I have visited this circus many many times and I have never once seen an animal abused. I have gotten to the lot before the first truck rolled in just to see them set up. These animals are treated very well. The show travels early in the morning when it is the coolest and it wastes no time in getting the animals out into the fresh air. Before you pass judgement go and talk and work with the circus and then tell your tale.

My family has a long history with all types of animals and i can tell you from the bottom of my heart that we care and love for are animals, just because some idiot with an ego treats his animals wrong doesn't mean we are all like that! the only way to get elephants to do tricks is by torturing them. they get no medical/veterinary care at all. they die at young ages, instead of living to be 70. If they do live past 40 they're very sick and the owners don't treat them with medicine or kindness, they're tortured and forced to be slaves. They live horrible lives. Boycott all animal circuses, especially Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey, they are HORRID to their elephants. Teach your kids to avoid circuses.
People are being PAID by PETA for the accusations. These animals love performing. This is all they know. The Animal Welfare is a MINIMUM standard of care for these animals and is frankly a joke. It limits the time an animal can be transported across state lines without food, water, unload, or ability to lie down for 28 consecutive hours, 28 HOURS. I defy any human being to be shoved in an unventilated un-heated/un-cooled box car , chained so that they can not lay down ,deprived of food and water for 1 28 hour stretch, let alone doing this day after day , year after year.

Kelly Miller Circus does take excellent care of its animal and doesn't kill their animals like PETA does, over 19,000 since 1998. Both the US and the UK Governments have done investigations on circus animals in transport and they both found that circus animals DO NOT suffer during transportation.
first of all im not with peta and i am not aphiliated with them. second of all, you cant keep an animal that naturally roams miles each day happy in a cage that is made to travel arund the country. the cages arent big enough and the animals dont get the natural stimulation they need. its not fair to the animlas to make them sacrifice theyre happines and comfort for our entertainment.
yes i have domestic pets and i do not keep my animals in metal cages nor do i make them travel with little excerise for day on end. I do not have my pets on display for the entertainment of other i have pets that i love and show them the love by giving them as much room to play and as much space as possible. I just attended Kelly Miller Circus and I didn't see any animal abuse. All of the animals were healthy and happy. All of the animal's enclosures were clean and that were well protected from the weather. The animals that performed inside the ring also looked great, no scars, well fed, happy animals. There was a clear bond between the animals and their trainer. This reporter seems like hes just another peta propagandist.

Just last week in Illinois, Sept 2008, I personally witnessed the ponies at the Kelly Miller Circus chained up from 4 pm to at least 9 pm to the pony ride apparatus while it rained non-stop all day. They were under a canopy, but standing head to butt in mud and their own feces for 5+ hours without being able to move. These are the times we are aware of, it could have been longer. The reality of the life these animals lead, is no fun day at the circus.

NONE of the problems that you cite as FACT relate to ANY of the current personnel or management. The Kelly-Miller Circus has been under new ownership and management since the beginning of the 2007 season.
NONE of the show's employees are "illegal immigrants". Each employee is here on a specialized visa that the show went to great lengths to obtain.

I lovee the Kelly Miller circus.
I just went to see them two days ago and the animals looked great.
I discussed things with the horse trainer. They treat their animals wonderfully.
You PETA people are stupid.
I'm a vegetarian. I have horses. I work at a riding stable.
These horses look better than most horses at RIDING stables do. They do two shows a day (maybe even every other day.)
My father and I have helped to host for the Kelly Miller circus, and they are wonderful people.

I also find it extremely offensive that you assume that any Latin American working in the American circus industry is an "illegal alien".
Do your homework.
The circus is an international community. The show has many native born as well as international performers from around the globe.
Your assumption is as untrue as it is racist.
To report it as fact is irresponsible and inexcusable.

This is the MOST irresponsible type of "journalism", and I use that word loosely.
NONE of the problems that you cite as FACT relate to ANY of the current personnel or management. The Kelly-Miller Circus has been under new ownership and management since the beginning of the 2007 season.
NONE of the show's employees are "illegal immigrants". Each employee is here on a specialized visa that the show went to great lengths to obtain.

The comments made in this video are insane, and completely false. It shocks me that somebody would blatantly lie about what they saw, especially on the lot of a circus that holds animal care so high on the list of priorities. As far as the immigrant issue, Circuses are not only inspected by the USDA, but several agencies that inspect and regulate almost every aspect of the circus' operation. You should be ashamed, sir!

Not one word of what your report seeing is true. You aren't a journalist, you're a liar. Fortunately your lies are so outrageous, and your claims of verification from actual agencies make your statements actionable. Just for the record -- you didn't get ANYTHING right. Not the required Visa type. Not the dates of USDA inspections under the previous owners. Not the claim that Cleveland Zoo sent an observer. (That gentleman was a circus/zoo fan attending with his mother.) Zero credibility.
