  • i fuckin LOVE John Arch's voice... I melted copy after copy of Awaken the Gaurdian on cassette (from too much play) back in the day

  • Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • GOTTA say Im loving that they're coming out again I hated being the only kid growing up knowing who FW was and idolizing them.

  • Symphony X is poo compared to Empaligon or GoatPenis! Fucking faggots and their comparisons! JOHN ARCH IS METAL FUCK YOU ALL!!!!

  • arch matheos is a masterpiece..arch kicks ass like the old school days, ray alder is still an amazing singer, redemption's new cd also kicks ass,new fates cd on 2012 with ray.arch matheos live in kit fest and who knows where else..i mean..why the hell we fight if alder is better from arch or the opposite when this is one of the most happiest periods for us fans seen the fates community being so active?alder is a god so does arch..RESPECT

  • OMG! This song is like the heavier, updated version of my favorite Fates song, Exodus, from Awaken The Guardian! Arch's vocals are still incredible, and mixing the classic lyrics from Exodus with the powerful music is like the true 80's prog metal is back, in a way not seen since Night On Brocken.

  • Fates Warning album number four.

  • Mathoes sounds great. They should of had Joe Dibiase on this release I think.

  • also check out Fates Warnings Awaken The Guardian..killer stuff

  • cojed al que canta y madarlo a tomar viento un rato

  • ok? how the fuck can anyone like archs voice? its so fucking whiny

or is it some kind of fucking acquired taste? id go with falaschi (angra), labrie, russell (symphony x) or karevik (7th wonder) any fucking day

  • @Utubesuxmycock - URMOMSUXMYCOCK!!!!!!!

  • @Utubesuxmycock I'm a fan of all those vocalists actually... none of these compare to Warrel Dane or Stu Block... but you know. Though Labrie can be rough.

Also the reason people like Arch is because he's very distinctive... very different as well to Ray Alder (Fate's Warning, Redemption) who replaced him.

But yeah, it is a bit of an acquired taste... certainly can't complain about his ability to hit notes though

  • Damn, John sounds just as good as he did 20 years ago. Fuckin amazing.

  • When I first heard this song I couldn't figure out why I liked it so much. John Arch sounds "horrible" yet amazing at the same time. To my wife, his vocals are like nails on a chalkboard apparently. The vocal melodies are so infectious that I can't get them out of my head! It's brilliant! Reminds me of when I first heard Warrel Dane sing.. at first I always wished Nevermore had a better singer but now I see his voice as being amazing and perfect for them. Metal can be strange sometimes :)

  • I have to admit that I have never listened to Fates Warning before. I have been a Dream Theater fan for many years. Just found this album here today, and will definitely be buying it from Itunes! Sounds "Awesome" ! Thanks for putting up these videos. You Tube is where I find all my new music.

  • @ConcBL7LukasR You have to pick up The Spectre Within. You will not be disappointed.

  • @TheMetalCollection , Thanks for the tip, I will definitely check it out!

  • Have John Arch's solo CD which Jim played on. It's fantastic. Guess Jim got enough positive feedback to do another collaboration.

  • I cannot find this album ANYWHERE

  • why would you guys remove the full version from youtube? its no longer on here, and I cant imagine who else would do that.....

  • Finally..say what you will about John...his phrasing is incredible.

  • vocals = just above UGH, musically decent.

  • @904PinballZine you obviously dont listen to real prog ;)

  • Total and Complete Kick ASS...

  • :O This is amazing. What a voice.

  • Arch makes the difference among tons of prog albums

  • this is the 8 day i keep listening to this album alone the whole day ,even when i go out i got it in my mp3 player. Already ordered the vinyl LP. What a fuckin' masterpiece,if a was in a magazine i would give it a 20/5!

  • It's already my album of the year !!! Greetings from Germany !

  • An ophthamologist is an eye specialist, you fool.

  • @Italvina This well was my mistake about the ophthalmologist, but it was an otologist, but not worn john arch at all! was a terrible mistake that you and your untrained ear!

  • @Italvina besides the old Fates Warning had sharpest tuning (from the time of ''night on''broken''to ''awaken the guardian'') and in this album is dominated by major tunings, you have to take into account that, according to sing the compositions!

