I make plain hot air popped popcorn for my birds with no butter, salt or anything and they LOVE it just like him. Sometimes I roll it in a tiny bit of natural peanut butter and then a little seed....I try to make a lot of my own things to make big batches cause I have so many feathered kids.....lol
Don't you just love it when strangers tell you how to raise your bird? lol
The kids and I have enjoyed watching MJ, what a riot. I've trained many dogs, but never a bird. Is it a similar process?
We, too, often cover our little bird's cage at night; he actually likes it, AND he is an "only bird" and doesn't have a chance to get lonely around here. Having hand raised him from a naked orphaned nestling, we're all he knows. MJ looks perfectly content without the company of another bird.
i just love your video's you such a good birdmom to MJ. I also like that your bird seems to love all kinds of food mine doesn't he's a timneh african grey and hates all kinds of food =\ i also feed him supreme but not the fruit blend and i feed '''eco bird'' pellets and of course lots of fruits, berries, nuts =)
He goes 'ooOOooo!' when he sees something new , asks for a shower, says phone number, counts to ten (i am training him to count objects and colours , hes smart!)
he poos before i pick him up, he greets us when we come in, shakes hands , waves, gives 5, i put him on his back then hang him by his tail
He talks ALOT, loves cashews and walnuts.
MJ's food has ALOT of colouring in it and the yoghurt (non dairy or not )probably isnt good for him, & dried mango is pure sugar.
That's a good point about the yogurt treats. I don't give him many, but maybe I should stop buying them. Is the food coloring that bad? I can get the same kind without coloring, but Idk how MJ would react to that, lol. He likes eating his food by color (all the red, then all the orange, then all the purple, etc, lol.)
What a polite bird! Great table manners1 Your parrot eats healthier food than us dumb humans! Come on over to my place and FEED ME! No wonder he doesn't want to leave home! Big cage, clean water, clean newspaper....lots of toys and lots of love... what could go wrong?
He doesn't really *need* a cover, I guess, but it helps him get a better night sleep, I think. It's dark so it blocks out light and he can't see through it, so he won't get scared if we get up for a midnight snack or something. Sometimes he pulls it off, after we cover him for the night, but usually once it's on, he'll go to sleep. He asks for it, actually, he says, "Want to go night" and that's when we put the cover on his cage. ;)
I own an African Grey too. He likes having his cage covered for privacy- this is when he preens and takes his bath. They are very territorital, love their cage and are most comfortable in their homes.
Funny thing..my Grey just wont have it..he always makes a fuss when it's time to go in his cage..probabley because I always have him out. He wants to be in what ever part of the house i'm in and if he had his way he'd sleep in my bed too! We are very attatched no doubt..But to have his cage covered no way..he would not have it. :) Hope this isn't a bad thing..He still sleeps sound.
oh and he makes such a fuss if I don't bring him in the shower with me. Maybe he's a little to spoiled but he loves it..we sing in the shower together. :) I posted a few videos of my grey..if you would like to me the love of my life..my grey..Chopper
Yes, but he doesn't like being out very often. Watch my new video, MJ Exploring. I let him walk around like that every so often. But he can't wait to get home! I let him crawl on the outside of his cage and sit on his door much more often.
I thought I wasnt subscribed to you..so I looked and I was. I just havent heard anything in a few weeks. So I came back to visit you and MJ. :) Missed you both.
Hi Kristy. I've fallen in love with MJ! I have a Timneh (and a cockatiel, a linnie and two Java rice finches -- those are just the birds!). I have shown my TAG Willow all of MJ's videos and she gets very excited hearing him. I noticed so many similarities in how we speak to our little feathered ones. You are such an amazing bird mom - I can see how much MJ loves you. Thanks so much for sharing your videos.
Hi there! Hehe, yep, birds are like potato chips - can't have just one. I'm glad Willow likes hearing MJ's vids. Thanks for saying I'm a good bird mom! I bet you are, too! They're our little "fids," aren't they? Hehe.
I leave MJ's food and water in there all day. I give him some more food between lunch and dinner time. He gets treats throughout the day. At night, I take his food bowl out. But I always leave the water in there. Hope this helps!
i noticed that you dont always leave food in there for him, you feed him at certain times of the day like breakfast and dinner. I have a 4month old CAG that i just got home about 2 weeks ago, and I leave seeds/pellets/beans/corn/water in there all day for him to eat when he is healthy. My question is , am I suppost to leave the food in there all day so he can eat when he wants cuz hes a baby or not. And if so when do i switch over to structured breakfast/lunch/dinner times.
It is amazing that once there is a schedule, it is clock work for them. Exactly the time, they will call us to feed them. My CAG is the same. At 6:30, he will wake me up. What's worst, my CAG MUST have fresh fruit. If grapes that are few days old, he refuses to touch them. Our birds are spoiled. LOL
I love you videos, but Im not getting them to look very clear?

A single bird in a cage is always a depressing sight. At least they should be kept as a pair and have the possibility to fly around.

He's a very well-adjusted and well-cared for bird, and VERY smart! I love him!

you put a kind of curtain over his cage at night? i have a lovebird if you do is it good? do they like that?

just wondering if he has more toys than what's in his cage? Or if you just don't put them in his cage at night:
brooknrich 3 years ago
Yeah, I rotate his toys. This was probably right before I put a new one or two in there. He usually has more.

There should be food left for them to graze during the day. They should also have fresh food...not just junk food (seed nutraberries etc)
