70 years ago, second world war, my ancestors have not forgotten them. German and Japan. BLOOD FEUD MUCH MORE BIGGER AND DEEPER THAN THE SEA. This is a sad show we have to face the realilty of this unpardonable history that cannot be forgiven by many
Thank you soo much for putting Holocaust on Youtube. Just like lynne150351 I've spend the last 24 hours watching from part one. I started yesterday lol.
I was about 13 years old, when I saw Holocaust (I had a crush on Rudy Weiss ;)) ) and even after all these years, most of it I still remembered. I couldn't find the serie nowhere in stores (I live in France) so I was soo happy finding it on youtube.
I sincerely hope that this kind of evil never rises again!
@tasiawood When the movie was first shown on televeision, millions watched it every night. I just found it today on youtube, so I will very likely watch it threugh over the next week or so. Beats the crap out of what's currently on television right now.
Well I didn't see all parts in a single day. I started watching this at 4 pm and didn't want to stop till the end. But I was sleepy at 1.30 am and directly skipped from 49 to 59 because I knew I would not sleep till I knew who really made it in the end . Good movie. Thanks for posting
I watched War and Remembrance by available clips in youtube, and I hope to find a complete DVD version of it. But meantime, I will proceed to escape from Sobibor. Thanks for posing this, and I pray that those things will never be happen again. Shalom everyone.
thanks for posting . this was excellent . the next one i want to see is war and remembrance.if you got it kiwikatzkatz please post . would be very grateful....
I sat through all of this over a week. Couldn't take it all at once. Hadn't seen it since when it was on TV years ago. Made an impact then, and now. Joseph Bottoms was so good in his role, like all the rest. The script is really brilliant.
wow I just spent my 8 hours watching entire series in my day off but well worth it .Proud to be Jewish despite what ppl thinks about us and please god shield humans from this kind of shame ever again regardless of their religion or color .
I don't know why he would feel "blank:" about Enga. She is the best sister-in-law a man could ask for. She even put herself in a concentration camp just to be with him! Now that is the real love of a woman!
@christo930 It is true what you say about Inga. :) I interpret Rudi's "blank" feeling as a post-traumatic reaction against everything terrible and the constant stress he went through. It might also be his mind's way of coping with the post-war situation; he, like many others, has lost basically everything and nevertheless tries to return to everyday life.
@N10me As much as I hope otherwise, I think the multi-cultural dream is simply unattainable. I know it's fiction, but here is a situation where a woman did everything possible to support her husband and yet her brother in law still can't see her as "one of him" and I am sure situations like that happened all over western Europe at the conclusion of hostilities.
@christo930 Rudy's blank feeling does not strike me as odd, except that it should not have been written into the script. But Inga's "You can hate ME" statement is quite surprising, and probably a bit of brainwashing aimed at Gentiles (as in "You should feel guilty."). As my chief mentor in Hebrew School explained, "There is no 'Guilt by Blood'." (no such thing as 'Inherited Guilt') That should have been made clear in this last segment of the series.
@megaswenson Till this day there is a lot of German guilt and white guilt in the US (for slavery). I agree with your mentor, intergenerational or guilt by racial or ethnic association is stupid. Let's not forget that many German people put themselves at great personal risk to hide Jews in their houses, sometime people they didn't even know! What happened in Denmark was the highpoint of humanity during WW2. The Danish people (even police) helped the Jews get out and even paid their fare.
@christo930 In addition, they hid and moved Jews around at great personal risk, fed them, gave them water (remember, there were war time shortages and did everything they could do to get every last Jew into safety in Sweden. We may be poorly evolved apes, forever trying to kill each other, but we are also capable of greatness. Hiding your friend or son-in-law is one thing, but hiding perfect strangers and spending your money to help them shows how high we can aim and achieve.
@christo930 You're so right! The Danes were quite heroic and generous. The Italians were, too. I read 'The Rescue of the Danish Jews', and was quite impressed. And, as you say, plenty of Germans risked their lives to save Jews.
@megaswenson Yes. For all the bad thing Mussolini did, he refused to cooperate with Hitler about Italian Jews. He saw them as Italian and worth of protection. It wasn't until the NAZIs were occupying Italy that any Jews (and others) were deported. Once again, there were many, many Italians that put themselves at great personal risk and expense to hide Jews, facilitate escapes etc.
Many thanks for uploading this mini series....Just spent 2 days on and off watching it all, having just read the book....great quality upload too. Once again..Thank you !!
