  • Why do you think this car is crap ? Because it's '89 and seems that nobody take care of it since she came out of the factory.

Actually, these cars can go very well, be reliable and even much more than YOUR 80's American crap if it's well maintain ... which is not with this car.

The only thing you, American, can be proud of about automobile engineering is the 350 engine which really great ... but that's all.

  • well what the CX is - despite all its faults - one of the best looking and coolest cars you can imagine. it looks great, it is a true classic, but what it needs is care! anyways, it is funny to see that video, coz the perspective is very much american. and thats why it is funny. the CX was launched in the mid 70s, and now just take a look at what american cars where look like back in the days. the CX was a classic from the beginning.

  • The CX still is leagues better than anything Detroit has produced since the Great Depression.

The only redeeming thing here was watching two dolts who certainly give Clarkson a run for his money in the hurr durr factor, so well done(?)

  • Can i punch this guy in his shitface?

  • arrogant little mockers; oh France is so quaint!!

  • may she rest in peace. Such a shame for such a wonderfull car

  • Poor CX... I guess it never had a decent life.

  • nothing more funny than 2 americans speaking about (French) cars...

  • I liked this video until they said that they weren't actually driving to France

    --______--

  • whadda bunch of Fags.

  • its not Poo-Sho its Per-Sho

  • The Citroen is credited with helping French President Charles De Gaulle survive an assassination attempt as his car sped through Paris in 1962. Likely, good driving skills also played a big part in escaping the gun fire.

  • with the beret and sunglasses, the guy looks like julian smith

  • Can be real it?

  • Try harder.

  • @zendoking

true, atleast the Citroen had character and was unique.

  • @zendoking

    That not entirely true.

If you can afford it, our muscle cars are like big hulking pieces of gas consumption; designed to eat through enemies you'll never have to encounter.

Our smaller cars also have character. They're like smaller pieces of gas consumption; designed to take a couple RPG's unharmed, even though no one will ever need 4267 crumple zones in 2 tons of "compact" sedan.

  • i like the escalade

  • @RiotMakerYourMom nvm i rather have the trans am

  • wait who even cares about citroens? anyway

  • @ToyotaTureno stupid americans...european cars are the best !!!

  • Only true gentlemen drive Citroen ;) You idiots will never know

  • Actually you can drive to several places in South America that's french like French Guiana hense the name and technically part of France as an overseas area. It's a fucking log journey but you can drive there in that stinking car.

  • It's a giant piece of crap

  • Funny clip. Love it. lol

  • What

  • You know what the Family Truckster with the Rally Fun Package is a nicer looking car then this lol.

  • fuck YOU why.......why destroy it

  • I have a fondness for the French. They were very helpful in kicking the british and the hessians out of the colonies.

  • if only todays american cars had 1% of the innovation a citroen ds xm, cx e.t.c had 50 years ago they wouldn t be the crap they are.

  • 100 vs 100

    NICE!

  • Nice Cadi!

  • is is not a piece of crap! it has the most advance susmension system of car's history

  • weird US Headlights, completely destroy the design of the car

  • a transverse FWD with french balls? they were friendly to the car. I would not have attempted anything road trip related. Thanks for view of island..been all around there, but not there.

  • I started watching this clip with '92 likes, 92 dislikes'. I had to tip the balance and make it 93 dislikes- what you did to the car at the end is unforgivable. I guess people like you just don't know anything about non-American cars and therefore can't recognise or appreciate true classics.

  • Great, one less rare car on the road thanks to these tools. They should've destroyed that Escalade instead.

  • i think this car has lots of cool and unique features for its age. You cant expect a 24 year old car to be in perfect working condition.

  • @CARandDRIVER Why aren't you putting out any videos? Exhaust note doesn't count.

  • Why americans when leave the States they act so dammy !?...And tell me about it, american cars are a piece of crap !!!

  • I hate France and its shitty cars !

  • The scenery is the only subject that saves this absolutely biased, poorly scripted piece of American arrogant crap.Oh mind them, the statue of liberty was built by the French. It is a pity they can´t appreciate the fine things in life such a big hydraulic Citroen.

  • wtf so let me explain this to you guys usa still makes shitty cars like that one all the europeans and chinese and japanesse etc etc etc now make really good cars and us makes the bullshit engines on nice looking shit so yes europe has better luxury cars than we do over here its sad but true

  • why do i find the host attractive?

