  • Ebikes can be easy DIY projects. Check out my ebike with 45mph top speed and 25 mile range! Check out Endless Sphere

  • its fun alright ..

  • i love it , if only they did this know LOL , amazon is buying rate for e-bike kits are up by 5000%

  • Passing cars on the open road ......

  • Woooo! Looks like so much fun

  • *pulls up next to Lamborghini* wanna race? *bike wins* xD

  • the battery charges if you pedal then you can use it if you need it :) i like it

  • Nice one!! electric bikes are great!

  • Bloody hurt to fall off. But I suppose that's part of the life of having a bike.

  • Incredible bike! Can someone please give me some tips about bikes? I'm wanting to get either an electric or motor bike to get around faster but don't know which to get. Electric bikes I hear don't go very fast but save $ over time and motor bikes are hard to build and require a lot of upkeep yet can fly down the street. I'm not rolling in $ but I've saved up some for a good one. I don't know which to get, can someone give me advice? Thanks!

  • @Zegeebwah motor bikes are worth the upkeep

  • Upcycle, I have had my hub motor for a few weeks and it's the best investment and most enjoyable thing i ever bought. I would like to ask you in your experience how many miles will it run before I have problems? I have riden it about 100 to 150mi so far on level roads and trails and it's been awsome. Thanks and keep the wind to your back.

  • @sky12066sed3 Re: how many miles before having problems with hub motor...

It depends on which hub motor u r using. Which one (manufacturer/model r u using? It seems that a motor can go several thousand miles, typically, at minimum, before experiencing any problems. The battery on the other hand can have a limited life. Some of best 4 longevity, ATM, r the Lithium Ion Phosphate Polymers. And apparently best is Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries, because they are safest and can get most recharges.

  • @sky12066sed3 You and upcycle rock! My extended family and I have done our part for animal rights and the environment by not reproducing and being vegan since 1980s, since those were the easy sacrifices, but I always feared giving up my car. I am proud to say that 2 weeks ago I overcame my fear and ordered my electric-hybrid tricycle from Omega Stores, after months of talking with different dealers and trying out a non-electric trike at a local dealer.

  • @sky12066sed3 I took this quantum step in my life because peak oil is behind us.

My first fear (when it arrives this week) will be to assemble it correctly.

Second fear: that it will fit me: I will need to replace the crank arm with the shortest possible crank arm.

My legs do not extend and flex fully, because I have 2 artificial knees.

I chose the more expensive Lithium Ion battery and the power-booster, since this trike will (hopefully) replace my car.

  • @sky12066sed3 My third fear: being able to drive to all the places to which I drive with my car

(whose use I have drastically cut since 3 years ago). Nearly all the roads out of my house have no shoulder!

I just got fed up letting that scare me and keep me from switching off oil to an electric(-assist) vehicle,

powered by solar and wind (Viridian).

I (we, the country) cannot wait for cheap electric cars any more. I had to act now, as there will ALWAYS be a learning curve.

  • hehë_ànýòñÊ_wÀÑNÄ_chàt_wÌth_mê_ï_fêÉl_sõ_l0ñëlý_tõdÄÿ╚

  • Yeah, I could definitely use an electric system. I'm using a beach cruiser to ride 7+ miles to school, and back, twice a week. It gets a bit tiring but hey, it's still not costing me in gas!

  • @BelchTycoon Good idea to consider retrofitting ur cruiser with an electric hub motor system. You may find u want to ride it more than just to school twice a week.

  • @upcycle Thank you for the suggestion. Would a bicycle shop have the items I would need to allow for an electric conversion?

  • @BelchTycoon My experience is that most bicycle shops do not carry hub motors or batteries, unfortunately. Depending on what country u r in, it seems that most people have to order systems online. Another option is to see if you can find an electric bicycle club in your region of the world, and meet others who own/operate electric bicycles for ideas on sources and recommendations. Another possibility is look for people selling used systems on Craigs list to see about learning more / test riding

  • Buy a 66cc mortorized bicycle kit instead for 125 bucks . ILL never buy an electric bike again after trying a gas one. Ive spent thousands on electric stuff just to have the batterys wear out after a couple of years then go spend another thousand for a new one. All of my electric bike stuff is for sale cheap.