I have just spent 24 hours watching this from start to finish, absolutely brilliant, sad heartbreaking, we should never forget, mans inhumanity to his fellow man, R.I.P all of those who were butchered and killed, thanyou so much for uploading this, peace and love.
This is a TV movie subject to interpretation!!!! The simple and direct question is Where is th evidence? Surely the world deserves and honest and truthful answer.
@centralbulldogs got to google videos and type it in and it will show where to watch it, i watched it last week through veoh player, let me know if you find it if you not then i will email you the address
Thank -you kiwikatzkatz for putting this up,I as well as others appreciate it, do you know if Sophie's choice can be seen?I looked but could not find it.
@roxyoursox26 If you google "watch sophie's choice on megavideo" you'll probably find it or you can search it through "ovguide". I can usually find just about anything with those two searches..... Hope that helps!! :)
It took a while to finish this film, but during those days I realized, truly how cruel and ruthless some were, and those innocent Jewish/homosexuals/and other groups were merely blamed and then punished, and I pray to god that this film, as well as other films, and the survivors teach, and show people that blaming a certain group is not the way,and that every single race is a beautiful gift from god. God didn't create different race groups, for them to hate one another.
bit of a kop out ending, can any hope really be taken from the death of 7 million innocent people, old men, women, children? Should the show have really ended with Rudi's grin splashed accross the screen?
What hope indeed? And now we have Jews in Palestine with bulldozers and guns and tanks and attack helicopters acting in a fashion not too disimilar to some of those betrayed in this film. Is that hope? Is that anything to be proud of?
@hazsa19 Hope is not with the ones that died but with those that survived and have had the strength to live on. They are a testament and proof of Hitler's failure and the fact that evil can be defeated..... in that sense at least, they did not die in vain and will never be forgotten. As fellow human beings, we CANNOT let their sacrifices be forgotten. :) Just my thoughts, anyway.....
@JustaWyomingGirl of course we should remember them. I just don't think there's ever been a dramatised account of the holocaust with a real ending. There were survivors and we should celebrate the fact some did survive, but that's not the story of the holocaust imo.
When I first watched the whole series I assumed at the start the survivors would be karl moses and rudy but then when i found out only rudy survived it was moving 'cos he ran away survived all alone , met his wife helena, escaped death many times from the nazi death squads, troops etc got containe din sobibor, escaped and lived.
ITS SO RIDICULOUS WHEN PEOPLE DENY THE HOLOCAUST EVEN HAPPENED, HAVENT YOU NOTICED, WHEN THEY MAKE ANY MOVIE ABOUT IT, THEY MUST USE THE ACTUAL PHOTOS OF THE ATROCITIES, AS NO ONE COULD REPRODUCE THE HORRORS, THE CONDITION OF THE PEOPLE ET CETERA. YOUR DENIERS ARE JUST AS BAD AS HITLER HIMSELF. GOD BLESS THE VICTIMS AND THE SURVIVORS OF THE HOLOCAUST/SHOAH. LOVE ALLIE FROM REVERE, MASS USA (A CATHOLIC)
I have cried my way through this show....i love it! This is truely a MASTERPIECE. It gives some insight on families from both views (Jewish, and German) How each one saw things. I love this show! Great actors too! :)
germany has not yet paid for the beastiality it committed onto the lives of europeans, the beasts of the reich has passed down a legacey of outrage that can never be rectified
yes evry kid in school should be shown this,,so they relize to kill other humans should stop..history is so needed ,to teach us not to make the same mistake,,will it ever end,
this was the best show i've ever seen about the holocaust. and believe me i've seen a lot. but this one had it all. i almost cried when the show ended with the expression on the face of Rudi. God bless everyone who went trough a hell like this.
Thanks a lot for uploading all of these! This is a nicely done film, showing a little of all sides, without any soap-opera elements to cheapen the truth, just people trying to survive. Thanks again!
The series contains so many accurate details that it's a bit of a shame they made the ending seem so easy - being liberated from the camps did not mean a happy ending for most, and the problems didn't just clear up as soon as the Americans arrived.
Still a great representation of the whole experience of the holocaust though, thanks for posting
I think this series are very well made. captured both side. I do not think this is about Jewish and German. both of them can be completely opposite situation. HUMAN we are all the same and we are from the same place. so we are Nazi and we are Jewish, WE MUST NOT FORGET THIS. we have evilness and kindness. Hitler wasn the only one. we helped him. we must not to grow the evilness selfishness. German was going mad and made Nazi, because of many reason. We have to find a way to purify the anger.
now we see the cruelty of the human who destroyed little by little the world
i'm scared by that !
but if there is a little kindness in this world of injustice and cruelty, there is little to be still hope ...
