsies in medical schools; I think it's a good idea.
Then again, don't listen to me. My username is Herbert West - I'm going to be a bit warped.
Animals are not embalmed in formaldehyde. At least not at my school anymore. They realized it is dangerous so they stopped using it, or at least the school decided to get the animals from a place that does not use formaldehyde for embalming.
I do agree with this. Just the majority of your vegan videos piss me off and full of shit. Trees have just as much a right to live on the planet as any animal. So for the vegans stop being hypocrites. Also b12 is necessary to live and the only place you can get it is from animals.
Dissection should really removed from school. If everyone was vegan or - at least - vegetarian there would be way less pain in the world. Hard to achieve, but it's simple as that. If you're thinking about being vegan or vegetarian, just do it.
In high school, I remember we had all kinds of animals...I remember there being a squid, rat, and a bird but I can't remember others. All of my other classmates were excited and something didn't feel right to me (I wasn't as big on animal rights then, so I wasn't sure what the feeling was) so I sucked it up and did the rat dissection. I did, however, let my team mates do most of the work. I mostly watched. I didn't realize then I could have said no. :/ Thinking back, it's really messed up.
The animals being killed in this video (aside from the frogs) were not killed for the purpose of dissection. The cats were "overstock" from the pound. The pigs were going to be eaten. Would you rather the cats and fetal pigs just be thrown out like trash, or used in an educational way?
The problem isn't the dissection itself, it's the mindset of people thinking that humans are anything more than any other animal here and that they have the right to use whatever they want however they want...
this is a good video because we dont want to kill animals for the wrong reason or at all they have a life, my science teacher taught me every living thing has the right to exist
I'm... so bloody sick of these whiny little infomercials. Do you realize that dissection and testing is what grants us the ability to have medicines and cures for our little furry friends in the first place? Stop halting progress because your heart is bleeding, we NEED medicine, we NEED biological information, THIS TRAINING IS NEEDED.
We, however, do not need you. You treat animals better than the humans around you. That's just not right.
Another reason, Its smells horrible, especially fetal pig and It lingers for days. I'm taking Biology twice because Its a feild I want to go into (Plant Biology, Not animal testing) and I probobly will have to disect something again and I'm afraid that if I say I dont want to do it They'll say no.
disecting is for learning. i dont mind diesecting it bothers me more about how they slaughter animals for food. none is right i dont think its right how they kill the animals for disection purposes but i am not against disecting
My friend had to dissect a rat today, and he did it. He is now telling me that he is not going to do it again and saying that he learnt a lot with this, and he could actually save other animals and bla bla bla, bullshit right?? How dumb does he think i am to fall for that? How can someone do such a thing and still think they had the right to do it, and still think is ok to learn like this, by killing.... seriously, in my opinion you are just learning to be cruel.
I'm 13 & i recently went to a concert where Peta2 was campaigning with the band. We had gotten these stickers & one of them was "cut class , not frogs ! Don't dissect !" Well today, in science we had to dissect frogs.Me and my bestfriend wore our stickers. I asked my teacher for an alternative & she said to pass, i had to do it. My friend actually cried. Later in the class the teacher explained to us that they are breeded, & uthenized just for the purpose of dissecting. Thats just sick.
Some years ago we had to dissect the eyes of pigs in our biology lesson which were killed to be dissect. I told my teacher that I didn't want to do something cruel like that and he laughed at me. I was so angry but I still didn't dissect the eyes. And if someone would told me today I should dissect an animal or should die I would give my own life for that animal. In my opinion my life doesn't matter more than the life of an animal. We both got the right to live.
My boyfriend is studying biomed at university (in australia) and they HAVE to dissect animals otherwise they'll fail. What I don't understand is - he's studying to become a HUMAN doctor, not an animal one. I know that the placement of organs in some animals are similar to humans, but it's just stupid. There are so many better ways to study without killing innocent creatures.
@ALightMasquerade Frogs Killed off other species? Oh, I see, you mean like the disgusting mosquitos that probably swarm your nasty house? Yeah, I think I'd rather have frogs living with me than flies and gross bugs that can spread harmful diseases.
You really are uninformed if you think that all those animals would be thrown in the trash. People have had their pets stolen and dissected on for scientific purposes, and I myself have adopted several feral cats over the years and not "thrown them in the trash." Fetal pigs are aborted, while alive, from slaughter house sows for the purpose of dissecting their dead bodies. They are not dead, then aborted. They are alive and aborted for the purpose of dissection. That is wrong.
The issue with protecting animal rights to the degree this video proposes is that actually figuring out what an animal is is rather difficult. Sure, scientists distinguish betweens Animals, Plants, Bacteria, Etc. taxonomically, but that definition is more functional than it is actual. Its impossible to place a line between the different kinds of life- so where do we stop? It isn't nearly that simple. Taken to its logical (instead of emotional) conclusion, we have to extend rights to plants, etc.
do you eat hot dog, cheese burger, chicken lolly pop, ha ha ha.. now this digital is from the past dissection, cruelty should be stopped, not science.
how you are getting the drug, check out the path..
I'm such a strong supporter of this, I actually refused to dissect a worm in school! I'm glad I never had to see any dead cats...the worst we ever did was a frog (which I refused to do as well)
I signed the PETA pledge against dissection in 7th grade and have stuck to it since, (I'm a junior in high school now.) I've also educated my friends. Go PETA!
In 2009. A sick kid did a bad thing. So we blame the fact he dissected a cat in school. Not the fact he was a messed up kid who was likely abused at home be his drunkin father. Great job :)
I never disected at school, But I live in the UK. I'm training to be a vet so I will most likely have to when I get closer to that point. But to save more lives after that I think justifies it. Here in the UK I think they only use animals that have passed away or been put to sleep. Some people even donate their pets bodies for vet training here so we can save more lives. Nothing is legally allowed to be killed.
im lucky that in 7th grade we got into troubloe so we didnt dissect frogs :D but this year we might have to and i heard you dont have a choice D: because if you dont u fail science, but i rather fail then to hurt a animal that we have no right to kill.
@SebastainsWifey your parents could call the principal saying that you have the right to say NO. and once the principal talks to your teacher there is no way in hell he/she couls fail you
