Yeah, that yellow truck flying 50 ft in the air was really realistic. Everyone swears by this game which makes me want to play it, then I watch footage and see stupid unrealistic shit like this, and makes me happy I don't waste my money on this outdated pile of crap anymore.
@b00mYou No, it's not an "outdated pile of crap". First of all, that clip is over 2 years old; iRacing has improved quite a bit, and the results of hard contact aren't as exaggerated anymore.
But what you need to understand is, during a crash, vehicle physics and damage modeling are interconnected -- how violently a car reacts to being hit depends on how much it deforms upon impact to absorb that energy. With these CRAZY hits being shown in replays, real cars would be absolutely torn apart.
@b00mYou But iRacing doesn't yet model that kind of extreme damage, nor is energy transfer taken into account in the damage model. But that energy has to go SOMEWHERE, so in the case of extreme contact, cars bounce off each other. It's not an indication of unrealistic physics, it's simply the result of a system that doesn't have all the pieces of the puzzle in place yet.
But what sim DOES represent collisions realistically when there's a HUGE disparity between the speed of the two cars?
@ilikebumfluff As i said to okitroid, if you prefer gt5 to iracing thats fine. But last night I did a nascar event and it's sealed the deal for me. Iracing is so superior physics wise that theres almost no comparison. Daytona on gt5 is pathetic, there are no bumps at all, and the ffb is rubbish. If you havnt already tried racing a stock car round daytona on iracing, you should. The bumps on the corners are brutal, it is very difficult to hold a high or low line. It's simply brilliant. Try it ;)
@jammydodgerman the other 800 standard cars admittedly don't look as good as the 200 preemium, but they're still a cut above that of Iracing's. Furthermore, that's what I meant, not all RWD handle the same as each other, nor do all the FWD. If you keep understeering, it's more likely how you're driving it rather than the physics of the game. I have had no such trouble when driving cars in this game.
@ilikebumfluff please refer to my newest comment to okitroid... And yes I do know about driving real cars, I have a driving licence and have been driving for several years now. I have also been rally driving in a FWD car and a RWD car so know all about the handling charecteristics of both, and in particular how to transfer the weight on the wheels of the car. each of iracings cars are completely unique. theres not of this copy and paste feel to the cars' handling.
'the graphics aren't even that good' <-- this statement by you serves to invalidate your opinion because it is completely wrong. It has very good graphics in fact. Furthermore, the fwd and rwd cars don't all handle the same. If you can't tell the difference then you have no right to judge realism in any way. Sure the online is laggy sometimes but consider you're paying $99 for this game, whereas people end up investing $500+ in iracing. In terms of value gt5 is better
@okitroid nope, not the ingame graphics, they are a big disappointment. Look at the cars, theres 1000+ in total, but only 200 of them have incar views and higher detail. The other 800 look like they are from the PS2. I didnt say that FWD and RWD cars handle the same. I said that all RWD cars handle the same as each other, they always oversteer. FWD cars they always understeer. It feels like polyphony have taken a few handling setups and just copy and pasted to cover all the cars.
@ilikebumfluff lol. have you ever been on iracing? im guessing not. So you cant possibly compare iracing to gt5. I have both and have played on both. GT5's physics are shit compared to iracing's. I cant believe it took polyphony digital 5 YEARS!!!!! to make such a let down of a game...
@jammydodgerman Iracing is a better physics simulator, but it doesn't seek out to simulate the driving experience in any other way, unlike gt5. A simulator is not supposed to be limited to purely the physics, but the overall experience. In such a way, gt5 proves to be a better simulator overall, its graphics allow for a more realistic feel to the game, the variety of cars and modes also mean it provides realism with more scope.
@okitroid loool. I have GT5 and have played it extensively. You dont have to explain GT5 to me i know what it is about. The driving physics are boring, front wheel drive cars all handle exactly the same, RWD cars handle exactly the same. The graphics arent even that good and the nascar... was... shit. The online multiplayer, dear god that was crap, lag all the time even with a good connection. iracing is just so much more realistic and the graphics are adequate, they do the job. iracing> GT5
@ilikebumfluff erm yes. I have played iracing and gt5 and there is no comparison. iRacing blows shitty gt5 out of the water. Your brain cant be working if you think gt5 is better...
wow i LOVE the realism!!! WHOA DID U SEE THT CAR SPRING 100ft IN THE AIR?!?!?! OMG THT ALWAYS HAPPENS!!!! AND I LOVE BLINKING EFFECT!!! JUST LKY THE REAL THING!!!!!!!!
Ow. Out of the ballpark pwnage. I'd hate to be the guy "driving" that one.
As for the realism of it, it's to be expected with simulations. I can recall seeing airborne "cars" and "trucks" in the old Papyrus sim. I even recall one or two instances where one got stuck in mid-air as if it were pinned there.
I race iracing and I will say it is the most realistic simulation game ever. However this is only true when everybody is driving in a predictable race line. When people start crashing the damage engine ruins the physics. IE. In this video the 12 truck would have compacted more rather than soaring like its Flight Simulator!!
are u trying to say that iracing is unrealistic??? this happens at lowes all the time!!! just ask mike skinner!!!!!!!!!! :D hahaha its a joke, let me remind everyone that before they take my comment too seriously...
I used to play N2003. Is this the main racing game everyone is playing now? I tried EAsports 2005. I thought the car felt way cool but the tracks really sucked. I was just wondering what everyone went to when Papyrus pulled the plug.
@fish998765432 This. I don't understand the "X is a racing game not a crashing game" argument. Last time I checked crashing was a part of racing. I shouldn't have to avoid cars bouncing around like goddamn pinballs in "the most realistic racing sim ever".
@fish998765432 I know your comment is two years old but I'd rather them perfect the driving and handling aspect of the simulation before the crashes. It's a driving simulator more than it is a crash simulator.
How do you avoid crashes ahead of you when cars are fucking flying like space ships, flipping, warping, and blinking in and out like fucking traffic signals? Assclown.
its a part of online racing, its happened to the best of sims.. but for a racing sim that is still in development and will be for a couple of months it takes a mature patient person to realize that if you were makking this sim your first priority would be to have the best racing physics instead of the best crashing physics.. dale jr probably tests at places to work on setups, not drives backwards to see how cool it is to crash..assclown
We're talking more about netcode here you fucking dimwit. The same issues have existed since beta at least. Getting basic software functions, such as networking operating efficiently should have been among the very first priorities, before any development of the racing aspect of the software.
