In Iraq & Afghan, we bomb them all day and night - yet we can't a hold of their country - winning doesn't mean decimating their forces, it means to have a hold on the country w/ stable order restored. If the country were to be retaken over the moment you left, then everything your forces have died for was fruitless.

well, i guess any military would want to promote itself as baddest of the bad (to say the USA doesn't also pull this type o population programming is totally naive). It should be remembered that the 1 time PLA and the US military faced off (i think also the last time the US faced a comparable adversary), the result was a bloody stalemate. Neither country would want a rematch, i bet. Besides, the US can no longer afford an anti-PLA type military in contemporary, terrorist cell-based conflicts.

It would be a huge stalemate. The Chinese wouldn't be able to get there troops on to US soil. The US wouldn't be able to get their troops or hold their positions on China's soil & bombs, cruise missiles, etc. would eventually run out and be too costly to maintain a daily bombardment.

The Gulf War is a perfect example of what the US can do.
