This is an absolutely ridiculous power band. Rosenwinkel managed to get Meldau and Redman, two major players who usually play in bands under their own names in a band under his name here. This is really a collective, and it sounds amazing.
mehldau has so much fucking swag in his playing, just so musical, he will go down in the same sentence as keith jarrett, bill evans, oscar peterson, hancock, etc
@Francoisdiomaiuta At the beginning and end joshua and kurt have solo sections together. I think it sounds awesome. although others have said the same thing on previous uploads of this video. as far as solos Brad comps for Kurt, Kurt comps for Joshua and and Brad comps himself. unless your saying you dont like Kurts accompaniment on josh's solo. I think its GREAT!
@shawn195 Yeah this is a common technique that they alternate. But i think its really important that you have you quiet points in a piece, and specially in a solo. I really like brad comping for kurt because you dont really listen to him when kurt is soloing, when joshua is soloing i really have do hide kurt to follow joshua. Joshua is really telling a story and i think Kurt dosent fit with his ideas to that what joshua wantet to say :)
@Francoisdiomaiuta I agree completely. I do think in this case it may have had something to do with the mixing of the audio - brad was mixed quieter and kurt may have been in the front more so his comping seemed a bit obtrusive.
Great to see this back up ! there were many of the older Kurt and Mark Turner videos as well as these with Brad Mehldau that went missing. Thanks for posting ! Nice to see all of these killing musicians again
@gentilguy If you're referring to nunoalpi's channel, I believe he was banned for uploading too much. IMO it was the best channel on youtube. It's bs because this stuff absolutely needs to be shared. Hopefully our friend doriangrey here will be able to use a little more discretion and be in there for the long run.
Great stuff! And the rest of your uploads are equally as badass. Many thanks.

@suhrgavin It's the Jazz à Vienne festival in France

So there wasn't a person in the whole of Vienna to give Ali Jackson something to anchor his hi-hat with?
You can literally see it inching away every time he steps on it.

Listen to some McCoy with Henderson. No quiet points needed.
