I was hoping he would speak more about his article, literary aspirations, travels and memorable Kenyan memories. To speak for instance about 'travels in Kenya's Eastern province' is still vague. Is it a geographic East or ideological east? What constitutes a 'decent primary school' or an efficacious education? What ideas are disseminated and shared in rustic Kenya?

Binyavanga, I heard you on NPR today and am eager to read ONE DAY. I found KWANI, Wambui Mwangi's YouTube of winners, & Mehul Gohil's "Farah Aideed" which I sebt to my Hockaday students to read w/ your Granta piece in their creative writing class. A Bard prof taught a workshop to the Eng Dept several years ago. Enjoy the journey. You're on the "write" track. re: this YouTube, you realize the US has the same NGO problem in the states as Africa. I lived in Viet-Nam 68-70 and USAID was similar.
