  • Gotta love the pscyhedelic science videos in the background - trippy and eerie.

  • @kevo4369 Its amazing what you can see in a dew drop from a spiders web.

  • In my opnion along with Rush's 2112 and Led Zeppelin's Dazed and Confuzed

These the best compositions of all time !

  • It hurts me inside when people talk about Genesis and Rush on these Yes videos. Sure those bands are dandy, but come on, Yes is on a whole different level of quality. With Genesis you're getting some great down-to-earth prog. With Rush, you rock out! But with this particular era of Yes, you're finding out the nature of the goddamned cosmos! (this can also be said about plenty of other bands)

  • 2 people are.... are.... are.... are what? don't know explain..

  • @vinnypimentel Those two people were Bieber and Gaga

  • the Close to the edge is the level or (probably) two higher than Genesis ever created.

I ´m saying it as the Genesis fan, but - haha - i´ve always ben the Yes fan!

  • @katachi1 see the seeds of life at 2:07??

  • Why on earth are these guys STILL not in the rock hall? Talk about ridiculous...

  • @mcdade27 They ARE in a much better hall: The heart of their fans. Anyways, I wouldn't want my favorite band to belong to a corporate created "institution" where fucking Madonna is already part of.

  • @mcdade27 because it is run by douchebag JAN WENNER...who caters to rockstars with no talent like madonna.....why is METALLICA in and not MAIDEN OR PRIEST!??!?!? its fucking ridiculous

  • Simply...POWERFUL.......♥

  • Beautiful song!

  • This masterpeice is...magical!

    YES:eternal...

    Jack, from Brazil

  • This song is, to me, of the same caliber as songs like Pink Floyd's "Dogs". It's almost an awkward length, but thanks to great song writing and musicianship, it's nailed perfectly so as to not feel tedious in the end.

  • @LittleBabyWheeler

Echoes by Pink Floyd as well....

  • @LinkBulletBill No, certainly. I said "Dogs" because I feel it to have a bit more of an (arguably) "awkward" structure, whereas Echoes is actually quite stringently organized. "Echoes" is, to me, the greatest prog rock song ever written. I don't care who disagrees because it's written in stone. But for the sake of applicability, I cited the awesome "Dogs." :)

  • Yes!!!! You are the Best Forever!!!!!

  • Perfection!

  • amazing!!!---

  • Yes...Genesis.

Both ground breaking and diffinative in their field of excellence's and musicianship.

Genesis...best (Selling England by the Pound)

    Yes....best (Tales of Topegraphic Oceans)

  • @Kristopful Well, for me Genesis's best is Foxtrot, and Yes's is Relayer.. But that's just subjective...

  • This for me do'es not work so well as the studio recordng. It's too complex...even for YES, with their awesume line up.

Check out the studio version, which has incredible drumming of Bill Bruford. That is the full version....20 minuetes long, or so.

"Close to the Edge". A difinative, ground breaking Album.

  • I remember buying close to the edge and sittin around with my friends smokin pot and i dont think any of us got it at first buti could tell there was somethin really cool there. After a few times me and my other musician friends really got 2 lovin it.Totally in its own world

  • one of the greatest songs ever published

  • Knowing what was coming wouldn't lessen the trip in any way.

  • beyond description!!!!!!!!!

  • Did four better musicians EVER lay down a more awesome jam than Squire, Bruford, Howe, and Wakeman did in the opening ~3 min of this song?

  • thanks Herman Hesse for Siddartha

  • There is always that one asshole who dislikes a flawless vid. Seriously, Yes is one of those few bands where every single aspect about it is outstanding: the vocals, lead guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, drumming, songwriting and lyrics. Thank you for uploading this, Toioba.

  • Yes is indeed a very talented band. There aren't many groups who sound better out of studio. This is incredible. I have this recording of Siberian Khatru live, it's absolutely flawless. But this puts it to shame. This is just amazing.

  • YESSONGS!!! GET DVD

  • I just got reeeeeel happy

  • Such a tight band live! One of the very best. Love the union of Chris Squires bass with Steve Howes guitar work.... bloody awesome!

  • Thia performance wasrecorded for the fabulous Yessongs' Album.

  • unici!!

  • OMG I would give almost anything to be able to travel back in time and witness this spectacle of musical orgasm live!!! The music of this present time unfortunately is littered with garbage. You only find glimpses of actual talent here and there, but Yes just takes the cake for me!