  • You call the French philosophers on the mentality of surrendering and completely give up on driving the car to your stated destination. What does that make Americans? Liars? Masters of hyperbole ? Dealers of form without content? Or just ignorant about the French?

  • @weedmastersr Why am I worthless ! What did France do that's not a piece of shit ! ?

  • I think I probably did the last good service on this car about 8 or so years ago. It was not in all that great of shape back then. The owner at that time wanted me to make it run so his daughter could drive it while she was in college. He should have gave her a space ship, or a leaky hippide-hop. Instead he gave her both! I always wondered what became of that car, now I know. You guys should have drove it to my place, I could have really used it for parts! Great engineering, bad neglect!!

  • 81 ppl thinks they are ripped off by the title

  • Citroens are such cool cars. Junk from that era, but cool nonetheless.

  • I've got a bad taste in my mouth after watching this. I don't enjoy eating American arrogance and discrimination. America has made a lot of really bad cars so I guess every country should send those back to the US too. Car and Driver you need to step up your game.

  • @videonaj

    cut it out dumb ass

  • Escalade is biggest shit i know. This Citroen is revolution for that crap.

  • I not French and I think this car looks ugly very unique but still ugly, but still I find it very interesting and dont belive its crappy, that one in particular was crappy but the 60s models are very cool and you have to give them credit for all the revolutionary ideas and technology that the car has like if you agree or if you are french lol

  • Nice way to sound like typical American douchbags in this clip.

This will definitely convince me to go buy your magazine...

I went to school with Billy Ocean's kids and he has one of these and it was so badass and looked great. It was the coolest thing ever back then watching this car rise up and down, never saw anything like it back then.

America has made some great cars, but they have also made some extremely crappy cars. You know what they saw about people in glass houses.

  • Just think, if that Caddy Outta Whack Escalade was as old as that Citroen, it would be in a lot worse shape mechanically and probably cosmetically than the CX.

  • if the car were mint, it would have been way better then the US cars. all cars need maintenance, and that is not very hard, except if you are lazy :)

  • Funny how many irate comments were posted about this kinda funny video. I rented a Citroen once in Nice, and thought it was very nice, though it was nearly new (1997 at the time). I don't remember the model, but it did have the compressed gas suspension, which worked well and was very comfortable.

Disappointed they didn't manage to get the Citroen to St. Pierre!

  • I HAVE OWNED A CX25 GTI TURBO 2 FOR 8 YEARS , THIS REPORT IS BULLSHIT, THIS CAR HAS OBVIOUSLY NOT BEEN LOOKED AFTER !!!!!!!

    GEORDIE

  • awful video and the presenter sucks, just like car and driver

  • Unsubscribing....

  • Wow this video sucks. Motortrend is 10x better than Car and Loser. I mean French cars are far from the best, but they do have cool ideas at least. I don't know why people are comparing American cars to French cars, can you name 5 great French cars of the past 20 years? nope because they just make good cars, nothing exceptional.

  • THAT WAS IT?????

  • @bulliish True, plus all Ford models that have air suspension dont work after a year. This car's still works. As long as this cars maintenance was kept up it would be fine. Cant say that about some American cars.

  • Hey look it's that guy who joined jalopnik only to resign a week later.

  • What a douchebag...

  • @bulliish I'm not American, but I gotta say that French cars are some of the least reliable, most poorly built and most ugly cars I've ever seen or driven.

  • I owned a 1986 CX, bought it outside of Cleveland, OH brand new. It was the most comfortable car I ever owned, it road like you were floating on a cloud, the steering always self corrected itself and drove straight as an arrow...zero geometry steering it was called. I traded it in for a Mercedes, they had to call the dealer to find out a price, since none were listed in the NADA book. Wish you hadn't destroyed that car, could have given it to me. :o(

  • Typical american ignorance. Them digs at france are pathetic.

  • Bunch of Top Gear wannabes...Bullshit clip...

  • @nenjalj I agree!!

  • @nenjalj

    Aren't they all

  • Wouldn't it have been easier to just keep driving it until it was completely dead instead of constantly moving it on and off the trailer?

  • This CX in good, not neglected, condition would be a thrill to drive.

