@MACentertainments firstly, are you saying the internet has ruined you family? how about turning it off and having a conversation? secondly, why are you putting your age? are we supposed to be impressed how profound you are for your age?
head of Santa Claus is slightly off-centre, indicating it was put together very hastily after the strike. However, the quality of the programmes was much better in those days, Abba on the Mike Yarwood Xmas show, followed by Morecambe & Wise, Excellent!
Definitely 1978- I seem to remember the strike being called off on the night of Friday 22 December. (Phew! That was close.) The programmes were better back then, even if the Morecambe and Wise era had ended- they went back over to ITV in 1978. Ghastly ident, mind you- done last minute and based on the same principle as the previous year's Christmas pudding, which was a tremendous success.
Fair enough although i know there was one that affected ITV in 1979 as well -check it out ; i'm certain that i read it somewhere relating to an artists career on Wiki ; maybe Cannon & Ball i dont know.Anyway i was always a BBC man myself and to this day i seldom give ITV the time of day ! BBC always had the best stuff !
There was one before Christmas in 1979, too- it became an annual event- but I think you might be referring to the 11 week strike that started on 10 August 1979. (The 'Welcome Home to ITV' re-introduction is on TV Ark.) I preferred the BBC, as well.
This is the clip that I've been looking for! I'm pretty sure it was either 1978 or 1979 and this ident was done at the last minute as the BBC were on strike right up until Xmas Eve that year and so this Ident was rushed through. I thought I'd imagined this! I know there was a strike that year at the BBC, but I can't find any information about it on the web. Can anyone please shed some light on it? I'm sure I'm not going mad!
Santa's head in a box! It's bloody terrifying.

I seem to remember the Xmas screens went blank on ITV Xmas '79 and we had to make do with old films and stuff, or could that have been 1977?

It's been said before - but I'll just add this is very, very definitely nineteen seventy eight and it's great to see it on YouTube.

The carol singers is from 1979 and is one of the better Christmas idents. Any 70s and 80s continuity is very welcome.

It is 1978