  • @Italvina With age everthing degrades, trust me.But give this guy credit, he took care of his voice box,so that today he could still hit the high notes.Unfortunately unlike Ray from Fates Warning, regret to say, who thought he was the king of the high notes and for a few brief years he was.Untill he started to smoke the Marlboroughs back in the 80's.Only now,Ray, has managed to clear his lungs to somewhat decent levels.Hat's off to this guy, Ray could only wish he never had smoked in his life.

  • @Italvina You seem to you that john arch is vocally tired?mmm when you've heard john arch your! Never! This vocally intact as in their best times of "the spectre within" and "awaken the guardian"!!! You see an urgent need to an ophthalmologist!

  • Really guys!? I can't hear the music over your bitching!

  • Guys! Its not whose the voice is best...Its whose Voice u like more...

  • @MyMytalMajesty

    yes 2nd uncle

  • I honestly don't see why you people like Arch so much... He has a very nasaly, high pitched, obnoxious voice. I think Alder is a much better vocalist. Nothing against this album though, it is superb instrumentally.

  • @KyleJPie10

......listen to the "Awaken The Guardian" album! He`s magic at less "harder" songs.

  • @KyleJPie10 Nasally?.............!!??? tinnitus?

    Alder doesn't even come close.

  • @bonfireNY Arch is Mediocre at best... he has range I suppose. But there's a huge lack of control and vibrato. Sounds very unprofessional. Compare both Arch and Alder in their primes, Alder wins by light years. Now, they're both washed up and pretty shitty.

  • Comment removed

  • @KyleJPie10 Arch has plenty of range, vibrato and control in his voice and is hands down one of the greatest singers ever in prog metal. Alder? Not so much. but to each their own. I always find it funny that Alder fan boys find it necessary to bash John Arch, why not go on some Redemption videos and say good things there instead of posting negative remarks on JA vids trying to convince everyone that knows John Arch is an awesome singer otherwise?

  • @bonfireNY Subjective I suppose... I wouldn't say I'm an Alder 'fanboy'. I simply just state what I hear. I'm not a huge fan of Fate's Warning or Redemption, although I do enjoy a few songs. This is honestly a completely unbiased opinion considering I have no hard feelings for either of them. As I said, I'm just stating what I've heard from both... and nowadays, they're both washed up. Alder in the late 80's to mid 90's had one of the most brilliant voices to ever grace planet earth.

  • @KyleJPie10 Your loss then, as John Arch - in the 80's AND TODAY still has one of the most brilliant voices to ever grace planet earth, and there are many who agree. Jim Matheos wouldn't be "wasting his time" so to speak if he didn't think JA was talented. The resulting project is hands down the best prog metal album in decades.

  • @bonfireNY Subjective once again. And I never said I had anything against the album. I love it. I'd give it 3rd place for new prog metal albums this year behind Dream Theater's and Symphony X's new albums. But hell, I'm just throwing out opinions like you.

  • @KyleJPie10 Arguing who's "better", certainly that's subjective of course. Matter of opinion. However, stating that John Arch is "washed up", has no range, control, or vibrato in his voice, or is a bad singer is LUDICROUS. cheers.

  • @bonfireNY I couldn't find the post you are responding to, but am I getting this straight? SOMEONE DOESN'T LIKE JOHN ARCH?? And considers Jim "wasting his time"? LOL OOF! This to me will be Fates Warning album number four. =)

  • @KyleJPie10 ah shut the fuck up,this vocals here are brilliant and special, he sings it in a way nobody other can do. Ok nobody beats Russel Allen from Symphony x, but thats another topic

  • @Nightcrawl6 Russell is my personal favorite vocalist as well. But I think Arch is obnoxious.

  • Arch is still travelling to Arcana... It must be a magical place...

  • Reminds me too much of Dream Theater..... and I don't like them either.

  • I'm not much of a progressive fan, but I'm a big fan of Arch's singing. His stuff is some of the few things I don't get off of a torrent site. Support your favorite artist!

  • possessedbymetal.......from one metal head to another.... I search alone dark the night deep the blackest forest, across the devils hopyard, on my way from Salem, I lit a fire. magical brimstone sparks, ashes from the hazelwood, dancing with the banshee, rose up ftom the sky......... Rose Up from the Sky........ARCH/MATHEOS!!!!!!11

  • My favortie song of this album.....which is basically a new Fates Warning album

  • all the people who are gonna really appreciate this are all in their early 40's.

