  • Peter Cook is by a country mile the funniest Englishman ever his talent never diminished he got older and like Fry says there is no room for any sympathy Peter had a great life and a great wife and he had private eye and did lots of fun jobs like this one, Cook is one of the best people I have watched in my life. I am working class and we all loved him growing up

  • jess tried and died... hahahaha

  • Lovely stuff

  • I think this programme aired in 1994, shortly after Cook got married again and shortly before he died. His talent did diminnish through the years, didn't it! Peter Cook: How I wish we were here with you now. Unbelievable genius.

  • haha classic...when was this show aired?

  • His characters lived and breathed. You'd imagine they really did have their own existence. Brilliant.

  • I remember watching this when it was originally aired!

  • I nearly died laughing when this show first went out (circa 94) - All 4 characters literally back-to-back. Not only was he a profoundly funny man, but he was an exceptionally gifted character actor.

    A true genius :)

  • I remember watching and thinking, wow! this will always be one of TV's greatest moments.

  • Just watching Cook at work is a drama masterclass every time. I love all of his work :)

  • Stunning!

  • Clive Anderson is a wooden dullard

  • @spotlitekid1You're wrong. Clive, like Peter, was Cambridge educated. Clive was a lawyer and his comebacks are both spontaneous AND carefully considered at the same time and you can see that he always has an enthusiasm with it too. That is a skill. Clive frequently provides some of the punchlines in these sketches - his timing is great. Like when he says 'if then' to Peter Cook's line and then, at the end, 'Well, yes or no would be handy'. Clive's dry delivery complements and aids Peter's lines.

  • Fantastic...they guy was an utter genius and a lesson to those who THINK they are as good as this today?

  • well said.

  • Clive Anderson is no Dudley Moore

  • what does that supposed to mean?

  • Who the fuck said he was, you fucking stupid cunt.

  • brilliant mate

  • bloody hell, peter cook fantastic. peerless. I can hear all kinds of rock stars he is parodying. not much comes close. funny as fuck. sail on peter. xx

  • It's interesting that he says about there being a big gig 'for the environment in 2004'. He was nearly right, what with Live 8.

  • I know what he's talking about....

  • Agree with all the praise. Peter was...is...brilliant. I say this as a kid who heard the LPs of 'Not Only..but Also' etc....etc..Cook was just.... a genius. I remember watching this live in the 90's and thinking/laughing: 'Fan-f**ing-tastic- where's the comedy gone!' Best half an hour of comedy in 20 years!

  • Great Stuff, I remember recording this in the 90s on VHS and watching it often. sadly they got lost somewhere. Is it available on DVD as I would love to get it back. Peter Cook on top form. ;)

  • Me too. Watched it heaps. Leant it to a mate - never to be seen again!

  • "remember kids, don t take drugs and sleep with loads of of women, just say erm.... maybe"

    lol

  • i have all his albums..genius

  • The Henry Ford Clinic! Its a much tougher regime, you have to build a car before they let you out!!!! lmao

  • Yeah we heard you fuckwit. we don't need you to repeat it.

  • I think someone is missing the spirit of this website. Can we not turn it into the usual boring cus & rant fest that seems to blight peoples enjoyment of genius? Sorry, I've gone & done it myself. Get back to me if you can offer something worth reading, aarrggggggggggghhhhh - again, stop it!

  • no. genius

  • well said wilsparky, that's why most people will remain sheep because live stevolution66 will allow cunts to spit on their face and say thank you sir.

  • Thanks Pete. So sorry your personal life was so difficult. You and Dud made a heroic contribution to British comedy.

  • I haven't seen this for years. I recorded it when it was first shown and watched it over and over. Pure genius. 'Just say, mmm maybe'.

    I LOVE IT! Priceless.

  • Great clip, i was laughing even before he spoke.

  • Hilarious & Amazing as always, the saddest loss this country has seen in a long time, but this is so damn funny =] Cookie ftw =]x

  • Pete don't pretend your dead. You owe £24.00 at the pub. And I want my wife back.

Dud say's hello in an ethereal way.

Having said that you are still a cunt...

  • You obviously have no clue...Peter Cook was a genius, he didn't get his own show because he was too dangerous, the bbc couldn't be sure what would have come next. This was a chat show where he appeared as all 4 guests, it was mostly ad libbed with Clive Anderson having the briefest idea what each of the characters backgrounds were. It was a truly amazing moment when it was broadcast. Your comment about the Osmonds and Letterman just demonstrates what a lack of taste in comedies you have.

  • I know he was a genius. I was commenting on (and quoting) Mr Merseygroup's spelling!

  • He's laughing up at this from hell. Cook probably would have said the same himself!!!

  • Shut it you illiterate prick!

  • GENIUS

  • Cook is in a class of his own. An underappreciated true comic genius. The variety of his characters are so funny in very subtle ways. I remember seeing this programme for the first time and thought then and still do that this is the best comedy I had ever seen.

  • Why did he stop playing the piano?

  • merseygroup, you are a berk

  • Doctor Boosh is right, you spamjockey.

  • Yes, it's a script that Peter Cook wrote.

    You fucking twat!

  • merseygroup is obviously a fuckwit. And cannot spell. Suicide...invest.

  • "oviously" "didnt" "alcolic" "bcc" "lettreman" "pithons"

    ---you useless, illiterate chav.

  • God yes we miss Cook, but I really miss Clive, he's not on much and this show was awesome. Ok the Bee Gess might not like it but then that can only be a good thing ???

  • thanks for this !

peter cook is great, for me the king of comedy. he has inspired so many of our current breed.

    many thanks

  • "Alpalachello"!!! Haha, that's the funniest part, notice how the camera cuts off, as he starts to break and laugh.

    Simply the best!

  • "No, that was vocals" - Genius!

  • I love It!

  • god we miss him!!

  • the line about drugs - 'mmm, just say maybe' - what a quote!

  • Listen to his stuff with Dudley as the characters Derek and Clive later on. Just genius!!!! Master of Improv, hugely intelligent, and so different to anyone else around at the time. There would be no Monty Python or any of the great British alternative humourists but for this man!!

  • Eric Daley Rocks !

  • "I should never have played Edward the Confessor" lol

  • The funniest thing I've ever seen!:):):)

  • Classic Cookie at his best.
