@pf126p I know I am replying to an old post, but I'll take my chances anyway: Red/brown is the genetically dominant fur color in dachshunds, so while 2 black dachshunds can never have red puppies, 2 red dachshund parents can have black puppies as long as they both pass on the recessive black fur gene to the offspring. These puppies had a father with a red/brown coat of fur, but carry the recessive black gene from their mother. So if they later reproduce, they could theoretically have black pups.
