When we were little, my cousin and I decided that we were going to have a double wedding and both go on our honeymoon here......I feel so old now! LOL
One summer, my folks took the family on a week's vaca over there, and there were these two sisters there. I pursued one, struck out, and got the other one. Good times....over 30 years ago.
Now's the perfect time, to come to Mount Airy Lodge, were you can play all day and dance into the night. At beautiful Mount Airy Lodge, all you have to bring, is your love of everything. All you have to bring is your love of everything thing. Beautiful Mount Airy Lodge!
@aldoreshgaramok Doesn't surprise me a bit that the "boys" were there. Anytime there is gambling around the "gang" is sure to want in on it. I've been living in Vegas for the past 5 years and everyone says it was better (winning wise) when the "boys" owned the casinos! Can't wait to get back home and see the new place.
@thebigskynow Sure is Dangerfield, and Tony Bennett. These resorts were the high life before the 1970s rolled around. Search for Borscht Belt Comedians. All the famous comics were in the Catskills and Poconos all the time. That time is long, long gone. I'm still shocked the badly run-down Nevele was open until 2009, and people were actually living in the collapsing Homowack before the State forced them to leave for their own safety. Interesting area.
"BEAUTIFUL MOUNT AIRY...Casino & Resort..." :) :) :) Yeah, that's the ad I saw while I was down in Trenton last week (on the Philly networks--WPVI-6 ABC, actually). It was kinda funny hearing them say "Casino & Resort" at the end of it. Considering I grew up in BK listening to "BEAUTIFUL MOUNT AIRY LODGE!" I remember seeing the old ad on our B&W set some 20+ years ago...hell, I can still see it! Just like yesterday... BTW, I still think that figure skater @ 0:13 looks yummy! ;) Anybody know her?
Thanks for posting this TV ad. This ad ran in the Pittsburgh market at that time. I remember not being able to get that Mt. Airy song out of my head. It played over and over in my head. It looked great on TV, but then I know how TV can be. Wow, not being able to get that tune out of my head may explain why I'm brain-dead now. Beautiful Mt. Airy Lodge. Now that song is in there again. There go more brain cells.
All you nimrods are talking out your a-hole. I worked there in the 80's when it was a big honking hulk of a depressing dive. It was a mess. It was sold, razed and built back up into a very shnazzy casino/hotel/spa by (no- not a felon) a generous, classy, family to whom the area owes a debt of gratitude for for keeping the Poconos a destination for the area.
Yes they do use part of the melody for the current spots. It's the "beautiful Mount Airy...Casino Resort" part that sounds like the old jingle. The rest of the spots are all different. Thank God.
Mount Airy Lodge....I went there once or twice in the early '80s. It was a really nice place, back when the Poconos was a whole 'nother world for this city slicker (grew up in Queens, NY). Unfortunately the Poconos has turned into a dive and I'm sorry to hear about what happened to MAL. Does anyone remember Schmitt's Mountain Resort in Marshalls Creek? I went there every summer from 1980-85.
I went there in 1990 with my family for winter break in February when I was 6. I have great fun memories from it! I remember the game room, the pool, and when we went skiing. I had no idea that its now a casino. Its a shame! Ah well at least i have my memories.
Thank you! This was a late night TV staple. I expect to see an episode of Star Trek or Twilight zone following the commercial. Thank you for posting it and bringing back good memories of my insomnia!
bartman xoxo..the majority of these resort owners get their money from some type of mob circle..you should research that, there was no purpose for u to place that information HERE...anyway i worked at the new casino (mt airy) and had the chance to meet Denaples and hes a great guy and what he did with mount airy was very smart and very wise.
DeNaples, owner of Mount Airy Casino Resort in northeastern Pennsylvania, faces four counts of perjury for allegedly lying about contacts with four men to get a casino license. Two of the men are reputed mobsters and the other two were at the center of a political corruption scandal in Philadelphia.
