  • Wonderful!

  • Thank you for your comment. Raymond was on my list, but he couldn't make it. I think he was ill.

  • this is terrific!! wondering if any of your tapes included raymond burke on reeds?

  • Wow! What a recording, what a band, what a treasure! Were any of the sessions filmed?

    Congratulations - great job!

  • @Urbino237

Thank you for your kind words. No, I'm afraid we didn't have a film camera around. i should have thought of that.

  • This recording is the real new orleans music,so laid back ,I've not got this recording in my collection.I met some of these guys on my first trip to new orleans in 1973.

    Thanks chris for sharing.

  • My listing is correct, that is Creole George Guesnon.

    Who is/was Narvin?

  • @ChrisAlbertson I think sailorman ment Narvin Kimball. But it was George Guesnon

  • @ChrisAlbertson Narvin Kimbal also a great NO banjo player. This is Guesnon.

  • is that Narvin on the Banjo

  • Utterly fabulous its such a pleasure to find recxordings like this on you tube!! It's such a pity that the number of viewings is so low - this kind of music is so rare and so precious

and so misunderstood by the general public Thanks for posting it

  • @hotjazzfan1

Thank you, I will be putting together and posting more from these 1961 sessions.

  • Cottrell had a wonderful mellow fat tone. Great to see the rare photos from the session. Thanks Chris.

  • cool!

  • great recording, like you are listening to a band live in a hall - very nice, ernie cagnolatti on trumpet i presume? creole guesnon always add a great presence to any record he is on and slow drag is incomparable - that bunk and later george lewis band had the best drive ever - fantastic music - again i finally can say thank you Chris for recording such great music in a society that did not (and still does not) know how valuable this music really is

  • Thank you, Yves. Yes, that is Ernest Cagnolatti. I inadvertently left his name out and could not find a way to edit it in. Glad you mentioned him, he was wonderful.
