  • I thought Nue's hair was short.

  • Before you spout "This Saundz liek FLAN'S THEME LOLZZZ!!"

Realize that EVERY. SINGLE. TOUHOU. SONG. share the same core. They ALL have similarities, be it chords, patterns, or notes. You'll here Nue's theme in Flan's, Flan's in Youmu's, Youmu's in Cirno's, Cirno's in Suwako's, Suwako's in Okuu's, Okuu's in Remi's, Remi's in Satori's, ETC.

Now this song just happens to be a little more obvious than the rest? WRONG

If you even Listen to every other song, the similarities are strikingly alike.

  • @XxXFl0oD3RXxX Of course it does. Cuz it's made from the same awesome guy named ZUN.

  • @XxXFl0oD3RXxX I don't care. To be honest, I don't pay attention to their similarities. Never even noticed them. All I noticed as they each embodied their respective characters personalities, level, and the boss fight itself. One man made this, and it really isn't that easy to create a song that would "personify" a character.

  • those 5 people got stabbed by Nue Houjuu and Flandre Scarlet

  • sounds like castlevainia~lost paintings

  • This sounds nothing life flans theme

  • The metal version is absolute compliment to this song's awesomeness: /watch?v=MH2uTrlw8XM

Ad then there's song version: /watch?v=2bFm7P1RqI8

  • Flandre's unnamed twin sister

  • i like this theme, its sorta like flandre's except it has it's own special twist

  • DO A DRUM AND BASS REMIX OF IT!

  • A very nice theme. It changes throughout the song very nicely.

  • mc rolld 5

  • @MrWindowsXPfan get out nao...

  • Well, Nue-san's power is to hide her true form by having people see what they think is there.

But I don't know what I see until I see it, and even then I might sit there clueless until someone spells it out for me.

    So I see....nothing? o.O

  • If I hugged her, would I get stabbed with her trident?

  • @animekirby100 If I can hug her, I don't mind getting stabbed!

  • Something I haven't seen yet that surprises me, this song or a remix of it used for the first boss fight in Breath of Fire 3, which is a Nue. It doesn't take a genius like Eirin to see why it would be, even if only somewhat, fitting.

  • and no one has made a comment about the GREEN SNAKE on her trident?

  • This has to be one of the most epic, and chaotic boss themes I have ever heard. Bravo! Now if only I hadn't seen the Ronald one first...

  • this theme suits ronald more

  • @spiritro06 You know it knda does but.......it fits Nue more because it's her theme :P

  • Is this a GAME? Damn.

  • @Shipoopiism Search touhou wiki on google or other searchers to find out more I don't have time to answer all the details.

  • @Shipoopiism

It's a wonderful STG (ShooTing Game.). Famous for the songs, For the difficulty, for the characters... You can be a fan of the game withouth ever playing a single one. The ammount of fanmade games is incredible, too. But even more incredible, is the ammounts of Remixes of the songs. The characters however, are only girls (IMO, no problem about it.) The only male I've seen is Rinnosuke (From one of the Official mangas!)

Welcome to the wonderful world of Touhou.

  • Is Nue the only character without any accessories on her head?

  • @MnukR Byakuren, Nazrin, Kaguya, Yuka,...

  • @PowerChaos125 Nazrin? Don't you mean Kogasa?

  • How do these people come up with the bosses names and songs?!?! so epic

  • @VeryNiceBoii

These people? Its one guy! A drunk guy at that!

  • Weeell, it's pretty obvious that it sounds a lot like Flandre's Theme. *cough* But it's only that general melody, just like with all the Title Screen Themes. They don't sound like rip-offs either.

The music-style and the feelings emitted are different too. Flandre's got this childishness and plain DANGER and Nue's something mysterious and superior (to me at least).

Yeah... I think both themes are downright beautiful and it just depends on individual musical taste, I suppose.

  • i just played this and nuclear fusion at the same time and they sound ALOT alike tune wise.

  • Has anyone noticed that parts 1:17 and 4:07 are just pure Lunatic Awesomeness :3

  • Either way we can all agree that PCP is WAAAAAAY harder than PCB.

  • @PAVONEZORZ PCP?

  • I don't know why everyone claims that UFO is the hardest in the series, it's the only recent one (Out of MoF, SA, and UFO) that I can consistently get to the final boss without continuing. Sure, the Lunatic mode is without a doubt the most difficult in the series, but...well...that's the point of Lunatic mode! In my opinion, the only game in the series easier than UFO is PCB.

