why don't they make more films like this now? everyone lost all their patience, its like there needs to be at least 2 large explosions for it to be a decent film
"Here, take a look at this in the room over here. (Opens door) That's a Soviet T-34 tank, best tank in World War 2. When the German tanks first went up against it in October 1941, they got blown right off the battlefield by them. Easy to operate, mechanically reliable, angled armor to help deflect tank shells, and a 76 millimeter gun. That will go through anything in its path. Yeah that's a great tank, look at that."
The irony of this whole scene is the fact that Travis is buying all these guns to "cleanse the filth" by buying them from guy who sells illegal guns, drugs, & stolen cars. If he really wanted to do good, he should have killed this jackass...
@mrallpurpose you can dry fire a centerfire firearm all day, you should not ever dry fire a rimfire firearm at all. Where did you get your gunsmithing training at?? Ask a competent gunsmith and they will tell you this
love the prices on the guns...wish they were still the same today.
When the dealer starts offering DeNiro drugs after he agrees to take the weapons LMFAO. I would just take the money and get as far away from the guy as I could...but this guy wants to sell him METH for kicks...Awesome movie.
Travis buys illegal from from drug dealing filth ...in order to rid the the streets of filth. How ironic...maybe he should have started by waxing this mope.
Everybody is discussing the gun information errors. I'm sure Scorsese caught it, but what does it matter? He probably put it in the mistakes on purpose to bring a hint of human imperfection to characters like he does. like shady ass drug/gun dealing guys like this are weapon glossaries.
the salesman obviously doesn't recognise the guns he's selling he sells Travis a Smith and Wesson escort but calls it a colt .25 and a Astra Constable which he calls a Walther and that is was made to replace the walther P-38 where in reality the Germans used the P-38 till the end of the war and the walter PP series was manufactured in 1935 still one of the best movies ever
WHERE would Travis carry that?? Besides he's not foolish enough to draw that much attention to him by buying military assault rifles. Also in close combat there's really no need for some "clumsy" assault rifle. He's not going to fight a guerilla war in a forest.
The Walther .380 Easy Andy shows Travis is actually an Astra Constable...looks a lot like a PPK, but the slide release on frame gives it away (along with the Astra logo on the slide). Not to put down the Constable, but seems they could have gotten a Walther from the prop man for this scene if they were going to mention that pistol...
Why didn't he bring the Cadillac (and pink slip) up to the room? Maybe Travis would have bought it on impulse. He had the cash. He was taking in 300, 400 dollars a week (sometimes more when he did it off the meter). He sure as hell didn't spend it on a luxury apartment or food.
It's obvious he wasn't looking for anything like a Cadillac. He bought these guns for practical purposes only, to do one job. The way that he lived in that shitty apartment makes that obvious.
"Little Stevie" Prince (Easy Andy) was the real thing. Scorcese's then-gf Sandy Weintraub knew him from LA, he was on the fringes of the movie industry doing various "jobs" for her studio exec father. A junkie "with black circles under his eyes down to his elbows", he got the part because he could supply his own guns. Scorcese was in the paranoid stages of coke addiction and Stevie became like his doorkeeper/bodyguard.
scorsese used such a creative camera work on this film, it was totally unique for the camera men at this time, like you see when travis aim with the gun at 2:21

If this scene was shot in 2011, Travis would be buying a .50 Desert Eagle, .40 Glock, Beretta 9mm, & a Ruger LCP. My how gun choices have changed.
