Something else that is interesting is that Obi Wan Kenobi was actually written for Toshiro Mifune (Who is one of my favorate actors,) I just didn't see a mention about it here, so I mentioned it.
There is allot of ungrateful gits around here. George Lucas changed Cinema. He created Pixar, he created ILM, he created Merchandising. He brought Digital film making to a whole new level. The man has done tremendous work for film making, and just because of a few Star Wars crazies, moaning about the prequel, people get on his case, get a grip.
OK! everyone i basically know everyhting their is to know about American movies after years of research and watching thousands of films... now its time to make my way towards the asian films! Please make a list of directors from asia that i must research! im very interested and i need real movie fans to tell me about the name of the directers! thank you!
@ChadTheWrestleManiac Japan: Akira Kurosawa, Kenji Mizoguchi (Ugetsu), and Yasujiro Ozu (Tokyo Story). These three are the best Japanese Filmmakers and the ones Western filmmakers are most familiar with. If we're gonna extend the definition of Asia, then I also suggest you check out Satyajit Ray and his apu trilogy and Abbas Kiarostami (from Iran). Be warned though that there are heaps of crappy asian films, maybe more so than Hollywood.
Yes the prequels have better special effects and help people understand what happened before the empire toke over, but I like the original because they are the ORIGINAL. So what if the new films have "better" special effects, what makes the original saga special is looking at how awesome effects were during that time and how they were able to make such great effects with so little.
@Trekiefreak777 I'm not acting like I;'m going against the "popular" opinion, I am going against "Popular" opinion. I don't care if everyone else agrees with, I'm not going to be a brainless idiot and agree with what everyone else thinks. I do think for myself and have my own opinions.
I loved this video because for me it's looking at this as a much older person I grew up loving star Wars and still do, while also being introduced and growing into the films of Kurosawa , in my opinion what is so special is how different the films are yet how they still have the same importance
@RoyalBlue43 i read somewhere that Lucas DID go to the writer who helped him write the orignal series but the writer told him, "Star Wars" is your series and you should write it.
Maybe that wasn't the best advice.
Anyway point of this reply I have a feeling John Milius would had said something similar if Lucas had asked him.
Very intersting. I love listening to George Lucas talk about film. He may be terrible when it comes to screenplay writing, but he knows what he's talking about. He's obviously someone who appreciates and loves film.
@MyProfileIsGreat You r just another one of those ppl who hates the Star Wars prequels. I dont understand why ppl hate the new series so much. It's awesome!!!! Does everyone hate the new series bcuz it seems so much different than the original trilogy that the last generation grew up watching and admiring? The special effects r way better in the new series, and technology has become so advanced over the years. I personally love all 6 of the episodes. They r all epic in their own ways.
fuck you lucas

The Academy members of the past should get the Lethal injection for not giving Kurosawa an oscar.

"Why can't people be happier, and why can't people be happier together." Yep, that's pretty much what all great films are about.

If he was friends with John Milius (Apocalypse Now) why didn't he get him to rewrite the prequel Star Wars?
