Thanks for the comment and friendship invitation! ...And yes, the sound comes directly from the 'head' above the needle, although the lower frequencies are projected through a 'hole' near the base of the arm. This turntable uses electricity only to spin the record plate. There is no amplification circuitry and it comes with a crank, in case you're outside the house (dual power source, a quite 'modern' feature for a 40's record player).
your record player is amazing. that is quite a collectors item. i don't know if its worth a lot of money, i just really like it!

Does the sound emanate directly from the diaphram above the needle, or is it routed through the tube to a horn below?