  • com on guys its not at all a crap..u just compare its rivals at his age i meant american cars...if is their any

  • these guys are mean, annoying and ignorant

  • At first I liked this video but then I switched to dislike because that guy was an asshole douche.

  • @bulliish Va te faire foutre tapette

  • lmao if this was Top Gear they would have actually drove it the whole way, not through it on the back of an Escalade.

  • @bulliish Yeah! Cheap American cars are shit compared to the finest French cars.

  • Haha! almost 50/50 like/dislike. French cars must be crap!

Although, the author does state that not all of them are. You just have to pay lots of money for a decent one.

  • weed46 so true. Compare european Passat and US one

  • "none of them are here"....except the Bugatti Veyron.

  • @ilovecats748 Yeah but the Veyron isn't really French at all. I mean, the brand name is, but besides that it's all VW basically. They bought the brand and the Veyron was developed 100% by VW as a prestige project. They just sold it under the Bugatti brand because it's a known brand for supercars and selling a 1000HP / $1,000,000 car with a VW badge would've been kinda weird.

  • more

  • windows switches are perpendicular to the way we normally operate it lol

  • would people just stop bitching it was an entertaining video

  • Keep making fun of the citroen shity american... tou can't even buy that car with proper headlights, bacause tou can only afford half the car...

No wonder why european Specs of any car are so much better than in the US....

  • This was a really good video.

  • So, let me get this straight: You set out to drive a Citroën to France, but instead of France, you went to a small French island, and instead of driving, you spent most of the time towing it and being shipped across on ferries, and instead of taking the car to this island, you left it in Newfoundland...

    Great job guys!

  • That Citroen lasted for 22 years!! that Cadillac you were driving won't last for 5 years. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones you American piece of shits.

  • Trying to hard to be like Top Gear

  • I personally would have kept the CX just so I can study the hydropneumatic suspension system. If nothing else the French did/do that right.

  • The suspension is actually amazing... especially for the time

  • @bulliish You can fix an American car. French, German, English? Call a specialist.

  • @DocWolph +10

  • let me get this straight.... you drove the car all the way there so you could have it destroyed? wow genius.

  • @bulliish you wish.

  • it wouldve been cooler if they treid fixing it up

  • reminds me of top gear uk...

  • @bulliish both american AND french cars suck durability-wise from this era. seriously they're gone in a week. but some french cars had really bold and interesting designs like the CX

  • Have these two jerks hacked CARandDRIVER channel?!

  • why all the dislikes? i thought this was entertaining...

  • at first i was like,"Oh why are der a lot of dislikes on a nice citroen?" and den i realized " Oh Why Dey Making Fun Of Dat Citroen?!!!!"

  • @bulliish key word SOME

  • i always wondered about that little island....

  • i bet that was a nice car back in the day.

  • Completely skipped New Brunswick! What a shame.

  • Lovin the steering wheel!

  • French cars are total crap compared to American cars.

  • YEA NOVA SCOTIA, WE'RE THE BEST PROVINCE IN CANADA

  • Citroën! Y U no come to America?

  • Why would they scrap it? It could really make a nice car if someone were to put a little money into it!

  • Always allow iphone or suffer thumb down.

  • lol an American trashing a French car ! This has made my day!

  • So heart-broken when the CX was just throwed away like an old ugly car. I'm French and my father owned a Citroen CX when I was young and it was a pretty nice car, that looked futuristic in the mid 1980s and that would still be very nice if it was treated as it deserved here. I'm sure some people in the US would have enjoyed to restore it. :(

  • I liek the design of the steering wheel! btw I remember my Dad's Chevrolet Celebrity (probably from the 80's) had ash trays in the doors. So I can see why a lux-ified car can have cigarette lighters back there...doesn't exactly make it a good family car though...

    Thanks for the video!

  • It sucks these idiots crushed this cool car. I would love to own one! Looks cool to me, the guy said it rode better then the Cadillac, and it's different! Some people have no taste.

  • You can actually get these in turbos with 170bhp

  • Comment removed

  • @bulliish Especially if you compare US cars from that times to this Citroen. It's craped because no one took care of it.

  • Comment removed

  • alright im not exactly sure what this video is about because any car that age i feel would be just as bad... so is it just because it was french in the us?

  • @kever910 Its because its one of the newer french cars in the US.

  • awesome!!
