  • A beautiful knive you made there!

  • @bearoutdoors

    Thank you.

  • i most say that's a beautiful pattern there

  • @jhue180

    Thanks.

  • Damascus swords were very flexible sword bent into a ring.

    this bulat knife.

  • @32167BD

Any knife can be bent into a complete circle if it's heat treated right.

  • @Conan568 Bulat who did in Damascus, called Damascus steel. In the video, US bulat.

if you make a metal with low carbon content, but then he would not be a knife.

  • @32167BD

That's why this steel is made with low carbon and high carbon steels layered together.

Hard and tough at the same time.

  • i wouldnt mind being stabbed with that!

  • @gredesandman

    Thanks.

  • @Conan568 Really cool beautiful knife Conan. How does this knife feel in the hand, is it balanced?, do you like your handles with a certain amount of weight? Absolutely gorgeous!

  • @jimdoesjokes

    Thanks, I like it too.

It looks a lot heavier that it is.

I forge a distal taper on my blades and that with the convex grind makes them light quick and quite efficient.

  • Billy from Predator should have had one of these.

  • everybody wanna a knife

  • @blacksmither1

    Yes they do.

  • tamahagane

  • @MotsikVitek

    Different process.

  • Comment removed

  • Stunning. How can people who look for Damascus blades dislike this? Damn haters.

  • @Eyeball1975

Yeah they're showing how tolerant they are of others.

  • How much will i need to pay if u send me one like yours? im srs lol

  • @FawkWarcraft

It's not for available and I'm out of steel, sorry.

  • I want one :(

  • @McAppleWar

    You too huh, lol.

  • i want one like that but with a wood handle not saying the antler one aint nice just my preference beautiful beautiful blade

  • @thedoubledeus

    Thanks.

  • Woww!! that is a good looking knife! the blade is absolutely beautiful, and the handle is nice too.

  • wow!

  • @MPSecare

    Thanks.

  • Now that's a beauty of a knife...

  • @BYERE

Thanks, I liked it so much I kept it.

  • @Conan568 I'm not surprised. I'd love one like that myself.

  • how do you make that pattern? :-/

  • @BogdanCatalinAlex

I cut alternating grooves in either side of the bar then forge it flat.

  • @Conan568 could you please be more specific? So i can imagine the procces? I mean, how did you make the cuts in bar?

  • @BogdanCatalinAlex

I cut alternating grooves in either side of the bar then forge it flat.

  • @Conan568 what you achieve is a blade that look a hell lot impressive but with a fraction of the work required to pattern weld it

  • @MrIbrahimO

    This IS pattern welded steel.

It's a 448 layer bar of pattern weld Damascus I made in my shop.

  • looks like titan steel ?

  • @goodvocalcover

    Yeah it does, doesn't it.

  • @Conan568 How much would I have to pay you to make a sword of my own design?

  • @ChrisCaelanThomas

I don't do swords per say, unless they are pattern welded and then only rarely.

I can't compete with Chinese Smiths who do a good job making high quality swords that sell for low prices.

I even bought one, and they are very good.

  • @Conan568 It's a fairly easy design, it will be like making a big knife. It's not like normal swords. Which is why I want a knife smith to take a try at the design.

  • Thats one of the most beautiful blades ive ever seen!! Great craftsmanship!!

  • @smitims

    Thanks.

  • Hello Conan, I'm what you can call a true Damascene. Your videos sparked my interest in this lost art. I'm gonna try and reproduce a true Damascene sword based on my research on wootz steel, pendray's studies and your videos as a college project (I'm studying in Montréal right now) .

Kudos again for your wonderful work.

  • @DeathMach1ne by "true damascus" are you reffering to the legendary woots steel?

  • @leeroyleo123

    Lol.

  • I'm curious how much work goes into making such a knife? That looks like a lot of time, not to mention skill.

  • @alizaderic It took me a week just to make the steel for the blade.

  • @Conan568 im 12 and just starting in knife making one day i hope to be as good as you that blade was beautiful :)

  • @123moonwolf12

    Thank you.

If you keep at it and don't give up you will master this art.

Good luck and if you're stuck feel free to pick my brain.

  • Excuse me, that's not a knife, it's a work of art!

  • @alizaderic

Thanks, it was my first Damascus Bowie in about 15 years.

  • @Conan568

A while ago you mentioned a viking sword as one of your projects, have you started to work on that cuz that's one vid i wanna see...

  • @robberyrob

Yeah I have one I'll be finishing up soon, and another I'm just starting.

Google "Sutton Hoo sword" to see the pattern they'll have.

  • how do you make those cool looking thing on your blade (those stripes)

i dont know the word in english

  • @Banger896

    Those are the steel layers.

I make them wavy by grinding grooves on either side of the bar, then forging it flat.

  • where can i buy your blades ???

  • @MrDanaris

I won't be making any knives until March or April, because I'm out of Damascus steel and need to make a lot more.

Thanks for asking, and have a happy new year.

  • did you drill that pattern ? i like it a lot.

