We named our house Shangrila in 1972 after this song.

We are still in it and as Ray might say ",this is where we belong."

We were there at The Roundhouse 36 years later when he sang this song and the video was shot for the BBC proms

I moved from australia to london in 1964 and the Kinks was the first LP I ever bought. I was 13yo. I still hold the Kinks as the best band to come out of Britain. Long live Ray Davies. Long live Australia. I shall never tire of either

Wow, thanks for posting! Wish I could have attended that concert in person, how inspired to have a live chorus there!!  From all reports, this gig was one of the best Ray gigs ever. I can see why.

I totally agree...Ray should be knighted...absolutely. The UK should be so VERY proud of one of the world's greatest writers/performers....ever!

He is too great to bother with knighthood, but I do understand your point. Like you, being American and I Canadian, I have a secret envy of the Brits over this business with their amazing songwriters!