  • @459am which electric motor and transmission of energy to wheel did u use? which battery system/chemistry did u use?

electric motors and batteries, especially batteries, have mad huge improvements over the seal lead acid, Nickel/Cadmium, and Nickel Metal Hydride. Even Lithium battery chemistry/technology has improved significantly. The Lithium Iron phosphate being superior to even he recent Lithium Polymer. And even more recent developments in nano tech for super capacitors which will ...

  • @459am And prices on electric technology is getting cheaper and cheaper all time. & safety factors r getting better & better. & development of electric interface standards r getting better. One advantage 125 dollar gas motor could b used 4 electricity generator on full electric power assist bicycle. This would b similar 2 how Chevy Volt is full electric, but it can not only get electricity from plugging 2 electricity source, it can also get it thru gas engine. there is market for micro generator

  • Thanks again for the advice on the forks, the bike I may try to use is an 84 Olympics Murrey that I leave at the beach in winter months,I will try that on for size and go from there. Thanks so much for your help, keep your back to the wind and have fun.

  • upcycle, I got my motor this week and now wo;uld like to ask you if you recommend the Marin bike because of the width of the forks or is there a cheaper bike that you know of for a first timer like me? I will need about 4 1/4 clearance.

  • @sky12066sed3 I am not sure about the bike Marin. But it seems that the strongest forks for electric bicycle are thos that do not have building suspension. It seems that front forks with suspension, and a front hum motor, although it may work, are a little more at risk of the fork braeking under stresses that the motor can induce.

  • Come take a look at our Favorite Bikes & Bicycles at Top town bikes & Bicycle

  • Thanks for the reply and comment. just the info I needed.

  • i wish i had one

  • Upcycle, would you recommend using a 400w and nothing less or could I use a 250? Thanks

  • @sky12066sed3 It depends on several factors. one is regarding how much power and speed you want. Generally speaking for average urban bicycling with average weight rider and on average upright bicycle with average street tires, I would say a minimum of 500-750 watt hub motor would be ideal. II think 250 or 400 is a bit under powered.

  • Great vid thanks for sharing.

  • I have a Mini 40 Mile Busettii bike and it runs 50-55 miles on one battery charge. I also tried my friends Vortex Mountain bike by Busettii. It ROCKS ! Can get up to 32 mph top speed, and on one charge that bike set the new record of 86 miles. Hope it becomes a big hit. In California many people like Busettii because they cost around $1700 but can go 50--86 miles on one charge depending on model. Maria in Cali

  • @dacci545 The higher the wattage the higher the output of the system. Watts is a function of volts and amps (i.e. 50V battery with 50A controller is a 2500W system). This will result in an increase in power and/or speed depending on how your motor is geared. For instance I have posted a video of a 2500W system that is capable of reaching speeds up to 33 MPH while still maintaining some great climbing ability

  • Comment removed

  • anyone know what makes an electric bicycle engine go faster or stronger watts or volts? Would a 250watt engine go just as fast as this 400watt one? What are the benefits or tradeoffs?

  • I WANT

  • I want to change the seats on my bicycle to a larger rectangle with a softer cushion. It may look more ideal and be more practical.

  • @heartlessvietboy interesting thought. And i think an even more practical bike with this electric assist system would be an upright recumbent with handle bars near chest height.

  • Electric bikes are being belt right now.

  • alternative transportation win ! ! !

  • Free Energy is real and its here! The Oil companies are doing everything in their power to stop these information. If you want a Free energy machine do a search in youtube for the LT MAGNET MOTOR , Join the revolution!

  • @transfusablepng

lol. take an elementary physics course dumbass.

  • Where do you buy that?

