actually there is a pretty strong message here that infinity ward smartly planned. first they stir you up by making you rescue that pilot. just when you start to feel courageous, amped up, they kill you unhesitantly by showing you dying desolated so that the shock you feel will be multiplied.

it's a direct signal to the brain: in war, no matter how "heroic" you act, you can just be killed off at any moment and written in small fonts among others.

I just checked Google earth. This appears to be the city of Ahvaz in Iran. it's the capital of the Iranian province of Khūzestān. It is built on the banks of the Karun River.

Looking at the map that appears after the level, the bomb seems to have gone off around Basrah, near the Iraq-Iran border.

The story is difficult to follow. Al-Asad assassinates some guy and then something about ultra-nationalists and then the nuclear thing and then you go back in time.

i remember when i first played this game and saw that. it was really scary cause it's such a reality, it could really happen. and i was so caught up in it that i actually felt like i was dying.

and it didn't help when my adoptive dad was like your dying.. lol he ruined the moment after that. :(

@Benjifritz93 not really, that was likely a diry bomb, nast fallout but not so nasty explosion, and the helicopter was in the air outside the blast radious so it was taken out by air gust. had it been within the blast it would had been consumed by flames.

I think those sounds are taking place in his mind, not in the environment.
