There's a band from Boston called Vis A Tergo, they interpret this song a little edgier.. Couldn't find it on youtube but you can google it if you like this song
I had this playing while I was doing something else, and I wasn't too impressed. And then that Cello showed up out of no-where, started ripping it up and kicked me in the behind! Great work!
ifyou want to hear darlin cory try to listen to joe browns version ..the guy is billiant singing and pluckin' [ one of the best guitar and banjo players in yhe uk..someone post on u tube pleaze
I love this version. Just as much as I like to hear Elizabeth Laprelle do the same song. Never thought of music as a competition. Traditional music is wonderful and should reflect both tradition and the performer. It's great that the music has a life that moves can change.
Not my thing at all. The band took a classic mountain song from the hills of Tennessee and yankee'd it up, removing any and all soul, feeling or any real sense of rhythm or drive for that matter. Chris Jones (an upstate New Yorker) does a fantastic job on this song.
Wow. yankee'd it up huh? How about putting an interesting twist on a song that's been done a million times? I checked out your page, and I see that you're into bluegrass, and that's why I'm so surprised at the fact that you say the song lacks drive and rhythm. Greg Liszt's banjo skills are amazing, and his drive and vamping techniques are pretty incredible, not to mention his development of a four finger style of picking. that's probably why "The Boss" had him play on the Seeger Sessions tour.
Believe what you will and, yes, yankee'd up as in taking a song that had a drive, rhythm, and an identifiable feeling or emotion and gutting it. To me, doing stuff like this is akin to the Joker in the first Batman movie "improving the paintings." Unfortunately, most people aren't familiar enough with the song to have a true frame of reference.
great version of a true classic tune.. this band can play for sure.. nice vocals,, does any one have the bruce hornsby ,ricky scaggs version of darlin corey.. a little differant but verry nice indeed.. thanks for this great video

woah jocwalk, calm down. The song is AWESOME and is filled with soul. Although, this is not the best version I've seen but its still GREAT!
It doesn't matter where the band is from, its all in the quality of the music and this has superior quality.
