Wonder why Barbara Billingsley got top billing when Hugh Beaumont was a well known star in the 40's and 50's. His name even came first alphabetically. She looked great in that second to last season intro.
Classic show. I wish the kids today had ANY sense of the shows and history that came before them. My nephews have no idea what this show is or My 3 Sons, Dukes of Hazzard, I Dream of Jeannie, etc as these are all old. They were too when I was born in 1967. They have no idea what the shows of the 80s are let alone these classics. Sad. There is somehow a disregard and seperation with this generation of anything that came before them.
I like the final theme, too. They jazzed it up to where you could snap your fingers to it or even dance to it!!!! They need to make a house mix of the final theme! :)
This is a great video - Thanks! Have to agree with all the comments, that car (and June) is sweet. Used to watch it in strip after school every day, and guess how old they would be from the different openings. Really took me back - thanks again.
The only reason I can see for this show being cancelled is that Jerry Mathers had obviously hit puberty by the time the 1962 season came around, and he wasn't the little cute Cub Scout-looking kid anymore.
I kid about the intos but in retrospect, this was an excellent television program. Note how good these episodes look in contrast to other shows of that era. Notice, too, the fair amount of outdoor sequences that were filmed during the series run. This was a show that was very well done. And, despite the way in which it's referred to as unrealistic, this is simply not the case. The program dealt with alcoholism, divorce and other subjects taboo in that era.
Note that is season #5 the door mysteriously opens and closes when June comes out with the pitcher of tea/lemonade or whatever. Ward, Wally and Beaver were all outside... who was inside the house? AAAUUUGGHHH! It's haunted... GET OUT!
Also, note in the season #6 intro, somebody stole the glass out of the car's back window. Maybe the ghost from season #5.
@notredamehesamighty The window was taken out of the back of that car because the glare of he glass was shining too much or doing too much shadowing to film a decent shot of the stars in the back seat. I get flack for still liking this show.
@notredamehesamighty Maybe they had an ultra-modern "electric eye" on the door. I DO remember how in the final year, the theme got considerably "swingier", though I'd say the series' high point came in 1961 when Barbara B had that bouffant/flip hairdo...
Back when America had classy and decent programs that had a positive message unlike the trash that we have today on Television. Alpha control, you did a great job!!!! compiling the various intros over the years. I grew up watching "Leave it to Beaver" after school. What a great classic of all time.
Wow that was cool seeing all of those openings. Never gave too much thought before.

They should show this TV show in schools, and tell the kids of today to behave like Beaver.

The final theme is my favorite; I like the music and that cool '62 Plymouth in the driveway

@shmuli9 ,You're right, Barbara Billingsley's flip hairdo was definitely the highpoint
of the '61-'62 season.

The Beaver house is on the Universal lot. It was also Marcus Welby's house.

Looking at the copyright dates...there didn't seem to be one from 1960.... There were 2 "1959"s and then it went from 1959 to 1961.
