It's not conspiracy that I drew the "unlucky straw", becoming disabled, when a GP insisted I have a routine tetanus shot in 1999.

We should know that, although it may be rare, great and irreparable harm does happen to some who receive vaccinations. It's why the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program was put in place. It acknowledges a portion of the population is vulnerable to vaccine harm, though rewards are few.

However, 4 a child with Cerebral Palsy 4 instance in addition 2 occupational therapy may also have 2 be provided. About 50% of people with autism are also mentally retarded, just the way that people with cerebral palsy or down's syndrome can have mental retardation. Autism predates vaccination, and the "epidemic" is more a factor of reclassification than increase in actual numbers, as the MR cases have decreased proportionally with the increase in ASD. Diagnosis is also important and the role that IDEA plays in that cannot be underestimated. At any rate, We should be finding out what genetic conditions are at the root of the problem. WIthdrawing vaccines is not an answer and declaring them unsafe is not an answer either because of the effect on the public.

That is the way courts work. If the lawyers weren't flooding the courts with superfluous lawsuits it would speed the process up for those with real claims. The people who suffer severe reactions to vaccines, in particular anaphylaxis, are usually aware of the root cause. A case such as Poling's reflects a minority of a minority which required extensive medical testing to make a case. If not for the studies in genetics, they would not have had one. Again, vaccines are not the root of the prob.

Separately, ethics is entirely debatable. Society benefits from vaccination and the question is relativistic. It sucks to be the parent of the one that dies; by all means we should try to make them as safe as possible but nothing is perfect. Penicillin has saved millions of lives conservatively, but will cause allergic reaction in 10% and kill 1%. I am in that 1% having barely survived it, but I do not call for withdrawal even as you cannot know the reaction until you try it.

What mothers are saying is: after their children are vaccinated they see a sudden regression in their child's development only 24-96 hours following the vaccinations. There is no question that vaccines DO have the potential to cause adverse side effects in a small percentage of the population. This has more to do with the sensitivities of the recipient than the vaccine itself. However, the idea that the age of vaccination precedes the age of PDD onset as a reason of proof for a vaccine/autism link is textbook faulty logic. PDDs are genetic in origin. Furthermore, there exists a fundamental difference between prescription medication and vaccines.

reports of Aut. rates are skewed by how data is interpreted. The definition of ASD was broadened during those intervening 25 years. Contrarily those for MR were tightened and rates of MR have statistically decreased. It's a question of labeling resources and public awareness:an artificial inflation. There has been some increase in ASD rate but the "epidemic" is blown out of proportion. these kids are done a disservice by people refusing the science preventing money being put into the realcauses.