  • @huandogofwar

I cut alternating grooves to produce the pattern in this blade.

  • @Conan568 like a zipper? thank you. i tried a pattern where i drilled a series of 16mm grooves with 4 3mm grooves inside each big groove it looked very cool, rings within rings. try it out if you havent allready done that ( but i fucked up the piece when i tried to fit edge steel, japanese style. it wasnt hot enough. goes to show that you (i) cant just start welding from the first punch of the day) take care. and thank you for uploading your beatiful knives.

  • @huandogofwar

Glad your forging is working out for you.

  • @Conan568 ha ha it sure is

  • I wish I could make nice knives and swords like u ):

but I dont even have a oven or whatever it's called ):

(yeah my english sucks becouse I'm from sweden ;D)

  • @ammehmasne

Sweden should have plenty of old forges laying around.

  • @Conan568 next year when I'm in class 9, we will make knives at school.

can you give me some tips? (:

  • @ammehmasne

Sure, when you're making your knife, ask me as you're working on it.

There are phases a blade goes through and each has it's own solutions and techniques.

  • @Conan568 ok thanks.

  • @ammehmasne kig på you tube der er masser af ideer til en billig esse. du kan bruge en gammel bremseskive fra en lastbil, bygge den af mursten eller købe en brugt.

  • That is an absolutely beautiful knife man!!!!

  • @KnifeCrazzzzy

    Thanks, I like it.

    It was a nice "Come-back" piece after a 10 year lay-off.

  • well 3000 for a knife dats too mutch. for a sword dat whud bee a good price but for a knife? na. a blue steel kathana from japan gos all from 1000 to 9000 depending on the work and if it is a renownd sword. and japanease blue steel smiths ar experts on what they do.

  • @matane993

I didn't make them and I didn't price them, but big ornate Damascus Bowie's made by Master smiths will sell from $1500 to $5000.

The Japanese sword market is being taken over by China, like everything else.

Now you can buy a top grade TAMAHAGANE SWORD FOR $1500.

    Thanks for watching.

  • awesome layering pattern

  • @trialsrider001

Thanks, it did come out nice alright.

  • So, how much would you want for one of these? :)

  • @xelementassassin

It's not for sale, but if it were it would easily go for $3000.

  • @Conan568 $3000 are you crazy

  • @TheKlaj1992

No they go for $3000 and up to $5000 and even more for big ornate Damascus art knives.

I sold a smaller much less decorative Bowie for $1500 a few years back.

I have turned Buyers down @ this $3000 price on this knife.

Yeah I'm crazy alright, like a Fox.

  • any chance you can make me a nice skinning knife ?

  • @Greenf00t

Not until later in the fall.

When it cools down I'll be making more Damascus steel.

    Thank you for asking.

  • it's probably the coolest knife i've ever seen man

  • @LithiumMonster

Thanks, I'm glad you like it.

I was pretty happy with how it turned out.

This steel is always a surprise.

  • very nice.

  • have u made this it`s a beutefull piece i`m realy interested in blades they don`t need reloading:3

  • @thedarkinhell

Yeah I made it, thank you very much.

  • @Conan568 i've been interested in traditional blade forging since i was a young kid reading about the mythic and legendary sword makers of japan, china, and the middle east. where does one go about learning, and practicing the techniques you seem to have mastered?

  • @OkageNoLogan

Contact the American Bladesmith Society, via web and see if they have any courses in your area or close by.

Use the Web, you'll find something.

  • @OkageNoLogan japan and china the countries with the moest beatifull knifes

  • how much would a Bowie like that run if I wanted 31/2 inches of scandi near the tang and the rest convex?

  • @MrEhud77

    About $3000 US.

  • @Conan568 I've heard that Welded Damascus tends to keep an edge for a very long time due to tiny serrations on the blade is this so?

  • @MrEhud77

    It sure seems like it.

I helped skin 2 buffalo and my hunter still shaved hair no problem.

I think the low carbon alloy wears away quicker leaving the hard high carbon steel as a micro saw tooth.

I know my steel will saw right through kevlar and regular high carbon skates off.

  • @Conan568 I'm currently working on teaching myself about knife making, Eventually I'd love to make high quailty damascus blades , but I still need to throw a forge together (wish I had thought of doing this before I lost my job lol!)

  • First of all wicked blades, but where's the soundtrack?

  • @bundlesofmsg

Thanks,,,, the soundtrack is all of the Birds around here.

  • These knives are just beautiful.

what ever you are doing, you are doing it right by my book.

I hope you think about teaching someone, because this are should not be lost!

  • @osmo250

    thank you very much.

This art is in no danger of being lost.

The American Bladesmith Society has many classes and "Hammer-in's" and the art has more Master's now than ever.

  • @Conan568

    that is good to know

i know you said in another vid that you save your Bowie knives for different shows, but do you have a website or something that you sell other ones at?

  • nice you used a different forging method than the one i will be using

    but nice

i have a question about the handle

since it is not a smooth grip will it hurt your hands when you use it?

  • @jinnd319

It is very comfortable to use and hold.