  • @cjn1414118 PCB is easier than UN? and MOF? you gotta be kidding me.

  • @CzMDavid PCB is the easiest in the series for me, Yuyuko was an absolute joke as a final boss. Youmu was way more difficult than Yuyuko, and Youmu isn't even a very difficult stage 5 boss! I have absolutely NO idea what you mean by "UN", and MoF... well, hm... it was on the easy side. But I still find UFO to be easier.

  • @cjn1414118 If you have no idea, how come you wrote MoF (Mountain of Faith) as opposed to my incorrect MOF? :P

Anyway Youmu doesn't by no means qualify to be an easy boss unless you use the misdirection tricks on her non-spells. Yuyuko's cards are mindbending, hard yet fun. Both Kaguya and Eirin (Inperishable Night) have proven to be less of an challenge than Yuyuko and Kanako just seems tad easier too.

And I find ufo very hard mainly becouse of the effin load of items that flood the screen.

  • @CzMDavid Again, I have absolutely NO idea what you mean in that first part.

And anyway, Youmu certainly isn't the EASIEST stage 5 boss (personally I think that award goes to Sanae), but she's definitely the hardest main game boss in PCB. Yuyuko's cards (aside from her survival spell) were an absolute JOKE to anyone who knows what is going on, however, I do agree that Kaguya is easy, but Eirin...well, that one's debatable. I still find Kanako to be about the same as Byakuren, maybe easier.

  • @CzMDavid sorry, but I agree with that, especially MOF (first one I could finish with every character/attack mode in normal)

  • Has anyone noticed 1:18 of the song sounds like 'Bloodlines' from Castlevania: Dracula X?

  • @NikkiYume OMG SO TRUE i never paid attention but now that said it it's so obvious it's just quicker8O(well for someone that played Castlevania with Richter it's obvious :p)

  • U.F. owen was her

  • when I wish upon a star~

  • How can this be a "rip-off" of a song made by the same person.

  • This theme shouldn't be considered bad just because it sounds like something else. One should rather think whether or not he/she thinks it's good. It's like hating tangerines for being ripoffs of oranges.

  • Wow, download her theme

    Get a hard drive failure

    **** you Nue

  • So cute, she's got a superb theme, but she's so hard... ^^"

  • @SarkenHS Nue was actually the first EX boss I ever beat. (With a LOT of practice, mind you.... and a really crappy computer. TH12 was the only thing I had running, and it was still at half framerate.)

  • @Zaephyer For me, the stage was harder than the boss... So i had to do a lot of pratice on the stage, and very less on the boss ( 2-3 try on the boss. 20-30 for the stages u_u ) Well, congrulation for beating her. :p

  • @SarkenHS Unfortunatly, my old computer died not long after that, and my new one... Odd to say, it NEVER lags. Touhou 12 went from not bad to hell for me.

  • @Zaephyer You think? Touhou 12 is hard for me.. ... Hum.. I don't know what else to say.. ^^"

  • I can hear a few resemblances to UN. Owen, but overall, i don't think this is a ripoff at all-

  • @CrimsonMoonM

The only thing it comes close to ripping off of is Castlevania (Richter's theme).

  • I always confuse this with Nuclear Fusion. >_<

  • Hey, i just noticed that the part from 1:19 to somewhere around 1:43 kinda sounded something like Devine Bloodliness, i hope i'm not the only one to notice that XD well... i guess not, i just saw a comment like that.

Yah, so anyway this is one of my fav themes Don't acctualy know why, but i like it =P

  • @yasemin33221 Indeed. They always have to argue about who pairs with who, this meme and that meme and what not, and general fan hate at each other. Just listen to the music and enjoy, like real fans do.

  • 1:29 Divine Bloodlines?

  • @DarkAdonisVyers

Yes, I am not the only person who hears it! Can't go wrong with Castlevania music, so loosely remixing it was a smart move on ZUN's part to create a creepy-sounding theme.

  • @OMGITSBIGFOOT It does matter. If you accuse someone and then tell them to do something impossible. Like look at a description that isn't there. (Which you recently added).

Also I Googled the title, and it just shows links to this video. Or goes to download links. Neither of which answer the question of what it is.

  • @ItohKuni "(Which you recently added)."

I'm sorry, but what? I've had that description there ever since I uploaded this video. Don't go start pulling shit out of your ass. You're either blind, or can't read.