  • They should have it so it recharges the batteries while you pedal. Perhaps even contribute to the speed a little

  • @takadi There is much less energy loss connecting the pedals directly to the wheel rather than using pedal power to charge batteries and then use the electric motor exclusively. Lol, that would be like burning wood, to create steam, to generate electricity, to heat your home. Besides, for hills with pedals still running to the wheel, you can give the motor a boost. If you only had the electric motor propelling you, you would have to slow down

  • @FRdemo9

Yea that's what I meant. The pedals would be mainly used for the wheels, but the extra rotational energy could be used to contribute power to the battery, which in turn could be used to boost you during cycling. The rider could have a choice of riding exclusively on electricity without pedaling, or using the motor to power their pedaling, contributing to more speed. Friction of the brakes could be used to recycle energy back into the battery as well. Alot of hybrid technology use this

  • The problem is they're not practical anywhere except in cities. The concept is great, but you can't pick up someone, put a lot of groceries, use it in the rain/ snow safely.

go on a big trips etc. Also, bikes are easy to steal, easy to crash and most car drivers underestimate how fast you're going and cut you off. On hot /cold days car with heater/AC is 10xbetter unless you like arriving to work all sweaty or frozen.

Of course, if you insist on saving gas then buy a 50cc scooter. 100MPG+

  • Thats a smart idea. Could you give me a rundown on the rules and laws for electric bikes.

  • @vistigioful google it

  • how much speed it can achieve?is it auto-charging?sorry I couldn't hear the audio.,

  • 2300 dollars in gas savings. How popular are EV bicycles becoming in the US?

  • Electric bikes are becoming increasingly popular here in The Netherlands, even though most of them are sold to the elderly that want to have support when they do their shoppings or so (to help them get along when they have the wind blowing up front.)

Do you know how expensive this installation is, upcycle?

  • @Dutch3DMaster it said 1300 dollars for the whole thing but i bet u can make something like this for less then 400 but i was in netherlands and i really love how u guys ride bikes every it was awesome :D greets from czech

  • @620sly Tthanks for mentioning the price, I must have missed that in the video :).

That's pretty expensive for a bike conversion.

Most electric bikes here are sold for 400-500 euro's (I think, not sure.)

  • @Dutch3DMaster yea when i heard that i was like what cause in a store i saw one for like 350 so i dont know what they were trying say

  • today i had an idea. i want hybrid powered bike - exactly as it work in hybrid cars. With small 4 stroke engine ( <50cc), electric motor, and... kers (u know what i mean). I wonder if it could be fun.

  • They should make the batteries fit in the frame.

  • I want one I want one how do i buy it?... I wanna pass those snarky pro lycra wearing bikers on an up hill.

  • Where Can i get this kind of bike ?

  • seriously, in America this is news.. we sell electric bikes in shops here in England

  • @fairyheli2 they sell um in the states to i agree with u why this makes news ?

  • I wonder how fast and far he could go if he put an engine in the back as well and doubled the batteries?

  • Always find it funny how americans moan about gas prices. In norway the price for one gallon = $7.50 And no, we don't earn more than twice as much as americans.

Gotta give cred to this guy for ditching cars and going green though :) Commendable.

  • @ronnysoeberg We earn 5 times as much as Americans, but we use most of it on taxes and sky high prices. I'm from the states and have lived here in Norway for a few years and I'm still surprised how much things cost, especially bikes and parts. A bike that I got here for 4000kr($620) cost about 800kr($120) in the states for the exact same thing.... anyway.. I save about 13,000kr($2000) a year by riding to work instead of taking the bus or driving, and it's good for the health as well.

  • can we have an electric bike which is not plug in and battery charges when the

cycle is driven by cyclist only using an alternator or small generator .

  • @shank270291

I'm sure that could be made, but why would anyone want that? It would take more energy from the bicyclist to load the batteries than you'd get energy from them to the motor, plus the motor + batteries probably add 10+ kilograms of weight to the bike. Useless!

  • I am 13 and I am going to attempt to use scrap parts to convert my bike to a hybrid

  • Michael could you tell me a bit more about your battery setup and accompanying recharger? How would you approach it given more recent battery technology? Thanks, D

  • The only apprehension I have with riding one is with the dangers of riding a bike in the streets. There are a lot of bad drivers as well as pot holes, there are just too many potential life ending hazards out there.

