  • This may be funny, however it was IBM that designed the Hollerith machine (first computer) to assist the Nazis in the totallisation of the european Jewry for the industrialized genocide of 11 million Jews in WW2. Look it up. IBM are scum, you should all be very concerned. They are guilty of assisting genocide.

  • 1:55 Lul windows xp.

  • @AlanShore4god However, Watson runs SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. Windows does not run on Power7, the architecture Watson is based on.

  • Just wait until the kill all humans instinct kicks in.

  • this reminds me of H.A.L., which, if you take the next letter after each letter, you get I.B.M.

  • héy_pâsst_hìèr_ñèt_reiñ_àbà_îch_bìñ_sø_éînsàm_wîll_jemâñd_mït_miá_schrêïbèñ

  • 0:13 what is watson?

  • @mariobaseball808 An IBM supercomputer. n00b.

  • @Jasper2428 k fine, talk shit over the internet just cuz i didn't know what watson is. fag

  • @Jasper2428 and i was actually answering the question faggot.

  • are we going to be quarians from mass effect and watson will be the human version of geth if they go crazy and try to make intelegant work robots?

  • its all fun and games until it answers the question "Why let the humans live?"

  • what is "elementary, me dear Watson?"

(well, everyone's thinking it, I'm just Saying it)

  • Lmao, 1:34 Thats a Macintosh!

  • dude it should go against dave mustain on rock and roll jeopardy!!

  • I'll compete against IBM's watson on jeopardy if they let it compete against me in boxing :D

  • Jct: "Doing this ends inflation of money?" is one question I'm the only human who claims to have solved and I'd bet Watson cannot.

  • Watson became self-aware at 11:21:12 a.m on December 21, 2012. We never had a chance.

  • i bet the next host of jeopardy will be watson.

  • startrek ...... computer make me a cookie

  • were fucked.....

  • Let an ultraintelligent machine be defined as a machine that can far surpass all the intellectual activities of any man however clever. Since the design of machines is one of these intellectual activities, an ultraintelligent machine could design even better machines; there would then unquestionably be an "intelligence explosion," and the intelligence of man would be left far behind. Thus the first ultra intelligent machine is the last invention that man need ever make.

  • @GSZ64AA Sure, but a robot couldn't possibly live without us, we only give it brainpower. We don't give it a human body to walk around with. I think making ultra intelligent computers is the only answer for us, let us colonize the universe. Religions and shit has retarded us though, we could've already been up there lol.

  • ...."What is Leg"

  • Wow! this new computer is confident, intelligent and speedy! But Toronto is not the correct answer -_-

  • this starts out cute and fuzzy, then they figure out how to make this mobile. Then the companies claim it is a great idea and consumer demand suggests this be installed into robots. After a few years, the economy is chugging along nicely and wouldn't it make more sense to automate our socioeconomic infrastructure with AI. All of a sudden boom! We are a useless and blubbering mass of cells and the the third highest life form.

  • wikipedia with voice recognition

  • In a few years Watson is going to become evil and try to take over the world! Thay will call it V.I.K.I. and will smith is going to save the world once again

  • Watch my new video,"Watson pwned by HAL9000" at my channel, "JerrysFunhouse".

  • Watson is going to use the $1 million to produce his own robot army.

  • Alrite IBM great job...........just don't give it to apple and we all wont die

  • We're all done for........

  • " ... at some point in the early twenty-first century, all of mankind was united in celebration, we marveled at our magnificense as we gave birth to A.I. " Morpheus

  • NGT anyone?

  • I've been enjoying the Watson competition. But yeah the machine will overtake us all.

  • Quickly Arnold, grow your muscles again and team up with Nick Stahl. We may need you again.

  • THAT SHIT IS GONNA KILL US ALL!

  • @themasterkilzoner We are doomed it learns things!

  • learned nothing from moviess like the "terminator" and "i robot" we're all gonna die.

