I recently finished secondary school and got accepted into Medicine school, having literally the highest academic marks in my state. Though you seem highly educated and informed, I would suggest you not to give any advice which may be seen as "medical advice". The rationale for this is that I've heard of people getting into all sorts of legal trouble because of this. It's up to you though, but just be careful. Good video. :-)
You've gone a long way, usmedstudent, and now you deserve the title "Medical Doctor." Kudos to your persistence and passion, and congratulations to the class of 2011!
I recognized your face in HMS's Focus newsletter, which prompted me to write this comment. What a journey it has been; it almost seems like yesterday when you were just a first year med student. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with the world. God Speed to you and your endeavors.
i am also a high school senior and next year i will begin my pre-med courses. ive already begun to study various aspects of health sciences. i do hope that you continue to post videos. thanks
My comment was just an evaluation from one peer to another! Hopefully he'll improve on his speech and give people more detail infos and advices. Don't you worry, what I said will not ruin his spirit and passion for medicine and educating the public! If you enjoy watching it, then you keep on watching it! Keep learning kid!
not sure if this is the right approach to making a channel like this on youtube. perhaps you can focus more on your medical school experience rather than on things that you might not be an expert on just yet...
I'm sorry to say this but these videos seem a bit arrogant. I think that disseminating health information as an M1 is a bit premature. As your training continues you will realize that those nice little packets of knowledge that you get your first year are just the tip of the iceberg!
And my teacher wants me to take AP biology in 10th grade, but id also have to take chemestry with it. Will i miss out on AP bio if i havnt taken chem yet?
not only can my 81 year old aunt not walk she cannot stand up. Her leg muscles have literally wasted away. She has neuropathy in her feet and hands. From everything I have read (including Dr. Graveline's website) it seems like these could be the side effects of a statin drug.
Thanks for your message. I'm not familiar with Dr. Graveline -- what does he say? I have heard that there are four studies out there suggesting an association between taking statins and having lower CoQ10. I don't know how good those studies are -- what has your grandmother's doctor said?
usmedstudent...It feels like I have something stuck in my throat, it's not food...I can eat breath and talk fine, but it's REALLY anoying! Any idea what it is??? thanx.
hi lizardking352 -- can you explain a bit more? is it allergy? are you having trouble breathing? if you are, then definitely immediately go to see your doctor.
No, I have really bad anxiety, so I tried a new pill and it made my whole throught dry up. It is better now though, but do you have any EXPERT advice about anxiety/panic attacks???
Hi, I'm sorry to hear about your anxiety. Unfortunately, I don't have any expert advice on this topic. I understand how it must be very frustrating though. Will you be able to see a doctor?
There is a new medical student in California that gives preference to veterans, its called Stewart university new scotland international school of medicine
Hi Razwell, Thank you for your time! There's a very interesting letter speaking to your point by Dr. Abramson, published in the Lancet, titled "Are lipid-lowering guidelines evidence-based?" Vol 369 January 20, 2007. Abramson argues, "Our analysis suggests that lipid-lowering statins should not be prescribed for true primary prevention in women of any age or for men older than 69 years."
This is hella dumb. You're not an expert, you douchebag. There's already someone who's doing what you're suggesting: Ed Friedlander at Pathguy. Your ideas are fuckin' corny, you friggin' nerd. You're just humiliating yourself in front of the entire world. If someone wanted to read a respected journal, why can't they look it up themselves? Why do they have to go through you? God you're stupid! Shut the fuck up! Go back to being a nerd, and stop trying to get famous off of YouTube.
Hey 19TSEliot48 -- thanks for your comment! pointing us to PathGuy. I was looking through some of his links, and this one at John Hopkins, discussing videos about cases seems to be really interesting (for those interested, please google "CPC #1 neoplasia johns hopkins").
As for why I'm doing this: #1) starting conversations and bringing up new ideas. You telling me about Ed Friedlander is great -- I never would've known about him if you didn't mention it.
#2) Most doctors on Youtube have profit-motives. Very few people with no profit motives are posting up information on Youtube. so what you have is a bunch of people marketing their health food, newsletters, protein shakes, surgery clinics, etc... I hope to get people with no profit-motives, to share information -- on Youtube.
#3) You mention Pathguy -- well get him on Youtube then! There's no reason why one has to search and search on google to find pathguy. He should be on Youtube.
#4) Lastly, my dream job is to do clinical trials on nutrition and surgery. To do so, I have to get into residency. To get into residency, I have to primarily work on two things: 1) prepping for boards, and 2) focus on 3rd year rotations. Going onto Youtube won't make me famous, nor will it help me "get" to residency. But I really believe that health knowledge, the kind that could make a difference, needs to be as easily accessed and out in the open as possible.
#5) I've been trying to get more of med student friends and professors to consider posting up videos. Hopefully, by this summer, there will be more people joining me. In the meantime, I'm going to keep posting until more doctors and medical students, who aren't trying to sell a product, come in and fill this vacuum.
I just wanted to let you know that you are doing a great service to prospective students, as a matter of fact, I am thinking of posting up videos as well. I have decided to get into internal and preventive medicine with an emphasis on Gerson diet therapy. Anyhow glad to know you and I will see you on the floor.

It might have something to do with your tonsils. Go consult a respiratory specialist for medical advice.
NuisanceSpirit 4 years ago
EDIT: sorry, not respiratory specialist. Should be the ENT (ear, nose, throat) specialist.

Did you know that the whole anti - cholesterol campaign is a farce?
There is no evidence that LDL CAUSES CHD in any randomized clinical double blinded trial- anywhere.
Please look into Anthony Colpo and DR. Uffe Ravnskov and the scientists at THINCS. Thank you.