  • Yeah that's the only thing holding me back is getting run over by some idiot.

  • @jaymoore299

that's like saying you won't drive a car because someone will hit you

You just have to be alert at all times.

  • @colombianguyyo No it's not the same thing. The car would absorb most of the force of the impact. With a bike, you are the one absorbing the impact.

  • I wonder what is his bike's top speed.

  • He said about 35mph.

  • Wizard upload, thanks. wow ! 120 miles in one trip ? How many times did you have to stop and re-charge the batterries..?

Do you know if you can charge the batterries using a solar panel ?

  • they only go 10 miles though ! you need at least 20Ah batteries (very heavy) to get anywhere far ...

  • ima do that

  • My Husband rides a E-Bike. It's 500WATT front hub motor with 36Volt-12AH battery. He loves it, he spent around $600 for the whole thing making it. He rides it everyday and it saves him a lot on gas. He works on it once a week for a hour. Just to making sure the PSI and everything else is fine. E-Bikes are like cars, you take care of them, it takes care of you. Don't blame the things you ride/drive. Blame the person controlling it.

  • I am in no way trying to make electric bikes look bad because I love mine and absolutely love the idea. I tried getting friends and family to use them as well but they kinda think i'm weird using it. To each his own. I had to purchase very strong tires because I popped two of them. At higher speeds its hard to avoid road debris that you wouldnt even see on the sidewalk. One day I did try to avoid debris and the more durable tires have less traction so in the rain it just slid out from under me.

  • thanks for your comment.

  • It would be helpful if you give more data to support and clarify your claims. According to your description, one can percieve your added costs of maintenance are a result of riding the bicycle more per year. Tires and brakes would not wear our more per mile. Theyt would not wear out any faster than anyone else riding the same bike at same speeds/conditions as a bike without an electric hub motor system.

  • Regarding wiping out, that is more of an issue of safe riding skills. You might want to consider taking a bicycle safety certification course.

The only exception that may validate the issues you describe is if you used old friction drive technology without with or without a brake lever cut off switch. Those are definitely less safe, they definitely would wear the tires our. And the brakes could be worn more rapidly if the system does not have a brake lever cut off switch.

  • @ear12861

ever tried repairing a car on the cheap?

  • @wayfarin yes

  • you can't ride this in every state. some states have a problem with electic bikes on the road. New jersey is one of them. but you know depending on what city you live in, the cops may not care. He rode 120 miles one way? wow that something else.

  • lol @1:00 , the more gas you give it the faster it goes lol

  • @jonnyasprin more like throttle instead of gas LOL

  • I have by bicycle with 220 w and lithium ion battery

  • please give me name of german motor brand.

  • fdxzfxz

  • Is this safe to run or use it even if it is running or there's 2 inches flood on the road?

  • and some day the jews will kill him lol

  • yea.. um.. u buy these in the hundreds.. nevermind thousands for a DIY one lol

  • omg this is exaactly what i need!

  • I respect him. More of his brothers and sisters are what we need most right now.

  • and snow proof and minimum of 90 kph,

  • all you need is a way to carry large items and waterproof it, and you get a sale boom

  • He'd better harness his pant leg or he'll make up for the gas money saved with buying new pairs of jeans and stitching his leg.

  • The energy stored will help out. You can't say oh it won't power itself. Only lazy people complain about not having enough energy. The fact that this man has the opportunity and wants to do this is amazing.

  • a GOOD regular bike is a totally different animal to a box store bike. Motors arent really needed! Lets build wind protection in open areas, along feilds and such! Read up on rivendell bikes homepage and such places!

  • thats cool

  • ahahahahahahaha NERD!

  • *cough*

    faggot

    *cough*

  • P.S. if ya'll are such pussies, then just cuddle up to your sluts of mothers, cuz ya'll live in the slums, and probably dont know how to read this comment, the press is idiotic thats all i'm saying

(the guy who made the bike is ok in my book)

  • What about a bike that generates electricity from pedaling and you can use that energy to power a motor that is attached. Instead of charging it from an outlet use motion converted to energy to power the motor.

One trip pedaling and the other using the energy you made to ride back.