My family went to Mt. Airy Lodge several times a year from 1969 to 1989, and then a few times until the early 90's. I went back and saw the demolition in 2005 :-(
I've begun a blog for others to share those memories, pics, etc. at "mountairylodgememories 'dot' blogspot 'dot' com"
Asbury Pk is practically owned by the fags/lesi's. They invested heavily when property value turned to shit, cuz the town turned into shit. Not they rebuilt it up and I heard it is nice. Too bad there is more aids per sq mile to shake a stick at in that town. Oh well, at least its not a dive ne more
it had a sister resort, Pocono Gardens for couples only.we went to Pocono Garden on first anniv. '86. It was great. Stayed from friday night- sunday morning, All meals including tips. round bed, fireplace, heart shape jacuzzi, fridge, sauna indoor heated pool, private deck for nude sunbathing.all for $500 .took our 4 yr old son to Mt Airy in 92 for same price. Mt Airy was family oriented but we got the exact same suite as Pocono Garden. Son loved the jacuzzi with bubbles . all meals included.
My husband and I spent our honeymoon at the old Mt. Airy Lodge in October, 1960. What a wonderful place it was. Quiet, beautiful, a get-a-way for honeymooners. We went back in 1985 and spent our 25th anniversary there. We were happy to see it was still there. Now it is a casino - and the old Mt. Airy is no more. Too bad but everything has it's day. We have great memories!!!! and 5 kids and 12 grandchildren hee hee!!!
I worked for someone who said he got drunk in Philadelphia at a party in college, and wound up at Mt. Airy Lodge. So, I guess people and not just the ones of the commercials, actually went there.
Wow, I can't believe how long it has been! Does anybody else remember the commercials for the "Kew Motor Inn"? I grew up in Kew Gardens and always wanted to go.
Pass it by all the time. For my wedding in 1980 we mistakenly placed some very old relatives there, and I'm sure the mirrors on the bedroom ceiling, along with the heart-shaped tub and the "sensible hourly room rates", really spiced things up for their evening.
They had various commercials with this jingle. I'm inclined to think that they started sometime around '78, and ran until sometime in the mid 80s, when the jingle was updated ("All you have to bring is your love of everything...") Maybe the commercials started earlier though, I'm not certain.
i'm looking for the commercial with the theme song, must have been late 80s early 80s, it goes now is the perfect time and the season is just right? anyone remember it?
now's the perfect time. the season is just right. we can play all day and dance into the night. at beautiful mount airy lounge, all you have to bring is your love of everything. all you have to bring is your love of everything, beautiful mount airy lodge."
Man I remember this when I used to watch cartoons after school on WPIX when I was a kid. BTW doesn't the guy in the ski lift look like The Mouth of the South Jimmy Hart from the WWF?
Lots of minorities and spanish coming into this area. The good times of the poconos are over it seems. It's really starting to look trashy over there. The 60's , 70's and 80's are just a memory. I predicted all this and it's only going to get worse.
wow i live right near there. that place is trashed and its so sad to see it that way. my dad used to work there when i was little. my friends broke into it and trashed it even more
If you listen close enough, you can hear this jingle in the movie "We Own The Night". The scene is when Mark Wahlberg gets shot. Man, did that bring back memories. LOL
this place is out, mr german die,the other kill him self, this family was all mix up, mrs susan was nice but a drunker, susan the daughter nice girl victor papacito lol
they are out of business now there is a cacino there, they loss all the money, nice place i use to work there,
They actually had 4 versions of the MAL ad, w/the activities shown and first line of the jingle changing based on the season ("Have a fling in the spring", "Have a summer of fun", "Have a ball in the fall").
Anyone have the jingle/commercial they played later on in the 80's/90's?
Went sumthin like "All you have to BRING...Is your love of everyTHING.... Beeeuuutiful Mount Aiiiiry Lodge!!" (that song will forever be bunred into my brain lol)
My mom and dad went to the playboy resort for New Years eve 76...i was supposed to be conceived that night...but daddy's boys were not feeling up to par on that particualr evening....so they tried again a few months later and presto here i am today!
we see Tony Bennett & Rodney Dangerfield as some of the "Headline" entertainment. I wonder just how many times stars like this really performed there?
I've seen it on youtube-"at the Nevele, there's so much to do, or don't do a thing, you can do that too, you can have it all, and it's up to you, at the Neveleeeee...". Pretty cool commercial for a lousy little hotel.
This place has been since torn down. I was there in the mid 1990's It was nice back in the 1960's but was really crappy when I was there it closed in 1999
The original jingle was composed, produced and sung by David Lucas in New York.
The last one had a new verse co-written by David Lucas, Bobby Alessi and Dave Immer for Lucas/McFaul Productions, produced by Lucas.
