Partly true, if you take care of your voice, use good tecnic, rest when needed your voice can last nearly a life time. Some voices get better with age! Other things can effect the voice too like drugs, smokeing, even depression.

Ms. Carey does not get enough rest and some unhealthy "posh" habits takes a toll on her voice. i remember watching her at MTV cribs and she said there that she always has a hard time sleeping. but hey, when Mimi needs to bring it,, she brings it alright!!! :D

her mother was an opera singer so that helps. and not everyone can sing a song exactly the same as they did the first time. example, when aretha franklin came out with "respect" and when she sang it in "blues brothers 2000" she sounded completely different. and by the way the performance in this clip was live. so its not going to sound the same as if you were listening to it on the radio. its still a good song.

it's only partial lipping and I believe she does that to preserve her voice. Doing every inflection and belting every big note and having a 4 month tour performing every other day would ruin her voice. She lipsynchs some belting lines here and there. It's not that big of a deal.

i think mariah lipps live because shes nocturnal, she says it herself that her vocal chords are unlike others, it takes a lot of rest. maybe all those high notes damaged her voice.

I don't think the high notes damaged her voice, time just wasn't kind to her. She can still do the high notes just fine. Sometimes she doesn't need to lip, she just lacks confidence in herself. Everything was live after :51 and she was doing the same kind of belting she lipsynched.

I am the biggest mariah fan. I have seen a better quality version of this performance and it is so live! Trust me! Just goes to show that Mariah still has that heavy vibrato that I thought she lost due to the flat notes in "Stay The Night" and "Mine Again".

i agree with alejandro102690. don't count on it, mariah of course now in 2006 can't sing that cause her voice is worn out, but in the beginning she could. now after her vocal rests. she is back to being her AMAZING SELF.

old songs i think its better she does mime sometimes coz shes just gonna strain her voice. i mean "without you" was at her peak. maybe she just shouldnt sing it at all, but i spose they like to give the audience some oldies. Whitney sings all her old songs but she either just does snippets or she arranges them a bit different. we dnt want mariah straining her voice, Mariah was amazing in the early 90s and still is but every1 is human! shes a diva so its all good!