  • @fatesrush So true. Made me lol. I'm 43.

  • Comment removed

  • @fatesrush I'm in my mid - late 40's so HaHa

  • @fatesrush ..haha....42!!

  • Check out Anibus Gate's album:"The Detached",song: "Lost in Myself". It's a good thing they turned away from their power metal nonsense and went more technical with prog....looks like they changed singers too...

  • Anibus Gate is another great prog album..technical,intelligent with great musical planning and organization with a great singer front man(high pitch is excellent).Worth checking out, all of you out there in prog world....

  • i wanna have a library full of metal albums instead of books

  • comparing Alder to Arch is like comparing Rob Halford to Geddy Lee... Alder has more range. . i love Lee and Halford by the way

  • @Dhjrbu

Actually, Alder doesn't have much of a range at all these days, and even in his prime his range was about the same - both topped out around a G, like most metal tenors.

I mean, Alder is still a great singer, but he'd be better if he stopped smoking and stuck to material that suits his voice (i.e. not Redemption).

  • @Dhjrbu more range? not so much.

  • DiBiase should have been part of this in my view.Style fits better

  • Incredible. Haven't even heard the rest of the album and it's already been purchased.

  • @shotgunfacelift14 Yeah, I couldn't wait either so I bought the download version from Amazon. My CD's usually get ripped and put away anyway.

  • I will buy this,I haven't bought a Fates Warning album since I made the mistake of buying that pile of hamster shit disconnected, perfect symmetry wasn't exciting either nor was parallels,no exit musically was ok but would've been awesome with Arch Fates Warning singer #1 and the staple that got them noticed in the first place.

  • @blitzspeer Parallels, APSOG and inside Out are amazing Adler albums, FYI. Just as good as anything with Arch. Now with Jims new heavier prog infuences coming through, Fates CD w/Ray in 2012 will be amazing, guaranteed.

  • @liquifex

APSoG is one of my favorite albums, but to say it's as good as anything with Arch is silly. *Nothing* is as good as Awaken the Guardian and The Spectre Within.

  • My God i've been waiting for this since the late eighties......This was fates. If you werent their then you can't comment. I will always respect Ray since his days with Sirus till Fates. It was a different time when Ray joined. I love both versions of fates. Two differnt bands two differnt times......Much respect!!!!!!

  • This j800r is 25 years old,I was listening to my favorite band Fates Warning in high school when his mom was pushing him out.Arch is a metal octave master and would've damn sure made parallels a better album than it was,Alder always sucked he was a hard rock singer he would have been good in Keel or maybe Giuffria.I hate guys that come around with self made knowlege about what is better when they weren't even at the beginning with the subject. They would've always had Arch but he hated the travel

  • Can anyone imagine how epic No Exit would've been had they employed Arch for the vocals and Parallels too.

  • @blitzspeer He wouldn't have been able to handle Parallels. It's too mid-range for him. No Exit was written with him in mind, but then he got the boot cause he refused to quit his day job. I find it more impressive how well a job Ray did considering it was an album written for Arch and Ray's tone is not as naturally high as Arch.

  • At long last John Arch has returned!

    I think we've got Fate's Warning back!!!

    \m/

  • @mpnickisher dude, give it up. Ray Alder is the Fates Warning vocalist. It may not be the same and I respect if you don't like the direction the band went in, but way more albums were recorded with Ray. More than enough to cement him as the voice of Fates Warning. It's disrespectful to expect John to be Fates vocalist after Ray's given so much to them. New Fates album next year I think. Ray on vocals.

  • @j800r no disrespect to Mr. Alder at all he rocks I'm just so happy to hear John again...

  • @mpnickisher I know what you mean there. I saw the album was released and spazzed out and immediately purchased on iTunes!

It's just for him to be Fates Warning vocalist Ray would have to be fired and that would be extremely disrespectful to him after he's given so much to the band all these years. Alder is Fates Warning, John Arch is completely his own entity. That's way Arch/Matheos works so much better.

