@frank55656 No one is forcing you identify with any group but you should know that people with a parent or grandparent who is white WILL OFTEN identiy themselves as "white" whether they look the part or not. RARELY do a person of mestizo descent identify as "Amerindian". So in practice, it's the mestizos who force their views on the general population. 55% of Mexicans put on the census in the USA as "white". I highly doubt there are that many, since a large percentage of them ARE mestizos.

Scientifically speaking there is NO SUCH THING AS RACE. It is a sociopolitical term. The boundaries between racial groups is flexible, irregular, and constantly changing. Italians and Irish in the USA used to be considered different races. Now, they're just "white". What race is a Filipino? What race is a Russian or a Slav? It is *impossible* to make hard rules that stick about this sort of thing.
Still, it's obvious that many in this video are totally confused or ignorant about themselves.

I honestly don't know what to call myself anymore but human being lmfao. I'm Hispanic by heritage, born in the US with Mexican born parents. One parent has more European blood (Spanish, Italian) than Indigenous, and the other had more Indigenous than European. Technically, I guess I would be considered Mestizo, but then I'm not exactly tan (white skin, but with Indigenous features). We're usually told to mark the "white" column, but really, we should pick "other".

I see Spanish people every day in large numbers at work, and they DON'T look that different to any other western European (Blue eyes can run up to 30% in parts of Spain) I am as "dark" or darker than many of them and I am of English/Irish ancestry...and yup, it's almost 100% certain some of my ancestors were ancient Iberians some 6000+ years ago. RARELY do a person of mestizo descent identify as "Amerindian". I highly doubt there are that many, since a large percentage of them ARE mestizos.

This was painful to watch. It seems that these individuals would rather be anything other than Native. Just so you know, Native Americans were treated so bad that they'd often try to pass for a White or even a Black to escape the ill treatment that they were suffering; however, by marrying a Black and attempting to pass as such, they could become slaves. Someone can make the reverse argument and say that they are not a full spainard (white) but I doubt they would bc most Mexians aspire to be white. It seems like you wouldnt have a problem identifying as white like most of the Mexicans in this video which is sad bc most of you clearly look more Native American.

I think its hilarious when a bunch of mexicans are runnin around calling themselves latin, latin was the language of the Roman empire, an empire based in Western Europe, with remnants still around in Italian, French, Spanish, Portugese, Romanian etc etc, it has absolutely piss all to do with the native peoples of America, or even ones mixed with Spanish.

Lol, all people try to be white, and if they can't achieve that and they're obviously predominantly black they try to be Hispanic.
It's all about social ranking. My grandfather is browner than many indians and he es white. White race is not only about the colour is the less important thing. I´m from Spain, and I don´t like the term white to named us. Many Spaniard, Portuguese, Italians, Rumanians, etc... have got other differencies about the tru white (England, Germany...). I like the term caucasic, it´s more certain to named us.

This is the problem that is causing the confusion. There is no such thing as race. Its a joke the guy from Uruguay thinks he is white. Spaniards are not Latin. Latin America is central and south America. Latinos died off 2,000K +- yeras ago. How the hell can you be white if your ancestors came here from Asia across the bering strait? When im in Florida im brown as shit. When i go back to Washington state i am Pale white. So what the hell. I guess it depends in what state i fill up the cencus in will determine my race. Ultimately , i am judged by the color of my skin and my name...that is until i speak whiter than whites.

We indigenous peoples in Spanish speaking countries are raised and taught that being Native is something to be embarrassed or that you must hide always. It's one of the worst consequences of the European invasions in the Americas.

the majority of us are actually indian( wich is asiatic) regardless of percentage of spanish blood admixing. You see, our faces preserve the indian look in a strong way, so if we look more indian, then we are indian, but if someobody looks more white, then they are white. Interesting question and as much as I hate to admit it they are all; based on race, African. Your categories are all wrong; white, Black, native american, asian. Your categories should've been: African, European or Asian as those are the only true racial breakdowns. The "native american' migrated here from Asia & that would be via Africa. Waht are you trying to proof with this video?, we are Mexicans, Dominicans,etc. We have (as you mentioned) Hispanic heritage; millions in Latin america have European blood. Many are fully white, many are fully Indian. Most of us are not Indian, black or white. The census was misleading and it did not gave the appropriate options. That doesn't mean the people you interviewed were trying to be white, they were confused. So if you want to be Indian go for it! but respect others views.