  • wouldn't work, the electricity you generate wont be enough to power a motor for the entire trip back, electirc motors are effecient, but not 100% effcient

  • I dont think you understand what im saying. The engergy you exert while manually pushing the bike should be able to be used to store electrical energy that you can use later. Now how much energy you generate/store is another thing.

  • ohhh, thats what you mean, attach a wheel to a motor and put it on your rim, when you pedal, the motor spins and creates electricity to be store for later, is that what you meant???

  • yes exactly

  • I will be posting footage in the near future.

  • How well do the hubs work on "steep" hill climbing? I am finishing my 1 Kw electric and moving to 48 volts. I have a massive motor driven freewheel sprocket on my system. 36 volts does the work but 48 v will be unstoppable and probably more efficient. I was considering whether or not to wire my 36 volt 1Kw controller with 48 volts. Do you think the power electronics will accept the extra 12 volts? I don't have much experience with overvolting.

  • so how long does it take to charge im seriously considering an ebike but did he say days to go a couple miles? how many chargers would you need if you wanted to use this everyday for a couple years?

  • The length of time can vary from 30 minutes (or less for a top-off charge) to a couple hours.

The length of time for NiMH batteries is on the longer side of the spectrum of charging time. Lithium Polymer batteries are on the lower side of the spectrumof charging time.

Check out "dewalt ebike" videos on youtube. Alot of people are using the dewalt batteries and chargers for thier ebikes. Let me know what you think..

  • Back in my younger days I would drule all over this back and sell myself dirt cheap until I get the money to buy it. You age, get married, have kids, and its like "hum..." And "hum.." is far as you take it, then back to work you go.

  • i like it!

  • How about a bike that uses half the riders power, and half someone else's power that you force onto a second seat and shock them to make them pedal. At the same time you can siphon their tears for thirst quenching.

  • I want one!

  • When you get one, post videos of yours, so we can see it. Thanks.

  • This is sweet.

  • thanks.

  • very nice

  • thanks.

  • can any onetell me where can i buy a motor like tat iam living in chicago

  • buy a whipper snipper motor, or a motorised bicycle kit and put it on your bike

  • You can find them on the internet. Some of the most popular include the Crystalite. I would recommend getting a brushless version. The brushless ones without internal gearing seem to be the most quiet hub motors, along with being the most energy efficient. They also seem to do better in moist environments.

  • I would love to buy one from him!

  • niiiice :D but i still would choose a scott :D

  • Scott is good. Keep in mind though that hub motors can cause a bit of touque. So if your Scott has front suspension, you may want to put the hub motor on the rear wheel, or you may want to consider the max power your hub motor when applying it as a front wheel replacement.

  • Awsome idea, the problem is safety as getting hit by a car is a big concern ... maybe the technology can be applied to a very light car like a old ford festiva or Renault 5 (LeCar)

  • Yes and yes. And we are likely to see more hub motors applied to other vehicles. As a matter of fact, there will be a retrofit hub motor on one of the vehicles in the Automotive X Prise race this year. And apparently, it will be made into a kit that can applied to virtually any car, whithout need for removing the wheels or it's current engine. The hub motor is attached to the outsid of one or more of the wheels.

  • cool shoes

  • I was one of the first customers and found it a pleasure doing business with Pat. He knows his stuff and provides answers.

The bike has been fun, exciting and useful. I have no problem getting it over 20 mph if I want. Going uphill is no problem.

Had both knees operated not long ago and haven't been able to bike for exercise. This allows me to get exercise in without overdoing it. You should pedal before accelerating anyway. I find myself just pedaling along anyway just to keep the legs going.

  • I like his design with the motor on the front tyre, looks a lot tidier than on the side of the bike.

  • I have chronic fatigue and got my electric bike delivered today, i can go much further than on a normal bike, and its a less extreme alternative to an electric wheelchair, cheaper and faster.

  • I feel that this is a wonderful thing to be seeing. Things like this will help my fat butt get to where I have to go and lose weight @ the same time. Thanks for the video.

  • What is name of German made bike motor brand?