  • I also highly recommend buying the CD. All of you that have fallen in love with your iPods and MP3 players are missing out on serious sound quality. You can compress music to fit it all on an SD card but you lose major quality.

  • @crusher0427 The average person wouldn't notice the difference. iTunes AAC format at 256kbps is still really high quality. Listening through earphones or on big speakers I don't notice a difference to my CD collection and I'm a musician so for the average consumer it wouldn't matter and means instant purchase.

  • Jim Matheos is an incredible song writer. Arch takes some getting used to. I fell in love with Fates with Ray back around Parallels and wound up getting the entire collection. I still think Disconnected is my favorite album, and Still Remains is a masterpiece. That being said, this album is amazing. I was sad Zonder wouldn't be a part of any future projects as he is amazing, but Bobby is a wonderful replacement. Three great albums released the same day with this, DT, and Anthrax.

  • @crusher0427 I actually prefer Ray as well. He has more variety to his voice. I agree about Matheos being a legendary songwriter. Have you heard Redemption though? Ray Alder's other project? If you love tracks like Still Remains you'll LOVE Redemption. Especially tracks like Memory.

  • @j800r I have actually heard, and seen Redemption. They opened for Dream Theater once and I wanted to hear what was in store. Pretty good stuff, although I don't own any of their catalog. Maybe I'll give them another chance.

  • @j800r

Ehhh. Still Remains is a great song, but that's because Alder is good at melancholy stuff. Redemption has never done anything for me (excluding their debut album, which is pretty good) because Alder simply doesn't do aggressive vocals well. They seem to constantly be trying to be some sort of modern power/thrash/prog fusion but cringeworthy sappiness in the songwriting and Alder's mediocre vocal performance repeatedly stop it from working.

  • Oh and this song is almost 14 minutes on the album.

  • Got the cd. It was worth the 20 year wait. This is just beautyfull music.

  • Hey dudes of Metal Blade records, will this album be available on spotify? It should be, in Europe no one buys records anymore, we have spotify in our Hi-fi systems, on our mobile phones and on our iPads.... Think about it.

  • Never heard of the guys before, even though I have listened to Fates Warning a bit.

John Arch is awesome! Stumbled upon their project album via Bobby Jarzombek videos.... I will buy the record, if it ever makes its way to Sweden, the guys can thank Bobby and his Youtube TV-channel for that ;-D

  • Album of the Year. Period.

  • Cool music (Matheos has always been a hell of a riff writer), cannot dig the vocals at all. Arch is too nasal and sticks to the high range way too much. That said, kudos for still being able to do so at his age; I prefer Alder's voice type, but he's definitely lost a lot of range.

    Also, Bobby Jarzombek /m/

  • John Arch sounds fkn incredible I wish more singers would take care of there voice the way has!! He's gotta be pushing 50!!

  • Sounds good.

  • I bet you money,John Arch DOESN'T SMOKE.Unfortunately for Ray(Fates Warning)-he started to lose his voice in 1989 due to all those Marlboroughs.6 years ago we all thought he lost his voice,he couldn't hit ANY high notes and wouldn't even touch the mid range. His voice has now improved-Thank God!!Hats off to John, who, by what we hear, has put his voice a priority and possibly never touched a cigar in his life!!James Labrie too, though he is now limited too, from vocal cord damage back in 1992.

  • @jackmarsilva

    what are you talking about?

ray alder did perfect symmetry in 89.

more than 50% of the songs are in high notes.

that album will never be outdone imo.

  • @fatesrush - I agree what with Jack said but yea he certainly didn't lose any vocal ability at all until not only after Perfect Symmetry, but after Parallels He started losing it around 92 and when it came time to record Inside Out it was quite apparent to all that he couldn't hit the highs anymore. It's almost as if Ray was 2 different singers from his first 3 records and those after. He absolutely killed it on No Exit, PS and Parallels. Cigarettes certainly played a big role in that.

  • @fatesrush Perfect symmetry is a great album so is no exit but theres something about John Arch that makes perfect sense with this music. Maybe its just me.

  • WOOoooowwwww.....

  • YES!!! The return of John Arch! His voice sounds as epic as ever.

  • YESSS !!!! ARCH MATHEOS ARE BACK !!!

