judging by your 5 foot casts it looks like you were fishing a nest....when a fish is on it's nest it will remove threats by picking them up in their mouth and move them away...you just happen to put a "threat" with hooks on it on the nest...that's not really fishing...fishing would have been making that mac daddy come from the depths to eat your bait not move it off it's nest

@stonepown I troll rattle traps or top water buzz baits untill I find one than I stop and fish the are untill it stops.On shore I throw bright colored rapala shad raps or road runner jigs with a small plastic grub or shad.The c-100 canal in s.dade is the bigggest population and biggest fish,but I have caught them as far north as the lake ida chain in Palm Beach.

@stonepown Chug bugs are great.Top water is my favorite.Summer seem better for top water.chug bugs,zara spooks,skitter walks all are good in summer.I think sub surface is better for winter.They love structure like bridges and pump houses in the winter the structures hold the heat and make the water a little warmer.