  • @OMGITSBIGFOOT My bad, I made a mistake. However your description still fails to inform the audience whether vid is a game or anime. Which was the center of the original argument, and the first 3 or 4 links on google just link to your vid, which still doesn't answer the question.

  • @ItohKuni I didn't upload this for people who don't know what this is from. It's for people that know what Touhou is. I couldn't care if people don't get any information out of this video at all, it's not intended for them in the first place.

  • @OMGITSBIGFOOT Then don't reply to the comments asking for the info. Or specify that you don't give a darn instead of telling them look at the description or google it.

  • @OMGITSBIGFOOT Then what was the point of telling somebody that the song is from some Anime (Says you a some pages back)

You get somebody hyped up by uploading a song about something, which is Touhou's strongest point, people get into it because of the music, so your supposed to spread the Touhou, not give intentional fallacy. I don't even think I need to make an analogy for this.

  • @saijeehiguchi

    >so your supposed to spread the Touhou

No, I'd rather not. Touhou is bad enough as it is already, it doesn't need even more retarded fans to join this oh so shitty cult of little girls.

  • @OMGITSBIGFOOT Then your just arguing with yourself, because that's kinda the reason why anyone would post anything about anything.

  • @saijeehiguchi Like I said before, I uploaded this video for people that already know about Touhou, not to introduce them into the series. If they can't be bothered to look at the description or find out about the source material it's their fault, not mine.

  • @OMGITSBIGFOOT Yea, but that doesn't justify misleading somebody on purpose. Why bother to reply to somebody if your going to intentionally point them in the wrong direction?

  • @OMGITSBIGFOOT

protip: you can't greentext on YouTube

  • @Tempus90pl You can greentext anywhere, as long as you believe.

  • This theme sounds like something from Castlevania. Which is a good thing, since Castlevania games always have had fantastic music, even since the 8-bit bleep era. In fact, 1:18 sounds almost exactly like Richter's theme, "Divine Bloodlines". ZUN, you take inspiration from great sources!

  • when my Music Teacher wasnt shutting up about me not being able to play a note on my flute i got up and tryed playing this on the piano

lets just say i never had to play that blasted flute again.

  • Dang, man... Some people don't know how to take a joke...

Could I have made it any more obviously a joke? (this right here is sarcasm FYI, communication is a lot funner when people understand rhetorical devices, but ever since text messaging and instant messaging became a hit, nobody learns about rhetoric)

    and

  • OBJECTION! *slams desk*

The video description states the title of the work, but fails to inform the viewer that the title belongs to a game.

  • @saijeehiguchi This comment contains win.

    Rofl.

  • *facerock* It's been answered a million times, but. TOUHOU IS NOT AN ANIME! It's from a really hard shoot-em-up game called Touhou Seirensen ~ Undefined Fantastic Object.

  • is this a anime or a game?

  • It's an anime called Boku no Pico.

  • @OMGITSBIGFOOT thx dude

  • this could be good for a boss battle song

  • umm... you know it IS a boss battle song, right?

  • mc rolled 5 song lol

  • I dont even know what touhou really is, besides some sort of galaga type game but, I love the music x3

  • Indeed

  • When I first saw her on touhou wiki, my face lit up and I thought, "FLANDRE'S COUSIN!" She has a nice theme song, too. But Flandre is still my all-time favorite character, and U.N. Owen was Her? is still my favorite touhou song. :D

  • The Seed of Non-Identification was used for the song, as it's true form is so awesome that one's head explodes if someone listens to it.

  • Comment removed

  • Apparently ZUN has planted a seed of non-identification into this song.

(Did you know? Only in cases in which the affairs inside Gensokyo, he can use ALL abilities of every single character he has made, in this case it's Nue's.)

ZUN and Nue must be laughing at people who say this song as a rip-off of Flandre's or Koishi's, because this kind of claim is far from Nue's true form. Of course ZUN is doing so to protect Nue, a precious daughter of his.

  • Amen to that.

  • @yoslime

    Daughter??? of Jun Ota????

    *Runs to a basement*

  • she's sticking here tounge out lol

  • UFO Wen's Youkai Girl Was Her?

  • If you don't hear a similarity to UN Owen, then you are obviously hard of hearing. Awesome stand alone song regardless though.