  • I'M SO HAPPY, The voice of the universe is back. I bet I have listened to Awaken the Guardian about 1 billion times at least over the years. Thank you John.

  • This is the best prog album I've heard this year.Phenomenal release.

  • Im still waiting for the cd to arrive and i must have heard this song about 200 times by now.

  • Bands just keep using DKFH instead recording live drums....

    This sucks!

  • @pedromau Dude, that's not DKFM, that's Bobby Jarzombek aka a human drum machine.

  • @pedromau Can't tell if trolling or not .. that is the master Bobby Jarzombek .. you know, brother of legend Ron .. etc.

  • This is great. I mean, I'm a huge fan of Ray Alder, but this is like we get two Fates Warnings....how f-ing cool is that?! This song kicks ass..

  • @jubileetwist well said comment.

2 fates warnings, can't beat that.

i can't believe how great johns voicestill sounds.

    look out...the guardian has awoken!!!

  • All the songs have been blocked by Rico Management I allready ordered the cd but why cant someone listen to the tracks on youtube? Might get more people into this awesome project.

  • @cortarelva - EXACTLY! many Prog Rock and Prog Metal bands could get MORE exposure if the public could have access in uploading songs by obscure bands :/. Cant wait to purchase this album, wayyyy too long for another blessing from Johns voice and FW (New FW in 2012 with Alder too :D).

  • WOW this just gave the shivers its THE VOICE.

  • This is great, John is unique and rocks, so happy to hear it again! I used to live in Newbury Ma. Anything good is hard to find. I actually like not being able to find something in a music store. If you do, it sucks! That's a weird, sick, yet proven rule these days!

  • LaBrie is a vocalist that i admired when i first heard images and words. But nothing compares to JOHN ARCH. His emotion in his singing style is not comparable. When I heard the album The Spectre Within I was Hooked. Nothing compares to John. Sorry LaBrie

  • Damm, Newbury Comics stores in New England, dont have this cd yet... anyone found it around here somewhere else?!?!

  • My favorite singer from my teens. I get chills the same way I used to when listening to "Guardian" off of Awaken the Guardian when listening to this album. Amazing gift we got today!!

  • Wow! Arch is like not even a day has passed since Awaken the guardian days!

  • John's voice hasnt changed after all these years. Wow. I guess this is what Fates would sound like today if Arch was still in it. (I do prefer Ray tho)

  • John's voice is not for everyone; I like it because of the cool melodies he comes up with , but I do realize that every now and then he hits some bad notes

I would pick him over any death metal vocalist though, I just can't get into the screaming or growling they do at all

  • Just heard the whole CD. I have been a fan of John Arch since I was 17. His singing has inspired me and is dear to my heart. His singing style is very unique. I love this CD. It is amazing. Fuck all of you who don't like it. When i first heard The Spectre Within I thought his singing stlye was differnent. Then i was hooked. Labrie is a very typical vocalist. Just average. Don't compare. Hai JOHN ARCH. THANKS.

  • Just through the whole album now. I don't know. It's not the claimed century-piece but Jim and the drummer really put out some magic. John, I don't know. He isn't my cup of tea either. He surely has one hell of a voice but though he has improved a lot, he still tends to begin in the stratosphere sometimes, resulting in a lack of emotional expression. Labrie from DT for example knows that his voice now is far from perfect, but he always tries to make the best out of his restricted abilities.

  • I have now listened to the album. What really stands out is the song writing. It just feels very cohesive. Jim and the drummer put out some magic here. But quite honestly, Arch is a great singer, but he is not my cup of tea either. I mean, Labrie from DT doesn't have a voice like Arch anymore, but in many parts of the album, Arch already begins in the stratosphere resulting in a lack of emotional expression. Labrie has learned to make the best out of his restricted physical abilities.

  • Just got my autographed cd in the mail! AMAZING!!!!!!!!

  • Well the playing is quite good but nothing special...then the singer damn they always ruin good projects/bands, it sound the same as in 70's movie "deliverance" when hillbillies make Bobby or Ed to scream like a pig.

The new DT record is great and gets better every time you listen to it.