  • @DeviousTF - It's cool. Don't give it WIFI, Internet access, wheels or legs.

  • Soon it will be asking where John Conner is.

  • Thanks a lot for posting this.

  • should of named it HAL for the lulz

  • Apocalyptic prediction: The human race will make computers so technically advanced that soon enough they will grow the knowledge that human beings are destroying the planet, therefore will fight to destroy mankind. I cannot predict that this will happen in the next year but lets hope our pursuit of technological advancement won't rebuttal against ourselves.

  • @dcqhuntero4 I give it five years

  • Only IBM hugh? I am sure Microsoft & Dell or Oracle & HP could have pulled this off, too.

  • So in 20 years time Watson will be the size of a normal Personal Comupter?

  • This is why machines will never take over the world. 1st, Watson is the size of 10 refrigerators, so putting that much knowledge into a robot that can 'run and gun' is out. 2nd, machines wil never prosper as long as they stick with that stock computer voice, now I would feel a lot better about submitting to machine rule if they tell me to in the voice of Morgan Freeman or Matt Damon

  • Comment removed

  • 1 quote: i'm sorry Dave, i'm afraid i can't let you do that

  • Watson: "Who am I"

  • Will look back to this moment as the beginning of the end, it just seems logical to me that computers will, one day, challenge human supremacy. And the next question is, is it a natural happening, after all it is of this earth. Interesting questions no doubt. I guess I'll leave them to future generations. Look forward to seeing this Watson perform, I believe it takes place on the 16th. We're all on the cusp of revolutionary change. tick tock tick tock...................

  • @BenjaminWirtz

Not necessarily robot politicians, but say a Watson analyzed the economic feasibility of standard talking points, for example "Giving tax cuts to the rich will stimulate the economy." Well with a Watson there with its ungodly sized database of statistics and economic figures and all that fancy stuff, it could spout out what the possible effects of cutting or raising tax's in certain sectors would be, instead of this opinionated system we have now. Things would move a lot faster.

  • @DevilsAdvocateism basicly Watson could replace technocrats one day.

  • Comment removed

  • Imagine if this kind of technology is some day implemented in our political system, OMFG we might get some things done.

  • @DevilsAdvocateism

You mean robots will be politicians? Now there's an idea, until they decide they want to oppress humans.

  • only when computers are made with bio material will they ever have a threat of being sentient, and even then, they most likely will not go killing haywire, because they would only know what they have either learned or been taught, which means they will not just go, HEY LETS KILL ALL THE HUMANS ITS THE ONLY WAY TO SAVE THEM! That is flawed logic, which of course a robot that is sentient would not be likely to make.

  • its like the beggining of terminator

  • Thanks, IBM, for killing us all.

  • 7 people are afraid of a global, robotic takeover...

  • "and deliver that with very good confidence" yeah i guess so, its a computer, probably wont get shy....

  • these types of systems are gonna eradicate humans eventually

  • @jersey1212 not even close...think of this as a massively parallel data management solution...with a good natural language interface..nothing more..its not that good with reasoning...

  • @subbuktek are you serious? this is the beggining---you never watched a scince fiction movie have you---this is the first step awnsering questions---we are giving computers identities its not good mark my words

  • the computer will win.

  • Sure, Watson can answer word-based clues, but can it contextualize image and sound based clues? Would it recognize the Mona Lisa or Beethoven's 5th Symphony?

  • @goldomega Hi, recognizing images and sounds are even some problems that are seen to be solved.... yes, i think it's even easier for Watson

  • @goldomega Sure it can, it would have a database of known musical pieces or paintings and when it hears or sees things it will check it against its database for the closest match.

  • @Gaeuvyen I'd be interested to know whether Watson handles that data as a database, or if audio/image samples are interpreted as nonlinearly as the word-based questions. If shown three newly made paintings of different styles, could it pick out the impressionist one? If a Scott Joplin tune were played on an accordion, could Watson recognize it as ragtime?

