One thing that stood out in this performance was when Wang dropped out around 1:59, conceding to the flute phrase. It's something I didn't notice in any other performance (bless youtube for making comparison possible). In general you see a lot of this withholding in favor of the flute solo and I wonder if this was intentional on the part of the cellist, planned by the conductor, or just something to this one performance.

Conductor's wouldn't have any input into how a soloist plays...at least they shouldn't so yes it would have been the cellist. Don't ever over estimate conductors. The vast majority are useless failed musicians! As bad as critics imo.

I love this piece. I think it could be a bit slower, but Wang played it with a very beautiful voice and with a good feeling. I enjoyed.
