I'm a Jazz fan from Brazil but I always loved to see John Starks on the court. His heart, passion and strenght inspires everyone who saw him play the game. Good times when they broadcast NBA on NBC here. Respect.
He felt like they had the team in 1993 and didn't know why they didn't get it done? I know why. His name is CHARLES SMITH! That fucking soft ass, marshmellow had no business playing for the tough, physical, defensive minded Knicks.
Smith SUCKED! Completely fucked up Game 5, and allowed Pippen to have a HUGE series.
In 1992 X completely dominated Pippen. Had The Knicks kept X in 1993, I swear they would've beaten Chicago, and most likely, Phoenix. Charles Smith and Greg Anthony SUCKED!
@Kristianvid My words Exactly!, They should retired that Jersey, Knicks org could be so Ungrateful ! I saw the pistons and Knicks today, Just to see Shawn williams with the Number 3 again!!! Didn't the knicks learn their lesson with Marbury ? Damn, no one should where that Jersey, retire it already. I'm just baffled already with this organization .
I'm a die hard Bulls fan but i gotta say those 1992 and 1993 playoffs versus the Knicks scared me to death because of Starks. I know MJ describe Dumars as his toughest guy to ever guard him but Starks to me was the real deal. If you're talking about Jordan stopper, his name come first to my mind. He got the skills and the mind set to be that guy. Thank God MJ got the edge but i really respect Starks.
Dude, shut up with your nonsense. John Starks is a Knick LEGEND. Without him the Knicks wouldn't have gotten past the Bulls that year. Shut up already, I love LJ, H20 and Spree but Starks is also one of the greatest Knicks to ever play the game. Show some respect like REAL Knicks fan kid.
@ChrisnSnoop Awesome comment! I definitely agree. Regardless of what the naysayers and his critics may say, I LOVE John Starks, he will always be one of my favorite players who gave 100% each time he stepped on the court and someone who was always smiling even after tough losses. The standing ovation he got when he returned to the Garden in 1999 pretty much said it all. He most definitely got the HEART of a CHAMPION and was freakin... awesome!!!
i just watched all three of these videos and i realize how down the nba went since the 90's, theres no more players like bird, starks, and jordan, with the heart they had. Thats what gets you to championships. i watched these because i go his autograph for christmas, im glad i have it. and yes marbury should burn his jersey.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing, I'm from England and use to watch NBA alot back then but after awhile I got back to watching it again and can't stand the players anymore all of them are annoying.
I was a child growing up New York during this era so I clearly agree.
It's funny how the NBA has recruited more worldwide talent since the 1990s, and yet that era (Jordan, Magic, Bird, Barkley, Ewing, Olajuwon, early Shaq) remains more memorable even to many outside NY and the US at large.
And the NBA on NBC marketing and programming was simply amazing.
I couldn't agree more. His whole career was a great story, and it truly killed me when he was traded away. I still get mad when I see people with #3 jerseys with Marbury on the back. I say "That's John Stark's number."
Wat! every Knick player needs to watch these types clips of Starks before dey put on a Knick Jersey, especially when playin at MSG--dis man went from baggin groceries to brining it to Michael Jordan--come on, Starks was the spirit of the Knicks, aggressive, passionate, irrational at times but we loved it, he lived for us on the court, much appreciation, Starks is DaSpiritOfDaRealKnicks, much respect
Hakeem had luck in 94 with his fingertips hahaha. The Knicks just suck today cause all those youngsters play like a girl.Fuck that, what happend with those times of Willis Reed,Earl Monroe and Walt Frazier.and Ewing,Starks and Oakley.those players we're serious and played real basketball.2-18 i don't care, your still great Starks.retire #3(Knicks,get some serious players and get a championship cause the last on was in 1973)
man u talkin about all the knicks best ballers & u 4get bernard king how can u 4get king hes da best scorer the knicks ever had only knick 2 get 60 he did that on christmas day in da garden & u must remember that series against detroit wen King averaged 44 or 45 for the series back2back 50 point games his game winner wit a sprained wrist and droppin 50 wit dislocated fingers hes ma fav knick player of alltime bernard king ''the real king'' with earl the pearl monroe
Being from Illinois, its disheartening to see him get down and kiss the floor of MSG, Jordan doing the same to the floor at the Chicago Stadium makes it seem like a copycat. Yeah this piece is good, from 1992 to 1996, he was the best player on that team not named Patrick Ewing.
i still cant not belive why did john starks jersey was not retired for the knick along with charles oakley jersey, i mean best knick players with ewing in the 90's and of this knick era
thats real shit, wish the knicks had that heart like they used to, isiah done fucked that team up lol and plus they never shoulda traded patrick at the end, that killed the team for years to come....
Totally agree man. The Knicks (and the whole league, for that matter) need to play with more heart and less B.S. Get the Knicks Complete History on DVD, it's great to go back and watch the old playoff games...so many great memories!
you obviously dont know much about this cat as far as the knicks go making a statement like that "spydaman", dude was one of the main pieces in their success at the time...
no they werent your right, no one was, the knicks of that era where just tough, they used to fuck people up, lol, cant count how many scraps that team got into haha the bad news bears of basketball..
he was my favorite player when i started watching bball. Its unfair that hes being remembered because of his last game against rockets in the finals.. When he's been great for years in the knicks.
Marbury is the most overrated player in the history of the game! When's the last time Steph won a playoff sieries? When's the last time Steph didn't destroy a teams chemistry?
His #3 should be hanging in the rafters right next to Patrick, Oakleys #34 also. They gave thier heart and soul, blood sweat and tears. Starks and Oakley numbers deserve to be retired!!
Starks will forever be one of the most loved Knicks.
