Wow, had one of these as a kid (late 90's), but had no idea the true value of this synth (was too fascinated with the Korg Trinity & Roland XP-80), so I traded it for a microphone stand & epiphone mini bass amp... kicking myself
Hey kudos to you for showing what that synth can do. Good ol American engineering. I have been using ESQ-1, VFX and SQ-80s for almost all my recordings. I use them for ambient pads and leads. If you want to hear some SQ-80 check out my release The Mystic and the Machine on the CD baby website under Alpha Wave Movement. I think these are the MOST user friendly synths ever made NOTHING comes close and for the most part they were reliable even my VFX-SD!
I got mine in exchange for a crappy drum machine. Met the guy in a parking lot where he had wheeled it out in a shopping cart. Best shady craigslist deal EVER. You need to check out the weird amplitude modulation for insane wacked out gurgling FX! Butchy has some great info on this board!
I will teach you to fish. Google "buchty sq80 ensoniq" together. Youtube blocks links in comments..Go to that site. He has a PDF of the SQ80 manual for download that has sequencer as well as programming info. If you are comfortable with linux you can download many sounds that are awesome as well. That site is the best SQ80 page in existence that I know of.
I still got mine too! it still ROCKS! The ESQ1 rocks too and if you link them together with the same sound banks you can get like 16 note polyphony!

The only reason I have this synth is FOR the pianos.... pure 80's/90's house... nice and plastic sounding.... great for pads too...

I just bought a sq 80 off a friend of mine who had it for years. Great machine. Hey I was wondering can you explain how the sequencer works?
