Ok, try for your self. I had the same meaning as you untill I drove a rwd car for about a year. then I got my self a fwd. And that is fucking dangerus. You come in a little slippery turn you wasent aware of. and you will understeer like hell. Of course there is a teqnuiq(spelling?) and depends on the car. But in general, its safer in a rwd becouse inn that turn you wil oversteer and have much more alternatives of how you can control the car. What is fwd efficient? You talking about saving petrol

Actually front wheel drive is safer for several reasons. When your in a high speed situation and you take a corner pretty fast, you have to be able to counter-steer in the rwd (which you better know how to drive), where fwd you can slam it into the corners and ride it out if you have lsd and the right setup. Fwd is more efficient for fuel mileage, lighter in weight, better traction, better in the snow, consists of less drivetrain components..so its not the stupidest thing ever thought of.