And thankyou very much, Kiwikatzkatz for this mini-series with wonderful actors ! (I said, I am French, so excused, my mistakes and maybe my misunderstanding)
@teel6060 Well the others sort of faught too. Karl faught as best as he could internally with the camp, not giving into its cruel ways. He made it but died probably of disease. That one man, Moses Weiss, he faught hard until they shot him down. Joseph Weiss tried to fight it, but he was more laid back. He didn't really try to fight for his freedom, but more for others.
Lesson not correctly learned, however, @teel6060. The bride of the family member fighter who made it was a fighter who did NOT make it. The Warsaw Ghetto fighters almost all did NOT make it. A sizable minority of European Jews, on the other hand, DID make it by fleeing ahead of the Holocaust. The real lesson is to wisely and vigilantly defend human rights against the sort of abuse that reached such a horrific extreme in the case of the Holocaust.
Thank you very much kiwikatzkatz. I have no idea how to put something like this on Youtube, but I'm sure it was quite an effort, and it is appreciated.
I watched this when it first aired on television, and ever since then I've been fascinated with the civilian side of WWll. I've visited Nagasaki and Hiroshima, and I hope to one day see Auschwitz.
This was an awesome recollection of history. It is almost unbelievable to imagine what those bastards did to innocent people - women and children. God bless the U.S.
Well, in large in the United States has been the leader of human freedom throughout mans history. Im not saying that we havent had our bad parts as well, but overall our atrocities are small compared to atrocities committed by other nations in history, like stalin, mao zedong, mussolini, hitler. etc etc.
@Hydra773 Well currently maybe you should check in on the number of civillan casualties killed in Iraq since 1991 or perhaps the hundreds of thousands killed in Hiroshima and Nagasaki Atomic bombs dropped by Americans. The Slave trade of over two hundred years and the witch hunts of Senator Mcarthy and of course the Genocide of Native Americans. Is that leading freedom?
Through our methods of free enterprise the united states has improved the lives of BILLIONS of people around the world. It is true the economic freedom promotes human freedom.
Of course along the way many people in underdeveloped countries have gotten free food and created more babies AKA- more hungry mouths to feed in the process. This is sad, but it is the awful truth. You can give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, or you can teach him how to fish and he will eat 4 life.
Israeli Israel Shahak wrote in the late 1980s about his experience as a Jew under Nazi occupation: "if you enter a square from which there are three exits, one guarded by a German SS man, one by an Ukrainian and one by a Jewish policeman, then you should first try to pass the German, and then maybe the Ukrainian, but never the Jew."
i didnt know, until i looked it up. He had Jewish ancestry and Hitler even made an exception after Himmler found out and kept him in the SS. I had never heard of him until now, im shocked. He died in 1972, so the Allies never looked to charge him for any warcrimes or anything? Thanks for the info...wow
Thank you so much for putting this on you tube. When it was first shown on TV, my mmother would not let me watch it because of my age. What an excellent story built around actual events. Of course the events were sinister, but nothing that Germany did during the war was not. It still puzzling for me to imagine why Germany was even allowed to exist as a country after the war. As an American, I have sworn never to visit either Germany or Japan as their guilt of spinless murders churns my stomach.
My mum-law', an Auschwitz survivor whose family ws annihilated found this film difficult to watch & said very little but to nod her head. My bros-in-law said Mama do you endorse? & she just kept nodding "Oh yeah-yeah". we could never fully explain why MrWiesel criticized the movie to her - She'd just say "he's crazy stupid!" It didn't impress her that he was a Nobel Laureate..& she thought she should get "one" too. Bless her dear soul, sadly my mum-in law died just over 10 years ago.
I first watched this movie when I was a child of ten in 1978 and I didnt know so much pain existed in the world until I saw this movie.I just wanted to state as human beings we need to love more and stop trying to blame others for our downfalls.. We need to be accountable for our own lives and then can we all live in a more harmonious world.
@carolynan I did it in two days, which was rather foolish of me. It was magnificent, but it struck me that one thing was missing: the summary executions and beatings on the spot of individuals which one sees in similar movies like Schindler's List and Insurrection (I think was the English title). Perhaps the omission was intended to emphasise that these homicidal monsters wished to appear to the outside world decent, humane soldiers just doing their duty - a major theme of the series.