Lol, I'm a biochemistry major, and dissecting is kinda my job. However, I don't dissect an animal unless I know it was killed without pain to the animal. I think this video is slightly ridiculous because dissecting doesn't teach students that animals are just 'tools' parents teach their children that animals are just 'tools'. If a student goes and kills fifteen cats, it's not because he/she dissected one in class - it's because he/she has serious mental issues.
blah. because of our stupid governor, he cut our educational funds to lower down property taxes, so now i can't dissect anymore. i used to be disappointed, but now im kind of glad. it looks so disgusting, and i dint know the animals were alive when you dissected them : ( i mean a body part, i can do, but not a living, breathing, whole animal :(
well done from Animal Rights Action Network (ARAN) in Ireland. Please everyone watching this, speak out against cruelty to animals and FIGHT for animals' rights.
When my bio teacher said we were dissecting pigs as our final, i asked if they were killed humanely (knowing they were not) she said absolutely. So i printed out my student rights on dissecting from PETA2 and gave it to her and said absolutely NOT! She looked at me and laughed and said i was doing it. I went to the principal and she told the teacher i was not forced to.
Cool :) I won't have to do biology until next year or the year after.. I think they do heart and eye dissection. I won't take part, even if they were killed humanely. If I fail, oh well. At least I get the satisfaction of knowing I stood up for what I believe in.
I'm glad i didn't dissect frogs last school year, it was only another classmate and I that decided to leave the classroom; I'm glad there was a teacher that understood my point of view.
It's disappointing how there's summer camps that also have cow eyeballs or pig hearts...its pathetic.
The thing is, there aren't any. People don't want to waste time and energy looking for roadkill. Its so much easier for the heartless bastards to grow and kill their own animals. :(
@ZeldaWolf55 There are plenty, you just have to know where to look. The supply would not be large enough for the students in our schools (I agree that classroom dissections are unnecessary), but it would be sufficient to foster further biological research.
dissecting animals is a crime, would you be happy if they separate you from your child/baby and take them for dissection? animals have feelings to like us, THINK?...........
I'd rather fail the class than to dissect an animal and I wouldn't care what my teacher would think. Especially if I didn't have the choice to opt out. I hope that more high schools/collages take note of the humane and digital disection methods online.
@catgoh92 you can most deffinitly just say no, they cannot fail you just for not cutting up an innocent animal. And If that teacher does try to make you do it or tries to fail you, stand up to them. its torture, not learning.
@catgoh92 Yeah, you can as long as you live in one of the states with the dissection choice law passed. They can't make you do it if it's against your views. Ask them to get you an alternative assignment. Typically they make you do dissection online, that's what I did.
I was grateful that I was able to get out of dissecting a cow's heart in my freshman year. Apart from the fact I couldn't handle that it came from a once living creature, it also made me feel faint. ._.
i remember when our science class had to dissect a cows heart or something, i yelled at the teacher about it being crul to do such things.. so for that lesson i got to sit in the spare room and draw smily-face suns .. while thinking about the lives of the animals that where just wasted on science.
however i wish i could have stopped the whole class from dissecting.
Just last week my science teacher excused me from a crawdad lab. They were still alive but I couldn't fathom the idea of poking and terrifying something that just wanted to be back home. Then the other day I talked to my teacher again, and now I'm excused from all of the animal labs. :)
I refused to dissect last year. I was given an F for the assignment and my teacher didn't offer a humane alternative. I took the F proudly, and my mom supported my decision, even sending a letter to my principal.
I think my only thing with this, not saying I am going against what they say, cause I think its wrong as well, is, what if you become, lets say, a veterinarian and you have never cut open a real living specimen? You don't know how sharp the knife is going to be, or how much pressure to apply so your first time doing animal surgery without that kind of knowledge could still take the life of someones pet. I think that is the main reason we keep using animals in dissection.
Say what you will about life choices like going vegetarian/vegan. There are always people willing to bash one side or the other. When it comes to dissection of animals, the reasons NOT to do it, outweigh any possible reason there could possibly be to do it. It's just a no-brainer. Peta-bashers will probably just shrug off this video and all the intelligent points it makes, and just ignore it because it has peta's (well... peta2) name on it.
What a waste of time. There are PEOPLE in this country that don't know where their next meal is going to come from, but these hipster douche-bags spend this much money making a movie about frogs and cats, begging you not to cut them open. Can you say "misplaced priorities?"
people shouldnt need 7 reasons....think about cutting open ur dog , or ur cat , or even your best human friend....u would NEVER hurt them like that...so why hurt a harmless animal , 40x smaller than you ? just cuz there small doesnt mean they dont have hearts .
@Lizzidudee ME TOO i dissected so many things now i feel really bad..but i will NEVER dissect again..i love animals and i want to stop their suffering
@Lizzidudee that wasn't information. most of that was just trying to get at your emotions. the only thing that was close to an actual reason not to dissect was the formaldehyde part and even that part didn't tell the whole story on using formaldehyde. maybe the problem lies with the disposal and misuse of the chemical. it isn't even solely used for animals. people use it too when embalming the dead.
I once had a science class where they wanted us to dissect frogs, I planned on sneaking them out and letting them go behind the school in a creek but I was pissed to find they had already been killed. =(
It is a moral issue not a scientific one. If you have reached the point that you hang on the few doctors that go against animal experiments as your best case against vivisection, then the animals have a problem that no alternative could solve.
Problems should be solved from the roots and the root is an historical crime against weaker creatures in an excuse of human superiority. The problem is in the way humans see animals not in the way scientists see science.
at school we had to dissect a bull's eye. i did not know about it untill the day after because i faked being sick because i was to lazy to go to school. well im so glad i missed it. next year its a fish so im just gonna show this vid to my class cause everyone in my class said it was cool exept for 3 people (including me!) the only dissection i have done was on a flower a couple of months ago. and guess what. i failed it lol!!!!!!
I'm looking forward to dissecting when I hit a grade where it's to be part of the curriculum. I understand that it can be seen as cruel, but I find it very interesting. @catgoh92 you can most deffinitly just say no, they cannot fail you just for not cutting up an innocent animal. And If that teacher does try to make you do it or tries to fail you, stand up to them. its torture, not learning.
YummyVegetarian 1 year ago
@catgoh92 Yeah, you can as long as you live in one of the states with the dissection choice law passed. They can't make you do it if it's against your views. Ask them to get you an alternative assignment. Typically they make you do dissection online, that's what I did.

