When 3 Days of the Condor was originally released, Redford's character looked like an principled idealist taking the high road in contrast to Robertson's sociopathic bureaucrat.
Here in 2009, Robertson's character looks like a prophetic genius in contrast to Redford's naive boob.
@jmb92555 Oh yes we would. Go look up the lists of top 15 countries we import oil and petroleum from. Middle Eastern and African sources account for 33% to 40% of those totals. Try and think about how much gas for that Datsun tin can would cost if those sources vanished tomorrow.
No, we would not. This is much too complex to go into here and really it isn't worth it. Most homes are heated by natural gas or electricity...~90%. Heating oil is >10%. No ME connection in either case. Nobody freezes.
Petroleum imports from the ME are less than 17%. Would an embargo hurt? Obviously. Would anyone starve? No. Bottom line: if they want to sell it (they do) we will buy it. Should we take it by force? No.
Robertson's character does not look like a prophetic genius.
robert redford avoided clift robertson like the plague (as did 99% hollywood)when robertson took a movie studio executive to court for forging his signature on a check. robertson was BLACK-LISTED for years, because of that!!!
The US govt treats is marines and soldiers like crap. depleted uranium, agent orange, walter reed, suicide rates going up, multiple deployments, have to buy your own armor, lack of armor for humvees, depression rates at an all time high, mental instability... fuck the US govt
This movie is before 911..You can see the twin towers in almost every shot.. the headquarts of the CIA.....Oil.... next food!

I'd say this is one of the most prophetic scenes in movie history. US invades a mid-eastern country for "strategic reasons"
Oh wait! I forgot "weapons of mass destruction.

I know, I completely agree!
WilliamGlad: Would you mind considering posting the entire movie, please? Thanks!