  • Comment removed

  • are those things behind her really wings? They're very unusual looking..... they look more like tentacles(just an opinion)

    1:10 - 1:52

    best part in my opinion

  • They're winglike appendages. She has the power to hide her true form, so it's kinda like sending mixed signals to what she actually looks like.

  • I thought they were more like tails XD If you google image what a Nue looks like you`ll have a better idea

  • I did google image Nue. Now I know the french word for naked.

  • Agree.

  • its sorta like UN OWEN.

  • There's also the issue of unusual wings...

  • I don't hear a resemblance to UN Owen here. Anyone with any sort of basic understanding of music theory would most likely agree here. The beat section in the "bridge" if you will is sort of similar, but that's something that's been in a lot of touhou songs. The melodies are COMPLETELY different.

  • this sounds like a mix between UN Owen Was Her and Hartmann's Youkai Girl

  • U.F Owen Was Her?

  • I heard that Nue is older than Remilia and Flandre~

Heian is referring to the Heian period (794 AD to 1185 AD) of Japanese history (traditionally depicted as a Golden Age in Japanese History) and/or to a former capital city of Japan (794 AD to 1868 AD), 平安京 "Heian-Kyo", which is now the city of Kyoto.

    So she has some background...

  • this theme is so cool!

  • Was Nue the one that sent out the UFO's?

  • yes

  • Nue Houjuu, who else?

  • Nue tied with Yuyuko and Sakuya on my list for the Number 2 spot of my favorite Touhou characters

  • Nue > Flandre

  • Did I already post here?

If not, I have to reiterate. This theme blows my mind.

    Kthnxbai

  • indeed it does with the way the theme is put together. BUT it's smoother

and her wings are also weird abstract shapes instead of practical ones, just like Flandres.

So we have the following for super bosses with freaky wings:

Flandre: crystals hanging from dark abstract wing shapes

Shinki: tri wings of what appears to be a hybrid between fairy and bat wings

Nue: tri-wings of red scythes on one side contrasting with blue wavy tails on her other side

  • oh yea

    Cirno: floating ice crystals

  • Lets not forget about the weapon she's carrying, Flandre carried one too remenber? Her clothes are a bit similiar too (but i guess they are smiliar to many others like aya's or medicine's etc etc.)

Almost everyone in UFO had similiar designs to older characters, but i still love them all x3.

  • if you want to go that far then compare rumia to flandre, they both wear a dress that is nothing more than a palette swap for most of the characters, both have red eyes, blond hair and a red ribbon tied to the side of their hair. of course flandre has a few extras: a hat, crazy wings, snake-like spear thing... and im actually better at finding differences than similarities.

  • @neko3Noskire if youtube doesn't recognize this comment as a reply.

Not to mention that Flandre's stage, enemy-wise, is similar to Rumias (although much more difficult, of course), and they both reference And Then There Were None. (Rumia in Marisa's Scenario & Flandre's theme).

  • No use, since most people only know about the mainstream characters.

  • I do believe this is some good ZETTAI RYOUIKI we have here.

Think we should enjoy it together instead of whining about how the music sounds like ________,

  • Many people are saying this theme resemble this or that

Well I have an explanation ~

Nue's power is to hide her true form, and you can see what you perceive.

If you think it is Flandre then it is Flandre,

if you think it is Koishi then it is Koishi,

if you think it is _____ then it is _____.

(you can fill in the blanks ~)

  • Ionescel: Very true. By the way, to me, the beginning sounds A LOT like beginning of Team Rocket's hideout theme from Pokémon Red/Green/Blue/Yellow/FireRed/LeafGreen.

And guess what? After realising this and searching for that theme, first thing that came up was ?v=Fzv5tzOrmmc (not that theme) And now compare Team Rocket female's clothes to Nue's... O_O

  • Rocket Hideout ~ That is a good reminder ~!!

The theme openings are so strikingly similar ~!!

  • You cannot grasp the true form of Nue.

(Yes, it sounds like Giygas from Earthbound)

  • you know, pointing out the reference ruins it for fans.

  • The bass at the beginning is utter <3.

  • Agreed.

  • Looks like Hartmann's Youkai Girl needs to have a chat with Freud and themeenvy.

It makes perfect sense once you think about it. A nue is essentially a Japanese chimera. It's a hodgepodge of other creatures. Nue's theme is a hodgepodge of other themes.

  • If this is the product of Zun getting drunk, he needs to get drunk more than usual.

  • ZUN should have Suika as a drinking buddy.

  • Agreed.