  • 8:10 Rapture!!

  • All hail the incredible Yes

  • Summer 1971: Asbury Park, NJ Convention Center

    Sold Out:

YES is warm-up band for JETHRO TULL...hundreds of us camped outside, blanket-to-blanket on the beach listening, partying our butts off!!! What a memory!

  • 2:33 best guitar solo in history! (in my opinion)

  • BEST VERSION EVRE, FROM YESSONGS

  • Back when real music could fill arenas.

  • Saw this movie on a rainy winter afternoon in Sacramento.

    Thanks!

  • I have searched the Tube upside down. This is it!!! This is the authentic version I remember from my younger days; note for note, beat for beat.!!! Thanks so much for posting. This is not ordinary music. This is the product of the amalgamation of genius. The version on the digitally remastered album has been irritatingly doctored at various nerve points and is not in the original format. This posting shows what Yes unlike any other band could do. ie. reproduce a Studio sound in a live concert.

  • i know what u mean cause it is the same for me man!

  • i think its cool that whenever i think about a song i always see the color of their album covers, especially this song haha its such a "green" song!

  • this is wonderful!!

    amazingf music!!!

    Jack,from Brazil,yesfan

  • YES FOR EVER!!

  • SOul crushingly beautiful.

music from an unnattainable plane of existence.

i feel like I will never feel this as much as i should be feeling this.

    GAHHhhh

  • YES the number one of all bands all over the world YES WITHOUT JON ANDERSON IS NOT YES REMEMBER THIS Regards from Argentina

  • I could say this one of those songs that I HAVE to listen to, at least once a week (sometimes more). It inspires an infinite number of emotions while listening. For me, one of the best music compositions of all times. Really!

  • @vivelavidarocka a year later and you still a fag!!

  • @amialive06 Go back to your boyfriend Bieber's videos.

  • @vivelavidarocka I'd have to agree, especially about the geographic and emotional implications of the lyrics and harmonies. It's timeless.

  • Mr. Toioba, doesn't matter the quality, but the real feeling...and U got it. Many thanks for posting it.

  • este video se merece todos los aplausos

    Look My Bolg pls

    And Post me thannk

Live Close To the to Edge

  • The readers of PROG magazine voted this album the #2 in the list of the 50 best Prog albums of all time. First was Sellinfg England By The Pound. I voted for CTTE......BUT YES had six albums in that list instead of five from Genesis. So overall, WE won...!!

  • to be faire, genesis only recorded five albums with their 'classic' lineup compared to the seven recorded by a 'classic' yes line up. Both bands kick the shit out of any other music I've heard!

  • Absolutely! I just said that. I like them both equally. How couldn't I?...

  • @juandhaltrich What is your fucking problem? How old are YOU? 12? Or perhaps just a no-life retard looking for fights in the internet. This is not the first time you verbally start abusing me for no reason at all. I took a rain check the first time in another YES video and I didn't respond back with the same type of aggravations you did , but I start believing you have a crush on me or something, you pathetic imbecil. If you don't agree with my comments IGNORE them. Asshole.

  • @vivelavidarocka What have you done to that idiot before? LOL You're right, he got a crush on you. LOL BTW excellent collection of favorites videos and playlists (wow, more than 400 acts). I've never seen a dude with such eclectic taste in music and films. Congratulations. And ignore stupid people, They aren't worth your time nor energy.

  • @juandhaltrich Wow, you're really a tough guy, insulting everybody, aren't you? What I see, is a dude with a good musical taste writing two high rated comments. And you, like the looser you are, felt the need to insult him for no reason. Like he said, and stated it in another comment (eight months ago!), he "loves both bands the same". Sorry, just stop leaving comments with personal insults, only 'cause you have access to a computer. Is childish.

  • @juandhaltrich (cont) And obviously, since you are so desperate to give some type of meaning to your useless life picking fights in youtube, you ignored a second comment of mine saying "I just say that, I love both bands the same" (referring to the "WE won" remark). Now, who's looking like a dumbass?

  • @vivelavidarocka Both are great bands, and you should take into considerantion that only the first five albums of Genesis are actually prog; when Hackett and Gabriel left the band took another course...

  • @tomyguinz91 Yeah man. I said that as a joke. How couldn't I love both bands.

  • @vivelavidarocka The readers of Prog magazine have excellent taste in music.

