I was really disappointed when I saw this movie and this song wasn't actually involved anywhere in it. I guess the band must have just really liked the movie and felt it would all fit the music well. It's really amazing also to see the video for "59 Minutes" (from the same album); the movie used there, "Metropolis", is very similar to "Dark City" but predates it by an era and is a silent film. Too bad that video didn't make "HISS"; people would've been blown away by the comparison.
@gabrielapetrie This music was cut from the final release of the film, but was in a late enough version to appear on the soundtrack album (finalized, obviously, before the film's release) A tough blow for the band.
I love the movie... far better than other noir / cyberpunk movies with great actors (Kiefer Sutherland as the doctor, excellent). When I first saw it the ending was like a hit in the face.
And Course Of Empire... well, nothing more to say than FUCKING GENIUS.
I happened upon these guys when they opened for Machines of Loving Grace back in 94'. I was in awe, especially over the duel drummers. Great live show, so many great songs on all their albums.
i used to listen to this when dark city first came out. i bought the soundtrack when i was 8 just to listen to this song. awesome memories man. my favorite fuckin movie.
dallas has had a ton of awesome bands that just havent had the pr push to make it big. bands from ugly mustard, course of empire, spot, brutal juice, hagfish, and even the toadies really never got the credit they deserve. i still have my course of empire initiation cd though. great shit.
OMG I love this song!!! The lyrics are so confused and bewildered (yet also melancholic), but the melody has purpose and direction. The song itself makes me feel like I'm not sure where I'm going but I know I'm moving in the right direction. Such a great song, and also a great film. 5/5
These guys put on an awesome live show saw them about the time this came out in Austin

@MrNolanface Like a lot of 90's bands, they signed the wrong record deal, such a shame.

I've always loved their drumwork, but I couldn't figure out how to reproduce it solo.
Seeing it done with two drummers made complete sense of what I missed.

They broke up over frustration with management and having no decent A&R rep from what I heard. Too bad, too. They had a lot of potential.