  • I love this theme. I actually don't think it sounds quite as Frankentheme-ish as Suwako's "Native Faith" did.

The structure is a little like Hartmann's Youkai Girl, though.

  • This shits on U.N. Owen from high above.

  • This makes U.N. Owen look like 8-bit.

  • Judging from the music room comments, ZUN completely improvised this one in a single setting. This has to be the epitome of drunk composing.

  • I can tell this is composed in little to no time at all. There are so much dissonance is makes my ears hurt.

Don't get me wrong, I love Zun's music. I just can't stand the terrible amount of misplaced notes and chords in this song.

  • I do believe that would be the point, considering nue's abilities and personality.

  • Nah, if I know how guys like ZUN are, then he's only just starting to scrape the tip of the iceberg.

  • Heian Alien sounds like a bunch of other themes meshed together with the most obvious being UN owen. Fitting, considering a Nue could be best compared to a Chimera.

  • If U.N. Owen and Hartmann's Youkai Girl had a song for a child, this would probably be what it sounds like.

The rhythms and the patterns remind me a little of both.

  • I see what everyone is saying about the similarities but I like it. I can even hear a little bit of IN's stage 1 theme in there. Flandre's all-around insanity feels as such in her theme, but this one feels very precise, calculated and "in control", and I know nothing of this character other than what I've read in these posts since I didn't know the game was released yet until less than an hour ago

  • Short description: Shapechanger that likes to scare people, living of fear, planted the seeds of unknown shape, UFOs.

Also she's in the sinister group of extra boss music, like TH7, 8 and 10 being madly melodic (long appregios) while TH6, 11 and 12 are pretty much in this sense. Very often there are heard similarities in style of music on the different stages.

  • Indeed, it does sound like an outlandish and disharmonious U.N. Owen.

Now, don't get me wrong here, but, to me, it feels a bit out of place for a Touhou theme, something which is happening with other themes too in UFO. It feels more... techno. I don't know why is that, ZUN may have bought new synthesizers, but, looking back to, say U.N. Owen or Necro-Fantasy, you notice a huge difference. I hope this turns out to be for the better.

How much our happy, little series can evolve, huh?

  • Being honest Heian Alien and Universal Fire were really the only UFO themes I liked; I do really agree that his music is changing a good bit and I'm not all too sure what I'm thinking about it.

But I won't complain; I love this song alot, so in the end, despite my worries, ZUN managed to impress me again.

  • I like how he's changing his music style a bit for each game he releases. In my opinion, keeping the same style for every game would become a bit boring.

  • I'm not even so much saying I don't support him trying out new stuff with his music, as I am that I didn't like the most the tracks in UFO. XD

There were atleast four that I liked alot, that four including this one. The rest were just... kind of there.

  • @kepaware True yet he keeps certain trademarks in them so one can recognice them as his.

  • I really like this character....

As for being a Flan clone, based on the design, ZUN actually aimed for Nue to seem sinister...

Flan's only depicted as crazy by the fans.

  • "She's kind of nuts and isn't usually allowed out of the cellar"

"Although she is usually docile, her insanity makes it difficult for others to understand her."

    From her EoSD profile.

  • There is a kind of werewolf already, if you count momiji...

  • @KiraXVII:

Momiji's more of a Wolf Tengu.

There's also a Were-hakutaku as Keine, who transforms at full moons.

  • 1:08 Reminds me of Union from Black Eyed Peas lol

  • Flandre has a new friend :3!

but is it me or does it seem that Nue will boss Flandre around if they have met eachother : <?

  • Comment removed

  • Compare the 0:12-0:30 part of this song, with the

    0:23-0:28 part of Flandre`s theme

  • I just posted this to make a point, that I think in my opinion ZUN remixed some of Flan`s theme into hers

Doesn`t mean that he was lazy and just took "UN Owen was her?" and made it Nue`s theme though XD

  • It's not totally unlikely he did. He often reuses small music bytes - you can hear a couple other tunes during the quiet piano bit, for instance... and the song progression and accompaniment for Hiziri Byakuren's theme are also similar to Suwa Foughten Field.

But it's still damn good music.

  • My first reaction when I saw her little sprite appear on the screen was: "Oh shi-! A devil-loli!"

And honestly, I wasn't that far off.

  • Very very creepy theme. It sounds more evil than any other Extra Stage boss theme I've heard. I don't see this song having any resemblance with U.N. Owen was her? at all, in my opinion.