Great, just awesome masterpiece... this show was the best... I don´t know why Elie Wiezel criticized soo much with that article... by the way, does anyone knows who to find it?
The show was very deep and emotional, and showed the cruelty of the war
in my opinion you people need not to be arguing of what truly hapend neither should their be anyone insulted i know it must have hurt to the people who realy were there but come to think this is just a film of a true s2ry it need not to be acurate on somethings just to let other people know that those people are cruel cause even if they did made the film the same as posible as it could be it wud make no differens its just a film but through this lots of people knew what hapend around those days
I don't mean to be rude but I absoultely detest it when people say England when referring to the war. There were Welsh, Scottish and Irish people also in the war. It was Britain, hence the ''Battle of Britain'' not England who were involved in the war.
Wow! That Was Nice That The CBS Television Distribution Logo Came After The Worldvision Logo At The End, I'm Guessing It's From The DVD Release If I'm Correct!
I don't understand how Rudy could not have desired to stay with his only brother's only child... Why did he say he had no family when he had Inge and Karl's son?!
Some of those countries couldnt do anything. Britain knew about the holocaust but did not know the extent like most. However we decided that it was more important to put our war effort into ending the war as soon as possible. A lot of people from many nations tried their best to stop/reduce the holocaust. However Britain told the USA about the holocaust but the USA did not beleive them putting it down to propaganda. It's all very well saying we should have done this or that but atleast we won!
Wow, U.S.A. , France, and England should have intervene earlier... The important countries of the World should take this as a lesson and not let no kind of GENOCIDE happen again. RWANDA, AND OTHERS...
Britain and France came in when the Nazis marched into Poland. Thats early enough concidering we had low arms. The USA came in when the war was nearly over so fair does on that but I don't think its fair to say for Britain and France.
I used to have a Jewish boyfriend and he defended the atomic bombings, at least Hiroshima, with "that was war, war is hell and everyone knows it". The Nazis made that same argument to excuse the Holocaust.
Once you defend murder, how can you make an objection to anything?
The US won the war, the Nazis lost. That's the essential difference. If the Japanese had won you'd be seeing gut-wrenching movies about their sufferings.
Try to think beyond your culture. If a movie like this fails to awake outrage against all atrocities, not just those against Jews, it's failed.
dropping the A-bomb is not murder. It's killing people but not murder. plus Japan was at war with USA at the time. and did you really want the alternative, storming the mainland of japan, which would have been a bloodbath?
i'm not condoing the USA's actions, also remember more people died in Toyko bombings than either A-bomb sites.
The holocaust was ethnic cleansing to the nth, the jews declared war on no one that's the difference.
The Brits, USSR, Free Europeans in the RAF and most of the commonwealth fought to stop this for a HELL of a long time. Then the USA came in... In no way did the USA win the war.. These nations and these people won the war and they should all be classed as HEROS. Don't you forget it!!!!
I think you should appologies to the other allied nations of WW2 for your aragance.
When there's a World war with two sides with multiple nations on either side one nation cannot win alone. The British and Russian war effort did far more than the USA anyway.
The calculation was made and was acurate that less people died from the nukes of Japan than what would of died if the yanks had invaded Japan. The war had to be ended and quik. I think thats what they did.
I cannot imagine how terrible life must have been for the Jews after Nazi Germany was defeated. Yes, they were "safe" (though there were still pograms against them in Poland, for example), but then they had to cope with residual antisemitism and the agony of losing their families, friends, homes, etc.
Thanks for the upload kiwikatzkatz. I hadn't seen this since I was a small child (maybe 7 or 8?) but a lot of the scenes have stuck with me to this day. I watched all 59 segments back-to-back this w/e and now I'm off to buy the DVD now so I can have a copy for myself to keep and to show it to others. Thanks again.
Ditto kiwikatzkatz! I was a kid when this series aired back in the 70's. I was haunted then and remain haunted now. A number of my neighbors were survivors. They often sat in front of my building to catch some rays during the summer. I remember the numbers on their arms.
Rudi will probably immigrate to Israel. They should have made a sequel of sorts. Rudi starts a new family in the holy land and fights for its independance.
My grandmother and grandfather, who surely would have been in these camps. They are from German descent, but thankfully, they were born in America. It's so hard to completely grasp all this. How could this utter horror ever happen? I can't possibly imagine...
Man spent so much money on war and killing each other, just think how wonderful it will be if this world is no war, no hate.

Such a fighter.

