Wow... I've heard a lot of versions of this piece, and this performance of Vals No 4 was definitely one of the best i've ever heard. Even better than those of John Williams and David Russel. Keep playing man!
nah,, i dont care he play with feeling or not... the way i see... he is talented... so who say bad thing.. why not you upload your version of playing... we can judge it for you... dont talk cock...!
very good playing, but he should really take into account the speed he was playing. it doesnt need to be quite that fast, as some of his passages show that it was a tad too fast. also, it should be taken into consideration that rubato should not be used as a means to make the piece easier by using the rubato to slow down the piece.
There are alot of talented kids out there but you have got it all; technique, tone, expression.A joy to watch and listen to; the sky is the limit. Keep it up Kevin. All the best little brother.
Actually... I could. Granted, I wasn't that able at that age, but I certainly was by the age of 13. But what would I know...
Having spent an awfully long time listening to idiots who think that technicality is everything, I feel justified in saying that this is still not true music- there is no passion, no understanding. That is what music is about... the feel, the expression and the emotion. Not just being able to play the notes... *sigh*
HOW COULD YOU POSSIBLY SAY THIS KID IS PLAYING WITHOUT FEELING? I'M SURE MANY OF US TIRE OF PEOPLE LIKE **YOU** RIPPING ON PEOPLE WHO WORK VERY HARD TO BECOME WAY MORE TALENTED THAN YOU WILL EVER BE.
JUST BECAUSE SOMETHING IS ACCURATE DOES NOT CLASSIFY IT AS BEING PLAYED WITHOUT FEELING!!! GET A GRIP ON YOURSELF DUDE AND APPLAUD THIS INCREDIBLE **MUSICIAN** - HE IS CLEARLY MORE OF ONE THAN YOU WILL EVER BE.
I can say that... because he is. It's right there. I'll post my own version when I actually have a spare minute. I take a lot of pride in what I do, and never will bother releasing anything until it's ready.
This piece demands a lot of patience and understanding on an emotional, technical & contextual level. It's a waltz. Can you even imagine people dancing to that at the stupidly fast rate? No. Think about the piece in context, and turn your caps lock off...
@WhaleBlueTwentyTwo Well, have you listened to the original regcording by the original composer Barrios himself? Are you implying Barrios is also just a technical freak? Some dances aren't meant to be danced at all like Bach's dances, so you shouldn't take the title dance literally. Anyway for what we knew, interpretation does improve with time as our life experiences grew our understanding of music certainly does so too. Kevin is a talent that will just nurture and get better with time.
No- please can you link me to it? I am not implying that Barrios would have been a technical freak, I think he would be opposite. This is my favourite piece of guitar music to listen to and play. Don't you think that if the title is a 'Vals', then there may be a slight inflection of a waltz feel? It's not a strict dance but there is still that 'oom-pa-pa' feeling retained that is clearer at certain passages. Yes- this is the point I wanted to make. He will gain this as he gets older.
@WhaleBlueTwentyTwo You better think again pal. I have a video/recording on my channel of Barrios himself playing this, and he plays it every bit as fast or faster. I also think this kid actually plays it better than Barrios did.
I disagree completely, he is very expressive, onle one who knows how to play the song will know the details of the song. Based on your comment, you are obviously jealous of his playing...
very nice!!! when he gets older, he'll probably be more expressive...that definately comes with age. All kids like to go fast....but this is an unbelievable performance....great job...Scott
Thank you, Kevin for such an exhilarating performance. I am genuinely pleased that Singapore finally has such a young, promising and dedicated guitarist!
Does he have a life, or he only plays, and plays every minute of every day?

less mic, more expression
thejugglenaut91 3 years ago
like souellette22 said, he plays very good for his age.
but lacks expressive. in the very beginning he was doing ok, but then he starts to speed things up and loses melody ...
Kenjinap 3 years ago
Completely agreed. Stick to learning the important things about guitar. Technical ability is only the first half, expression is the other half...
WhaleBlueTwentyTwo 3 years ago
He's 10.
Could you even pick up a guitar then?
He's got the rest of his life to "Master" it.
No pleasing some people haha.