  • One of my favourite songs. I'm 15 and Yes and Jethro Tull are my favourite bands. I love prog-rock

  • check out some of the reallllly old genesis material with peter gabriel... stuff from before 1976.

  • I love Foxtrot and Selling England by the Pound, and especially the songs Supper's Ready and Firth of Fifth

  • Tull Sucks. Check out Camel, Van der graaf generator, gentle giant, genesis, King Crimson, ELP, Gotic, Renaissance,

  • I listen to all to those bands you mentioned except the two last ones. I guess i have to check them out^^

  • Good kid. Your parents should be proud.

  • I've loved prog since i was little, we are both norwegian progfans. what's the deal? i know sooo many norwegian kids that love rare progbands XD

  • I love it!!!Amazing, wonderful...No words...

    eternal...

  • incredible indeed

  • Marvelous. Thanks for posting toioba!

  • My favorite Yes album. The first I bought after borrowing from a dude in 10th grade (1974). After Close To The Edge I got the rest. I especially like the groove they get into @ around 5:42. Back then bands could REALLY play. I truly feel sorry for today's youth. Their music is so basic and unfortunately concert tickets are high as hell. I saw a lot of bands in the '70's and I don't remember ever paying $10 to see them, & back then, you'd see 2, maybe, 3 bands for less than $10.

  • I wouldn't call bands like Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, Enslaved, Mastodon, the Mars Volta and Porcupines Trees music basic. But alot of modern (popular) music is basic, true. But the 70's was also awesome, just look at Yes and Nektar.

  • I'm not familiar with the bands you mentioned. I guess I'm a dinosaur, stuck in the days of my youth. But based on your word, I'm gonna check on those bands. Thanks for schooling an old head on some new & interesting sounds.

  • I'm 18 (born 1990), and what you just said made me cry inside (and yeah, there are some tears in my eyes..) My dad grew up in the 70's (born 58, so when this came out he was 15/16 and was getting into it). I am sooo ashamed of what us youth are today... Though I was born in the '90, my taste in music (I also play guitar and an assortment of other instruments) and lifestyle in general (ie open-source movement) are definitely of the 70's (though that's a generalization, but it's mostly true ;))

  • it's very refreshing to see that some of today's generation actually has good taste in music. You dad is a year older than I am so I'm sure he has many stories to share, especially if he was attending concerts while in high school. My folks talk about seeing Chuck Berry & Little Richard during their teen years. I actually wish I had been born around 1950, so I could've seen Hendrix & the groundbreaking bands of the '60's. Stick with that guitar Brother!

  • Hehe, so you're as old as my guitar! :P (Gibson ES 225T 1959..) sorry, I love showing it off.. but it's an amazing instrument, and of course Steve Howe turned me onto hollowbodies (gibson es's especially... nothing beats a vintage es - NOTHING!)

  • You're deep Brother. I expect to see big things from you very soon. I have a Strat & a Yamaha SG 2000 + a Jazz Bass, but I didn't pick up a guitar until I was 46 years old & I've found that I won't become proficient on it by picking it up once every couple of weeks. I love the instrument & the true guitar slingers & I know it takes total dedication to master it. Again, I'll be looking for big things from Spyes23.

  • How's your version of "Mood For A Day"?

  • merveilleux, irrépétible, beautiful, maravilloso :)

  • I have known this song for thirty years now, and loved it without actually giving it a concrete meaning. (Like with modern art, or with loving women; it is unnecessary to attribute a particular 'meaning' to what/whoever it is that you love. It is simply there. Love!)

Looking at this video, however, I recognize some images that I have unconsciously harbored for all this time. The nucleus of life. The birth of planet earth. Early, chaotic life getting into order. The all-invading desire for life.

  • I agree whole heartidly! (Though I'm young... only 18 :\) I've never really tried to give meaning to this song, but -everytime- I listen to it, I somehow understand everything.

Yes takes me far and beyond!

  • !super bueno!

  • This seems to be from their 'Yessongs" concert film (1973 tour, film released in 1975).

  • Led Zeppelin copy them because TSRTS was also recorded durng the '73 US TOUR but released in 1976

  • Yup, this is definitely off Yessongs '73... the greatest live album (and quite possibly the greast album -ever-) Every song on it is preformed so well... though 'well' is a _huge_ understatement.

This version of Close to the Edge is incredible on so many levels... I've never heard anything like it, and I know that we never will..!

    Yes are Gods.

  • awesome