I love this end , a great and true story !
now we see the cruelty of the human who destroyed little by little the world
i'm scared by that !
but if there is a little kindness in this world of injustice and cruelty, there is little to be still hope ...
And thankyou very much, Kiwikatzkatz for this mini-series with wonderful actors ! (I said, I am French, so excused, my mistakes and maybe my misunderstanding)

The only family member to make it was the fighter. Lesson learned.
teel6060 1 year ago
@teel6060 Well the others sort of faught too. Karl faught as best as he could internally with the camp, not giving into its cruel ways. He made it but died probably of disease. That one man, Moses Weiss, he faught hard until they shot him down. Joseph Weiss tried to fight it, but he was more laid back. He didn't really try to fight for his freedom, but more for others.
AisuKibaMystic 1 year ago
Lesson not correctly learned, however, @teel6060. The bride of the family member fighter who made it was a fighter who did NOT make it. The Warsaw Ghetto fighters almost all did NOT make it. A sizable minority of European Jews, on the other hand, DID make it by fleeing ahead of the Holocaust. The real lesson is to wisely and vigilantly defend human rights against the sort of abuse that reached such a horrific extreme in the case of the Holocaust.

Well, in large in the United States has been the leader of human freedom throughout mans history. Im not saying that we havent had our bad parts as well, but overall our atrocities are small compared to atrocities committed by other nations in history, like stalin, mao zedong, mussolini, hitler. etc etc.
Hydra773 1 year ago 2
@Hydra773 Well currently maybe you should check in on the number of civillan casualties killed in Iraq since 1991 or perhaps the hundreds of thousands killed in Hiroshima and Nagasaki Atomic bombs dropped by Americans. The Slave trade of over two hundred years and the witch hunts of Senator Mcarthy and of course the Genocide of Native Americans. Is that leading freedom?
nigel65deck 1 year ago
@nigel65deck

Squab1972 1 year ago
@carolynan I did it in two days, which was rather foolish of me. It was magnificent, but it struck me that one thing was missing: the summary executions and beatings on the spot of individuals which one sees in similar movies like Schindler's List and Insurrection (I think was the English title). Perhaps the omission was intended to emphasise that these homicidal monsters wished to appear to the outside world decent, humane soldiers just doing their duty - a major theme of the series.

some of those countries you mention knew about the camps and did nothing
itkapatanka 2 years ago
Some of those countries couldnt do anything. Britain knew about the holocaust but did not know the extent like most. However we decided that it was more important to put our war effort into ending the war as soon as possible. A lot of people from many nations tried their best to stop/reduce the holocaust. However Britain told the USA about the holocaust but the USA did not beleive them putting it down to propaganda. It's all very well saying we should have done this or that but atleast we won!
draculapw 2 years ago 2

I used to have a Jewish boyfriend and he defended the atomic bombings, at least Hiroshima, with "that was war, war is hell and everyone knows it". The Nazis made that same argument to excuse the Holocaust.
Once you defend murder, how can you make an objection to anything?
toppinzr 2 years ago
There is no comparison between the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the holocaust. Think about what you are saying.
jpc277 2 years ago 4
The US won the war, the Nazis lost. That's the essential difference. If the Japanese had won you'd be seeing gut-wrenching movies about their sufferings.
Try to think beyond your culture. If a movie like this fails to awake outrage against all atrocities, not just those against Jews, it's failed.
toppinzr 2 years ago
dropping the A-bomb is not murder. It's killing people but not murder. plus Japan was at war with USA at the time. and did you really want the alternative, storming the mainland of japan, which would have been a bloodbath?
i'm not condoing the USA's actions, also remember more people died in Toyko bombings than either A-bomb sites.
The holocaust was ethnic cleansing to the nth, the jews declared war on no one that's the difference.
both are horrific in their own right.
devi2691 2 years ago
The Brits, USSR, Free Europeans in the RAF and most of the commonwealth fought to stop this for a HELL of a long time. Then the USA came in... In no way did the USA win the war.. These nations and these people won the war and they should all be classed as HEROS. Don't you forget it!!!!
draculapw 2 years ago
I think you should appologies to the other allied nations of WW2 for your aragance.
When there's a World war with two sides with multiple nations on either side one nation cannot win alone. The British and Russian war effort did far more than the USA anyway.

I cannot imagine how terrible life must have been for the Jews after Nazi Germany was defeated. Yes, they were "safe" (though there were still pograms against them in Poland, for example), but then they had to cope with residual antisemitism and the agony of losing their families, friends, homes, etc.
