These outhandled the Corvette at that time, which really angered the Corvette guys at Chevy. The Firebird team really had it together, and that's a big reason why these cars command such a following (and big money) today. Power, handling, comfort and style -- they had it all in spades!!
the color, english green is not good it needs a white body paint with the dark blue cental strip and the Firebird on the bonnet. Green looks lame. Nice condition.
@ThisWillLeaveaMark They were'nt weak homie, great torque, which is needed to accelerate a street car is made at low and moderate rpm,s . Here's a test for your brain to ponder: put a 900 hp F1 motor in a 3700lb car and see how it drives around town... light to light NOT on a track. The 900 hp would only come to bear at rediculous rpm's. The lack of useable torque would render it useless. No exotic valvetrain/ top-end is necessary. MD
@crustybob If you know anything about a '73 SD it was rated at 310HP. But in reality it was more like 390hp. Hot Rod magazine ran a 13.54 @ 106 mph back in '73 with crappy exhaust and not so great tires. But what do you expect from a low compression (8.4) 455 with a cam that only had a 408 lift? All the high HP cars these days are either turbo/supercharged or have around 10.5 to 11.1 compression. I wonder if the new GT mustang would run like it was only 8.4 comp?
awesome and clean wheels.i like it as all muscle cars of that era and before. they used to "create" cars, inside out, there was a passion in them, nowadays they make a computer to make cars,no matter how precise computer "may" be,it's not as good as it used to be.i give you an example: would you marry a robot? (nobody misunderstands me)
but the 2002 will be a much more comfortable car, better handline, better gas mileage, higher top end speed, better brakes just better in everything except it doesn't have the fine lines and style of the 1970-1973.
LUCY-1972 455 HO. Orange (455 sd colours & interior spec.). 2009, tremec 5 speed, Lsd, uprated suspension, full roll cage. Certificated 750 Bhp/ 900 flbs torque. see my home page. NOT FOR SALE. My special baby, allthough I really want a B.B. hemi.
These cars are built to be driven and to beat the daylights out of them.... if not whats whats the point ? if it's built and driven the right way it will handle handle the beatings.
Beautiful car... from back in the day when GM wasn't owned by communists.

@sideskraft Back when Pontiac execs had backbone. They were finally beaten into conformity - a decision which ultimately killed the brand.

@microminiskirt Style is just as important as performance to a lot of people. And who gives a shit about comfort anyway?

And to think that the last Trans-Am in 2002 will clean the clock off of one of these classics.