I hate disssection. Time to share this with friends :D

I was grateful that I was able to get out of dissecting a cow's heart in my freshman year. Apart from the fact I couldn't handle that it came from a once living creature, it also made me feel faint. ._.

I always thought this was a thing of the past. How cruel the world still is. What a shame on so many levels.

i remember when our science class had to dissect a cows heart or something, i yelled at the teacher about it being crul to do such things.. so for that lesson i got to sit in the spare room and draw smily-face suns .. while thinking about the lives of the animals that where just wasted on science.
however i wish i could have stopped the whole class from dissecting.

I couldn't even finish watching that. If I ever have to dissect something, I'll send my teacher this video.

SapphireToemoe 1 year ago

Can you say "misplaced priorities?"
pickl36586 1 year ago
people shouldnt need 7 reasons....think about cutting open ur dog , or ur cat , or even your best human friend....u would NEVER hurt them like that...so why hurt a harmless animal , 40x smaller than you ? just cuz there small doesnt mean they dont have hearts .

I regret feeling like I had to dissect just to pass. I wish I had this information at the time.

@Lizzidudee ME TOO i dissected so many things now i feel really bad..but i will NEVER dissect again..i love animals and i want to stop their suffering
CRAzyKRisTeLl 1 year ago
@Lizzidudee that wasn't information. most of that was just trying to get at your emotions. the only thing that was close to an actual reason not to dissect was the formaldehyde part and even that part didn't tell the whole story on using formaldehyde. maybe the problem lies with the disposal and misuse of the chemical. it isn't even solely used for animals. people use it too when embalming the dead.
beavis2021 1 year ago
@Lizzidudee: Same, but now I will help save the lives of these animals...no more people like me and you :) <3

@Lizzidudee I was just thinking the same thing. I have a pet rat and we dissected rats last year and I feel horrible now. :(

I once had a science class where they wanted us to dissect frogs, I planned on sneaking them out and letting them go behind the school in a creek but I was pissed to find they had already been killed. =(

Reason number 1 is enough.