Somewhere they told that this A/M is the progrecord of the 2011 by far...well everybody got their own opinions ;)

  • MOOOOOOOOOOAAAARR

  • Arch seems to be forgotten in ancient times, it doesn't seem to fit in the music well, strange hybrid, not my cup of tea

  • It seems like comments are pretty divided between thinking the vocalist is amazing and terrible. I have to say, I think the music sounds amazing but the vocalist is killing my ears dead. I honestly don't think I can't listen to this.

This guy reminds me of Tim "Ripper" Owens in the fact that he has a very specific style that he just can't deviate from. There's no highs and lows here, it just is what it is. I'm honestly curious as to what it is about this guy's vocals that people love so much.

  • Last week I was nagging how John Arch released his EP, teased the shit out of us, and left us prog fans hangin' for over 10 years, while bands like DT and SX were in decline ( catchyness wise ).

Then what happens ? BOOM !!! THE ROPE A DOPE!

    FUCKIN YEAH BABY

  • @LordPatrick123456 you should listen to Iconoclast, last SX's album...brutal!

  • @castorel You should listen to Never say Never, Justin Bieber sure is awesome.

  • @castorel

Hey man ! I actually did ! Loved it, just like the new DT, but there's something missing you know ?

  • holy shit, this came out of nowhere, and its amazing.

  • Hands down one of the greatest singers ever!!!!! The new songs sound INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's like Fates Warning got their balls back!

  • The voice is really bad!!! :P

  • His voice is annoying, can't understand anything he says. Drumming is kick ass though.

  • september is going to be prog heaven. DT, Opeth, Arch/Matheos. DT for some great instrumentals and of course technical playing, Opeth reminding us of the greatness of the 70s (finally without growling), and the names of this project speak for themselves!

  • @Langenscheiss Redemption's new one comes out later in September, too!

  • wicked. Great guitars...and the vox are pure magic (John Arch is so creative and unique)

  • Double awesome, omg! What does it mean??!! This album is going to rule.

  • Jonh Arch is Godlike...I was lucky to have been a regular @ L'amour in Brooklyn when I was 18 'till about my early 20's and saw Arch w/FATES WARNING during his tenure on vocals...He, Jim Matheos, and Joe Dibiase used com an hang out in the audience all the time to see other bands-great bunch of guys. So happy John is back again-a vocal IDOL of mine!!!

  • John Arch sounds exactly like the demo from maybe 10 years ago, which is exactly like he did back in 1984. Nice

  • John Arch rules. This is best news of the year!

  • All the videos of the Metal Blade Account take too long to load

  • Wow.... John Arch sounds EXACTLY the same as he did in the 80's!!! This is effing killer! :-D

  • Kýrie, eléison! The guardian has awoken! \m/00\m/

  • Thank you John Arch, been waiting along time for this. Your voice sounds like you recorded this a week after Awaken The Guardian. Pre-ordered, can't wait!

  • HELL YEAH this is what I miss! JOHN!!!! Heavy sound, blasting my head... damn I can wait for this release! awesome

  • HOLY SHIT! He sounds EXACTLY like he did on Awaken the Guardian! :D

    Have to buy this.

  • damn it, this is released on the same day as DT's album . . . guess I'll have to get both :D

  • Sounds pretty cool to me. I am glad to hear Arch back at the vocals. I was pretty much finished with Fates Warning after he left.

  • See you at Keep It True 15!

This is going to be the best concert ever.

  • @Bjuf amen brother see you there haha!

  • Are you kidding??? You're actually, really playing in KIT? I gotta be there, history is being fuckin' written! But please, please, come to Greece for a gig, you have no idea how much your fans love you here!

  • Is it me or are some of the lyrics lines from old Fates Warning songs, particularly Exodus?

  • @GregoriusRexx I noticed that too.

  • to all diehards feeling kind of dissapointed with this projeckt, you 're wrong......they aged beautifully, especialy john's voice,i crossed my fingers that is rest of album,is like this....just not pleasent shade of bore...please

  • Huge fan of all parties involved...but, I gotta say, I hope this song isn't indicative of the rest of the album. Compared to their glorious past, this is mediocre at best...and, it truly pains me to say that.

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome how the beginning lead melody is echoed in the rhythm guitar at 1:12. Lots of subtle intricacies in this...

  • All hail John Fucking Arch!

  • @buddya01 you know it hail to john arch

  • Frank Aresti is sooo damn good.