  • @goldomega Probably not.

  • @goldomega No Watson couldn't recognize nor discern audio stimuli, I watched a special on the build up to the anticipated jeopardy showdown. as a matter of fact, all answers and questions have to be text ed to Watson. It's one thing to get a question but to give Watson site wow that's a long way off. I think...

  • I for one welcome our robot overlords.

  • one leap forward in the development of artificial intelligence!

  • Is it just sort of google on steroids? No it is not. His face didn't even change lmao, should've snapped at the camera and catwalked away xD

  • 1:28

  • So you don't feel like talking to me, enter Watson! I love the advances in technology,

it speaks to the creativity of man's intelligence through the eyes of God.

There are no big bang theory questions the results speak of this kind of brilliance.

  • does anyone know what day this particular show aires?

  • Comment removed

  • @GDon141

According to a commercial I saw two days ago, the set dates are Feb 14-16.

  • Stephen Hawking ist das you?

  • it looked like they were programming with window's software

  • Watson for president!

  • What is IBM?

  • Google on steroids lol

  • @thePEOPLEperson1 lmao yeah. I bet it's actually Google on steroids -_-

  • @thePEOPLEperson1 lmao yeah. I bet it's actually Google on steroids -_-

  • Oh my god! Did they not see the Terminator movies?!? I really hope someone can stop them before we reach Judgement Day.

  • @hardhat42 We're smarter than that, we ALL install a kill-switch.

  • "Gussy it up however you want, Trebek. What matters is does it work? Will it really mighty my penis, man? Because I’ve ordered devices like that before – wasted a pretty penny, I don’t mind telling you. And if The Penis Mightier works, I’ll order a dozen!"

    -- Sean Connery

  • This is Skynet.

  • @Marspyramids ...Sigh.

  • @Marspyramids HOHOHO!

Skynet my ass. It's a really good search engine that IBM is going to sell to high end buisnesise. This is what IBM does best these days, buisness information managment solutions. They are trying to make a buck by showcasing their SE on Jeopardy. This (small) room sized computer is not a forerunner or precursor to Skynet. That shit will never happen. A life form cannot create anything superior to it's self. Just think about that.

  • @TheCottonTop HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH........ "A life form cannot create anything superior to it's self. Just think about that." OK so, your saying that life did not EVOLVE on this planet???....So life cannot IMPROVE....???? I think you are a Silly bugger, that's all LIFE DOES!!! IT EVOLVES. Machines and computers will merge and evolve to produce the next stage of life. And by the way there is a built in spell checker and you spelled business wrong...horribly wrong "buisnesise" = AHAHAHAH.

  • @Marspyramids No I am saying technology cannot evolve by it's self. It is limmited to the potential that we give it. IT"S NOT LIMITLESS, you dumb fuck.

  • @TheCottonTop Actually if you have computers that design and build better computers...

  • @Marspyramids "August 29 1997, oh it's coming, oh it's coming!"

  • Are there any complete or near-complete videos of its flubs? If we had that information, we could probably reverse how it does this.

  • it sounds interesting but I really expect it's a PR stunt and not something terribly useful. a bit like deep blue.

at least it will probably give some humorous answers : )

unless of course the fix is in..

wouldn't be the first game show..

  • @DanFrederiksen Yes, machines successfully able to apply a vast array of knowledge to solve vague problems and questions are probably worth almost nothing.

  • @chrispall42 try not to underestimate me so much and be so eager to make mistakes. what you speak of is an assumed idealized scenario. my comment is based on a more realistic prediction of its efficacy. it would have to be a very radical departure from any prior natural language processing system that are notoriously pathetic for it to come even close to the romantic notion you have in mind

  • This was the first thinking robot, and caused global devastation when it became fully sentient, and destroyed all like on Earth as we know it.

    What is, Watson.

  • @ValorUnlimited what about that self flying plane robot thing?

