  • This song shows how creative a lyricist he is.Its amazing that he was only in his 20's when he wrote this. This is one of the most complex songs by him I have ever heard and ever.Amazing.

  • i confess... cried a little bit when i listened to this

  • Try Allan Clarke's cover.

  • Thanks Thom405L, great post and an unbeliveable song!!

  • amazing song- he needs to put this in the set list when he tours again.

  • I fucking love this tune. Not the greatest lyrical piece but this is one of his great performances if you ask me

  • Not sure the student prince counts (essentially an attic right before a few musician friends?) please correct me if i'm wrong.

  • @BaronM

Not sure of the size of the club, but the shows her were most definitely advertised and were generally performed by a full band. It was as the Bruce Springsteen Band that he performed Priest so it was more than likely not acoustic.

  • @craigscot67

    I stand corrected.

  • Impresionante canción... Con la E Street Band sería alucinante

  • alucinante encontrar canciones ineditas de esta genio

  • Gracias por sur comentarios. Bruce es un genio.

Gracias a Lisa para traducir para mi.

    Cheers

  • I love this song. Beautiful!

  • Hauntingly beautiful!

  • you can get it on the Demo Tapes recording... amazing song. didn't think he ever did it live. wow!

  • I used to have a copy of this song which was a slightly different version. The vocal was more restrained with no 'talking' parts and the whole thing just a little more polished. Anyone got any ideas where I can find it? Cheers

  • He has performed it live. The legend that he never did came from John Hammond. Actually he has played it at least once - in December 1971 at the Student Prince (a fact noted by Bruce himself).

  • Thanks for the correction......I was always under the impression that he'd never played it live...from quotes 'allegedly' attributed to Bruce himself as well as JH. There might even be a tape out there somewhere??

  • No luck with the live version ... yet! Maybe when they release the video taped shows that Bruce recently bought lol. The interview where Bruce 'admits' playing this was with Ed Sciaky on 3rd Nov 1974.

  • fantastic song, should of gone on greetings imo

  • IF i were a priest I would make BRUCE A SAINT-JAD

  • love this

  • Jazz musician now posted.....

  • now waiting for jazz musician...

  • it's rare, definitely. So thank you tom! We were waiting for that.

  • It's not 'rare' mate...most fans have it...just not not many posts on here....

  • ...during his demo session with John Hammond, he was asked to sing a song he would never perform live....this is it....and I don't think he ever gave a reason for his comment....

  • good song, why won't springsteen perform it live?