  • i swa ur reply. please give me name of german made motor .

    eagerly waiting for your reply.

  • Clarify what concerns you have regarding theft over your car.

Theft is an understandable concern for bicyclists and for those riding ebikes. However, depending the the situation, an electric bicycle may provide advantages to driving a car. And there are some techniques to mitigate many theft issues.

Additionally, if the electric assist is put on a high quality folding bicycle, the bicycle even has more advantages than a standard upright bicycle with an electric assist motor on it.

  • I ordered my 36v 600 watt hub last week and I cant wait.

  • Excllent! Let us know about your experience installing and using it.

  • Can you please tell me where you ordered from and the brand of your kit? Also, how is it working out for you? Thank you in advance.

  • I have been searching for an ebike dealer all over the state (I live in TN too) I am ready to trade my car in for an ebike, it would be a great business to start... upcycle, you interested??

  • I would be very interested, but live in oklahoma...am a tinkerer..many years in different areas, have been looking at alternatives for about 4-5 years.I imagine a wimhurst machine or similar to charge banks of capacitors or so on,but I need to learn more about the wimhurst, or at least I want to, as I only see it in one or two forms.I want to build my own rendition of one once I complete my first and understand the principles. Drop me a line if you would like to chat about these things...anyone!

  • cool.

  • Some recent comments spoke of the idea that this will catch on with most people. I would like to point out that the average person today has concerns with money and being able to pay for necessities. One of the expenses it transportation. And the electric assist bicycle has the advantages of a bicycle with added advantages of low cost to free electric energy for going places.

  • Unfortunately, this will never catch on, Americans are too spoiled, out of shape and lazy leave their air condictioned SUV's, Big Oil loves us.

  • hey not all americans are fat lazy and love SUV'S i watch videos of the traffic in places like Taiwan where they actually have bike lanes and lane splitting is allowed and wish it were like that EVERYWHERE her. bikes and scooters have more respect and are so much fun there. my motorcycle was totalled by some ass clown in a car and if everybody rode bikes they'd be more careful and traffic wouldn't be as crazy! i want an e-bike!

  • hay man can you teach me how to do that

  • hell ya. We need more guys like this. It's not about being cheap either. It's about saying " NO MORE" to the oil companies, helping the environment, and getting exercise! Now, just hope he doesn't eat meat. That is a real waste of energy.

  • You bring up an interesting point regarding saving money being a motivating factor.

There was a book written several years ago called "The Millionaire Next Door" which did a study on the lifestyles of actual millionaires as opposed to those that act/dress/live as if they were "Millionaires". It was identified that actual millionaires had lifestyles that included making financial choices which were soundly focused on the best values for their money. I suppose that they may also include ebikes.

  • The only downside is bikes are stolen so easily.

  • Theft issues can be minimized. And there is new technology that allows for gps tracking of bikes that are stolen. the tracking unit is hidden in part of the frame. And it may be possible to also incorporate a video cam on the bike, that can send pictures back to the owner.

  • I think this is a great idea, and I'd line up to get a hold of one of these bikes if I weren't currently in new york city (where I can get anywhere by mass transit).

My only concern would be safety as he's going pretty fast without much to protect his body. A crash at 35 miles/hour would pretty much wipe him out for a few days, if not weeks and months.

  • interesting comment regarding mass transit in NYC. What does it cost to use mass transit there? I am wondering if it may be worthwhile to do a cost comparison, in addition to convenience factors of an owning/using an electric assist bicycle(with occassionaly multimodal use on public transit) compared to exclusively using mass transit in NYC.

  • it costs $81 for a monthly unlimited metrocard in nyc. and about stolen bikes, that technology is pricy i imagine, and if a bike gets stolen and you have a tracker, it's still a hassle to find. the cops don't really pursue bike thefts where i live. and even if the bike isn't stolen, your seat and wheels can be stolen. people usually only lock up one wheel if they lock them up at all. still better than a car for day-to-day errands.

  • Thanks for taking a look at the video and your comments. If you or any others have some other good electric bicycle videos pleas share with us.

  • No regenerative braking? What the hell?

  • ???
