Yes what a tragic upbringing! But sorry that is no excuse. Many of us, like me, have had abusive parents in some way or form. I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters, some of us got in a little trouble as children/teenagers, but none of us turned into killers or serial killers, we all live decent and productive lives. These people need to be taken out of society, and never get released.
His upbringing is not an excuse to kill but I doubt he was ever taught or shown what is morally right, this is pretty much ALL he ever knew and learned in his life. Jeff Dahmer gets so much bad attention and he didn't kill near as many people as most of these other people did. Also, he didn't murder any of them (except his first victim when he was kid) brutally. I agree with RockDivisionRecords, that he is responsible for his own actions.
The root of the cause is studied by people to understand why someone would commit such sick crimes.
Parents have a responsibility to raise their children in a loving home, but if they disregard their children; consequently, the children may (emphasis on may here) grow up becoming monsters themselves. It's pretty much a cycle, though most people with shitty childhoods don't go to this far extreme, if any at all.

Yeah I agree. Every last documentary I've seen on serial killers all starts out with growing up in a dysfunctional home. This man's mother was a whore and an alkie. And she beat the shit out of him. He wanted to get away from her and bitch went looking for him. I don't completely feel sorry for the mom.. She did not deserve to die . But I think she needed to get fucked up by him a little. She at least earned a good beat down if anything for her deeds towards her son.

Abusive childhoods can and will alter the moral compus of a person. Any psychologist or crimenologst will say the same. These people are incapable of accepting responsibility for their actions because these actions are not wrong in their minds. That and this man had been desynthatized by the actions of his mother and childhood.

Yes what a tragic upbringing! But sorry that is no excuse. Many of us, like me, have had abusive parents in some way or form. I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters, some of us got in a little trouble as children/teenagers, but none of us turned into killers or serial killers, we all live decent and productive lives. These people need to be taken out of society, and never get released.

Jeff Dahmer gets so much bad attention and he didn't kill near as many people as most of these other people did. Also, he didn't murder any of them (except his first victim when he was kid) brutally. In fact, he preferred strangulation after drugging them because he felt it was the most humane way to go about it. It was only after they were dead that he did horrible things. He was clearly a sick (but good natured) individual that, had he gotten help early, would have been different.