  • Gorgeous.

  • @Antiks72

    Thank you.

  • @Conan568 Are you selling these things?

  • @Antiks72

I kept the big Bowies for knife shows.

They attract people like shit attracts flies.

  • nice blade model clasic for hunters ¡

  • @brewa90

    Yeah, if you're hunting Mammoths.

  • Wow I'm impressed. I just watch all these videos and I love this kind of process. I've always wanted to make knives and swords by hand since I was young (I still am- about 15) and I'm hoping that when I get my own place and am financially stable that I can start. Any advice for the young?

  • @MickeysEvilTwin

    Yeah, just go for it.

  • @Conan568 thanks

  • This is some sort of pattern weld yes?

  • @Pawnbroker00

    Yes, it's ladder pattern.

  • how did you design that?

  • @celever77

    In my head.

  • That is a gorgeous knife. Kudos.

  • @OblivianFlame

Thank you, glad you like it.

  • I bet that knife went for a pretty penny. Very nice craftmanship.

  • @xXBallistic82Xx

    Thanks, I kept it.

Knives like this are big draws at shows.

  • @Conan568 Now that's smart thinking.

  • Very nice blade. Do you sell your damascus?

  • @dscottlamed

    Thank you.

I don't sell my Damascus because I have no trouble useing up all that I can make.

  • nice

  • @wimpy1555

    Thank you.

  • that's exactly my style knife

  • @maxinpains

    Mine too.

  • Sometimes I sell a few, but right now I'm not because I need to make more Damascus fist.

Then when I get an order I cut a piece from the bar and forge it.

  • Do you sell your knifes?

  • this thing looks great :D

  • beautiful blade

  • @grawde Thank you.

It was my "Come-back knife" after an 11 year hiatus.

  • Now THAT is a beautiful blade, something I would pay top dollar for, how much did that go for?

  • I kept it.

I wouldn't part with it for $3000 and I kept the Southwest Bowie I made the next year as well.

  • Ah, good man.

  • Yeah, I'd rather have the knives than the paper.

  • do u earn a living from making knifes or is it a hobbie?

  • It's a hobby, that I'll always be doing. I'll be making some Damascus steel soon.

  • i must have missed a video, but how do u keep the antler handle on the tange?

  • I fill it with Epoxy glue and tighten the tang nut down on the butt-cap.

  • a lot of hard work i think ^^ i m just started whith forging

  • Thanks, the blade forging took me 2 hours because I was pretty rusty.

    Good luck with your forge.

  • how do you get Damascus Steel ? or do you made it by you self ? with iron and steel ??

  • That's right, I make my own pattern welded Damascus.

  • Nice.

  • How do you not get patterns?:P I want to forge like a knife or something, but I want it to not have patterns:P Help me please?:D

  • Forge away.

Your knife won't have any patterns unless you use Damascus steel.

  • Oh well that was easy thenXD Thanks:D

  • i reckon that would be soo satisfying as a hobby, making your own knife out of steels youve had to forge and doing a damn good job at it :)

  • Thanks, I'm still amazed by what forged blades will do.

  • yeah, theyre works of art in a way :D

  • your videos made me love Bowie knives even more, thank you for showing us your beautiful knives 5/5

  • Thank you for your comment and rating.

  • no problem friend but i'm sorry i can't do mere than just subscribe and rate because you really deserve a prize for your craftsmanship

  • Thanks.

  • Thats cool, great knife thought

  • Nice knife dude, did you hunt that deer or buy it??

  • That was a cast-off antler a guy gave me.

It was pretty bleached and ugly when I got the pair.

I still have the other antler from the set, which I'll use for another knife.

  • Nice Enough For A Crusader To Carry..I Like The Traditional Horn Awsome...

  • Thanks, that knife is bigger than it looks @ 18" long.

  • wow, that's seriously hardcore. to be able to carry such a blade having created it yourself must bring an enoumous sense of accomplishment!

  • Thanks, but I don't carry this one around, I pack something a little plainer..

  • Jesus... beuatiful knives man, wish i had the money to buy one like that, im about to buy a knife kit with a premade blade so all i do is make the handle, any tips?

  • Thanks.

Tips, sure take your time, don't rush it.

  • thanks, yah im not quite sure what im gona do im considering some kind of mix of medium chunks of oak then small ceader chunks exc. do u need a promel on a small bowie knife?

  • nice knife, sure as hell noone else could make a better one

  • Thanks, that bar of steel did come out nice.

  • Bring that knife and bring your hipocrisy, I will beat you with both of these hands to the ground fruitcake!

  • Sure you will Fukbar.

You can only win a fight when you outnumber an ambushed person 10 to 1 or with an IED and you know it.

  • How much are you asking for that blade conan? Just curious. Do you have a site?

  • I don't have a site, and this blade isn't for sale.

I did sell the smaller Bowie that came from the same bar of steel for $1500, cut it was asmaller 11" blade and brass fittings.

  • Good work. Looks um ..authentic.

    I really like that ferral/spacer.
