Man i listen to this song everyday, what a blessing, Forever in my heart the King Of Gospel Music,,,rev James Cleveland, , why do the great ones die so young.... God is still good
I thought it was the best version at the time I shot it and certainly having 10,000 voices welped and this is why i put it on the end of his homegoing video
God bless the late Bishop Charles A. Craig III who is KILLING these vocals. He and Clean sing good together. And ya'll shoulda heard Renee' Thomas do He's So Real at this convention!
I agree with Trey341, I can't stop listening to it. My Lord Have Mercy. I want a copy also. I will purchase 2 or 3! God truly broke the mode when he laid the clay on Rev. James Cleveland; what an anointed man of God. There is no anointed voice like his. What a blessing.
When did he pass away I am so sorry to hear that I live in Saginaw and visited Craig Memorial and went to some of the Detroit GMWA Chapter meetings held at the church with the late Rev. Jerry Redeemer. The last time I saw Bishop was @ Rev. Redeemers home going service.
All I know is I cried when Rev Cleveland died, I had a chance to work with him with a group I sung with years ago. I hate to see anybody suffer the way they said he did. My sympathy yet goes out to his daughter LaShone!!! may Rev Cleveland RIP!!! he was one of those old school song writers and I miss the songs that would of been had he yet lived.
Judging from an interview with him I read, I'd say it was at least two years because the last year of his life he'd lost quite a bit of weight, had been on bed rest, and was breathing through a stoma. This footage is probably from '88/'89.
This could be from mid 1990 at the GMWA convention in D.C. His condition had been worsening during 1989 and 1990. He actually collapsed at one point during the 1990 GMWA Convention because of a respiratory problem and had the tracheotomy shortly after. His breathing does sound a lil' labored in this video. There's video here of his last recording from June 1990 and he was noticeably slimmer, but breathing on his own and singing a little. He didn't get the stoma until around October 1990.
Could've been, since that affects the immune system. The article attributed it to esophagitis, which is an acutely inflamed esophagus. For that reason, he hadn't been able to sing on most of his recordings after 1988. He was also sick with other things at the time too, including recuperating from a heart attack and other respiratory problems, possibly lung cancer or emphysema since it was known that he was a smoker.
I believe he was also suffering from throat cancer. Someone once posted on another James Cleveland video that he'd had a vocal cord removed. God bless him to have had to endure so much physically.
Rev. Cleveland came to the GMWA Convention in 1990, in Washington, D. C. He wasn't able to attend the convention because of his illiness. He was taken to a hospital in Washington, D.C. The D.C.delegates took up a nightly offerring to fly Rev.Cleveland back home in a Chartered Medical Airplane along with medical personnel. Rev. Cleveland passed away in 1991. 1990 was my first year as a delegate to the GMWA Convention. I wouldn't miss the convention for anything. His legacy lives on.
thats Rev Richard "Mr Clean" White. He's known w/in the COGIC ministry. He wrote and recorded Accept What God Allows, and worked rather extensively with the late Dr. Mattie Moss Clark. He also wrote The Will of God recorded by Karen Clark Sheard originally some 20+ yrs ago.
@529068 Rudolph Stansfield (sp?) gets most of the credit for this one. I have heard many say him and Whitfield collaborated though. Album credits list Rudolph though

It,s a good thing you came to the 1990 GMWA Convention because you would not have got the chance to see the king for the last time.