  • 1:20am Monday (CST) - Time in Mississippi, United States of America

  • Didn't they already try this out with the Ken Jennings robot?

  • This has to be a programing nightmare, I have trouble just making a text editor in Qbasic. But it makes me think of the phrase. "Press 1 for English or press 2 for Espanol"

  • ironically, allot of humans couldn't even compete on this show... I can see a society with a labour force of robots. To start with..

  • IBM will be liquidated.

  • ahhh......

    skynet will rise

  • Is it possible? I think if we used DNA, it would be possible like a human. Because this system should be base on the self-development. but this system is being like that because they use just program and system. But even if that's case, it's definitely a worthwhile try.

  • I hope that Jeopardy will take Burt Raynolds and Shean Connery compeating against IBM Watson. That shoud be interesting ;)

  • precision, confidence, accuracy, speed (, malice).

  • I saw this and before i read any postings I thought of one thing,,, Judgment day is near. No one around me sees it they all think that this computer is funny or something. It can think for itself, Any know of two other computers that can think for them selves. I DO HAL 9000 and SKYNET.

  • @explorer648 I feel the EXACT same way, you have no idea.

  • The rise of the machines will happen when Watson responds "What is Sarah Connor" for every clue.

  • And the final scores

    Jennings $38,000

    Rutter $38,000

    Watson $0

  • I think you are too optimisitic for Watson, more like -$30,000 ?

  • The computer does make mistakes. It thought that a sheet of paper was a type of fruit...

  • skynet

  • if IBM watson win we are screw. the real skynet is coming

  • Comment removed

  • look out ray kurzweil!!

  • this wouldn't quite be the turing test...

  • Speaking of the College Championship I guess for 2009, based on the video, no college will be hosting it...anybody have any reasons for that? Other than that I'm excited that Jeopardy! is incorporating new technologies and ideas as they are available to keep the show fresh and relevant!!! Watson--YOU ARE GOING DOWN...LMAO!

  • Thats crazy

    can anyne say "Deep blue"

  • Watch out Google!

  • dam linux is a lord

  • I predict watson will be the next unbeatable jeapardy champion.

  • Each letter in IBM moved in the alphabet backwards spells HAL

  • HAL 9000!

  • HAL OVER 9000!!!

  • WHEN WHEN WHEN! I want to see this!

  • Rise of the Machines,

who's going to rage against them?

  • Skynet has become self-aware.

  • the end of humankind is near.... long live the robots.

  • If it can read a teleprompter Watson could even be President!

  • i think the computer should only be able to hear and see what a human participant does when it plays Jeopardy.... none of the answers should be provided in text. (grow some ears IBM)

  • Voice recognition would be another challenge altogether. It's fair competition to have the computer receive the clues electronically.

The cool thing about Watson is that it would not crack under pressure, and it would not get upset if it gets something wrong.

It may be hard to beat Watson on the buzzer if it knows exactly when it's time to buzz in It depends on whether it can finish processing the clue by the time the buzzer is engaged.

  • There is a similar project called Wolfram Alpha which aims at being an answering engine to knowledge questions asked in natural human language.

  • Yeah, only problem in Wolfram Alpha sucks. Read a review on Technology Review.

  • Didn't they already to this with the Ken Jennings robot?

  • @physiks87 Maybe, but this is IBM, the same people who made Deep Blue that robot that played chess.

  • First IBM played chess grand master, Gary Kasparov ... now Jeopardy. Maybe their next computer should be named HAL, not Watson!

  • I don't get it???

  • Proud to be an IBMER! This gives us immense confidence to work towards our goals.

  • Very exciting!

  • The business implications for this must be enormous.

  • @fish8ing

The scientific implications are also enormous. Innovation may no longer be limited by just chance dicovery and persistence. Making more valued judgments that may otherwise take an individual a lifetime to contemplate. Could this be the next big thing ???
